    Same here. I don't make tapers so can't be sure but my understanding is that tapers are made by dipping a wick in wax then repeating the process until the layers build up to the thickness you require. There won't be any air pockets so no need for relief holes. Hope that helps.

    This one is scented vanilla latte. Feel that I'm starting to get the hang of these swirl pillars, also I'm addicted to Donita's crackle finish.

    A client asked for a red candle with yellow chunks and this is the result. :embarasse Think that it'll make a nice orange candle when it's melted down. LOL

    I was really pleased with the way this one turned out seeing as the first one I tried ended up with the outside all peeling away. Still need to work on my swishing around the mould but practice makes perfect ... maybe.

    Okay, what's the secret - how do you manage to get your candle bottoms flat? I've done the old "put the candle on a baking tray and rub" trick but all that seems to happen is that it just gets shorter (and shorter) but is still wobbly and then the wick ends up sticking up in the middle. Surely there must be a fool-proof way and I need it.

    Thanks for the tip. I did a 3rd burn and it turned out the same as the 2nd so I guess that the 1st was just an anomoly. Rats! I was hoping for an easy answer (not that this isn't easy, just more time consuming). Still, who've ever get into candle making if time was an issue. LOL

    Wish I had, but no I subtracted the 2nd amount from the reduced amount. The only difference I can think of is that the 1st burn was in a heated room at night while the 2nd was in an unheated room with the window open during the day (even though it wasn't drafty). I'll replicate conditions 1 again tonight and see how it goes. Thanks

    Maybe it's the wax you're using. The only time I don't need to poke relief holes is with chunk candles, all my others just slurp away around the wick as they cool.

    Hello, Has this happened to anyone else? I did a test burn on a candle and it burned 10g in 2.5 hours, then the next day I burned it for another 2.5 hours but this time it burned almost 20g. What could the cause be and how do I know what the real burn rate is?

    Help, I'm confused. How can you weigh FO on a scale? I thought that liquids are measured in mls or fluid ounces not weight ounces - will someone please explain!

    Hi, In a couple of threads about other things 2 people mentioned how much they hate stirring Vanilla FO. Why is that? Does it have to be stirred for a particularly long time? Does it need other additives to make it bind to the wax? I use straight paraffin and love the scent of vanilla so would appreciate your thoughts before I get started.
