  1. I've got a couple of ov' gloves one with the rubber on it the other without. It's nice for getting the cookie sheet out of the oven, wiping out the presto pot, and if heaven forbid you need to move a hot mold
  2. Okay i know this is a stupid question, but.... Is the reason a votive has a stronger throw on a warmer then with a flame because of the amount of melted wax? Yeah i know like i said stupid question.
  3. I'm test buring one of those same 17 oz bulb jars and it's got some flicker, but nothing that's going to do any harm. I trimmed the wick down before i let it, and then afain after i relit it. It does have a nice melt pool, but otherwise it's just fine. But also haven't gotten it down far yet, only been burning for 3 hours.
  4. I was making a 3# batch had used 3oz from the bottle(16oz) weighting the bottle there's roughly 8oz left in it. I'm thinking the batch is lost, I added 5 more pounds of wax this morning and it's not sweating like a stuffed pig anymore, but it's still sweating, sadly i can't put anymore wax into the presto pot, i'm thinking i'm going to call that batch a lost cause. :embarasse
  5. Got another one Don't put your FO bottle on the shelf above your pot without a lid screwed on. I just knocked it off and ruined the batch to much FO i know it Suggestions for saving the batch? I poured it into a big pan and let it cool now it's sweating like a stuck pig in july.
  6. Okay so an update. I've taken some more candles into my tester including one of my 4x6 pillers of the candles that i've used vybar in, and after 2 hours the 4x6 had a nice smell to the room wasn't over powering, but it smelled wonderful. She tested a few more of the votives this time in a smaller room, and the throw was better then when she first tested a few of the others. both of the testers votives (with and Without vybar) gave out to her the same throw, the amount of scent from the candle must mach the size of the room Her deduction to my not getting the throw i want is candlenose
  7. Thanks for the links i'll take a look at them tonight when i get home. It's the neverending quest for the 4 inch chime candles, I'm having a feeling i'm going to be going to a place like where Doc works :undecided
  8. does anyone know how hard it is to make a silicone mold?
  9. sounds like a plan i like that idea....I'm going to check out a couple of silicon molds, so take yout time
  10. I think i can see it, let's see if i can explain it a bit better The center would be the cups that would lock onto the bottom on the bottom would be the base of a votive with a small nub in the center of each cup location for a wick pin the top would be a lid that will line itself with the cups of the center, and put the wick pins in from the top so that there are no indentions on the bottom because of a wick pin. Is that about right? since you can make things, think you can make me a 4 inch chime candle mold like this? 4 inches tall 1/2 inch diameter. would love it to have 12 to 24 holes. I tried to make one and ended up with a useless pile of metal. http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-Primitive-Tin-6-Tube-Taper-Candle-Mold-With-Handle_W0QQitemZ270186164900QQihZ017QQcategoryZ1217QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This is what i'm trying to make http://www.azuregreen.com/index.html?stocknumber=C4CG
  11. okay so i didn't think that one through far enough  well Doc did say no vacum problem does that mean flip it over and they all fall out? If that's the case then permenant pin works for me.
  12. Sounds good to me except for the built-in wick pins, a suggestion to that would be a hole in the bottom you thread the cup on with a permenant seal when resting at the bottom. This will allow the cup to be taken out for cleaning, ease of removal of the votive from the mold. and not so sharp edges I don't have an issue with getting my votives out of the mold, i use the pin as well, it's the blasted repour and i end up spilling a bit over every time.
  13. okay now i've gotta learn glass etching on top of candle making?
  14. Coffee beans works wonders, I am constantly using the wifes coffee to clear my nose. I also go outside for about 15 minutes or so.... I'm also thinking candle nose is part of my scent issue, i've brought in more test candles for my tester and she can smell them perfectly.
  15. Thanks Pam, i'll give some scents a mix this weekend, I've got a lot of the butter cream frosting left over, and i'll be making some butter cream vanilla for a guy at work who likes the rustic look without the vybar =)
  16. When you ladies make your tilted or layered candles do you use the same scent for the whole candle or at times do you use different scents? I'm thinking of making a rustic 4x6 piller layered with a christmas theme scent...IE christmas cookie, cranberry chutney, and milled cider... I know I know before i make the candle i'll need to test the smells together to mae sure it doesn't become a nasty spell.
  17. That's a bummer on the scents as i've got a bunch of it Thankfully it's a lot of 4 oz bottles. Other then CS and C&S what's a good place for scents?
  18. I got it thank you very much. That's nice, i hate trying to make exel work lol
  19. okay here's a couple of pictures ofr the pumpkin spice, top is with vybar, bottom is without. Sorry it's a bit blurry
  20. I've laid claim to a couple of the wife's old steak knives and i just chip away...I'll also put it on the warmer to soften the wax up some too before i start chipping, spoons do work when it's softer
  21. The 36 wick is for my 4 inch square pillare molds, and my mason and bulb jars that are 4 inches in size. I've been using the 4/0 for my 3x6 pillars and the 2/0 for my 2x6 pillars. I found out today that both wax types support 1.5oz FO pp and 1/4 vybar will take out the molting of the wax. Yeah i called C&S for the FO retention of the wax I'll take some pictures today and share them with you.
  22. Find a guienie pig like i did, I take in several different candles with the 3 different wicks that i have and a form for her to fill out. Okay so maybe i have been taking notes and didn't know it
  23. Candle warmer works for me, that is usually after i dig out the bulk of the wax
