  1. Sabrina, beautiful as always - love the green and white combo.
  2. Looks scrumptious - great job, and welcome to the pillar addiction.
  3. Wow, thanks for all the great feedback. I am pretty chuffed with them myself and feel that they are my most professional work to date. Now, if only I could master rustics, soy wax, hot and cold throw ... . Hey, hey the work continues.
  4. I just adore everything you make including these. I think that the shiny finish with the rustic texture looks brilliant and the colours you chose are beautiful. Poor cousin or not, IMO your work is first rate. :highfive:
  5. Just thought that I'd share some candles I made for the Spring Equinox - colours are green and yellow. Scented Rainforest, Honey and Sandalwood. They started out rustic but dramatically improved in appearance when I applied the truly magical crackle finish - hooray for Donita!
  6. Tucker, those are absolutely stunning so not sure why you think that you are having trouble with rustics. I'd love that kind of trouble (tee hee)! Your candles rock - keep pouring.
  7. I'm using a zinc wick - 44-24-18Z with straight paraffin and 5% peppermint fo. I added stearine to one votive to see if that increased burn time but it has made no difference. I've also got some LX10 wicks to test. HTH
  8. I'm not sure how to ask this without sounding daft, so at the risk of being considered dopey :rolleyes2 here goes ... at what stage do you stop burning votives? I'm trying for the miracle 16 hours but find that when the wax is all liquid it starts smoking up the glass even though it's still got plenty of burn left. Am I meant to chuck out the remaining wax or is it okay, albeit messy, to keep burning?
  9. Hi Andy, I've just been checking out Peak's website and they have a square with angled corners in the Other Polygon section of their Moulds. Here's the link: http://www.peakcandle.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PCMS&Category_Code=MLD-POL HTH. Maureen
  10. I really like the look of that - the red bleeding through works brilliantly - must give it a try myself.
  11. Hi, sounds like you've got it sorted but here's a link to the instructions I use for making ice candles. http://members.iinet.net.au/%7Ecampbell1/projects.htm#ICE Have fun. Maureen
  12. That looks gorgeous - congratulations on your first pillar creation.
  13. Hey, hey - I like it. Good job, as always.
  14. I cannot imagine how frightening it must be to know that a force like Rita is heading your way. Please, please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. My thoughts and love go with you. God bless.
  15. They look awesome - keep on getting distracted, the results are great. But maybe you could find a better distraction than cooking - I quite like the tequila idea. LOL.
  16. They look fabulous - great mottle. Ditto what everyone has said about poking relief holes and not pouring higher than previous pour. I also like the "border" effect so you could always make it your personal trade mark.
  17. E, your work is beautiful, as always.
  18. Looking forward to seeing the real colour. Are they all green or did you do some in pink as well?
  19. Julia, I LOVE them - the colours look fabulous. Did you use similar sized chunks and what ratio of red to orange to overpour? Sorry for all the questions but when I see something I really like I want to know how to do it too (unless it's a secret of course). LOL
  20. Donita, you are a genius! They look totally stunning (and as it just so happens, I have to make 4 green and yellow candles today so guess who's ideas I'm gonna steal - ah hah!) I'm going to be in big trouble if the candle police ever find out where I live. Mind you, nobody would ever recognise my candles as being even remotely like yours no matter how hard I try so I guess I'm safe.
  21. Great job. It's hard to imagine that they could ever have looked less than perfect (but I know better being a huge crackle fan). LOL
  22. They look fabulous. I want a pyramid mould.
  23. Stacy, they look really appealing. Do you think that we could see one unwrapped - I'm interested in what colours you choose. Thanks.
  24. Hi Andrea, make sure that your previous layer is still a bit soft before you pour your next. If it is looking like you left it a bit too long you can also poke relief holes just before the next pour to improve adherence. Finally, poking relief holes through all layers when doing your final repour will also assist. The longer you leave it between pours the more defined the colours will be, while if you pour the next layer while the previous is still pretty sloshy (technical term there) you'll get a sort of run-on effect - just depends what you're aiming for. Can't help you with translucency issue except to say that stearine increases opacity so is best to be avoided.
