  1. I was recently emailed about sponsoring a pageant. The thing that caught my attention was that they said "no money involved." How do you sponsor something with no money involved? I emailed back figuring what the heck and asked for more information. I was then emailed back and given a website address which I visited. Seemed too good to be true but there is no money involved they just want a donation to go into the contestants gift bags. In return they are offering free adverstising for me via their website linked to mine, business cards that the winner will hand out, free pageant admission, a half page ad in the program (6000 programs will be printed) and a thank you from stage as well as on the video of the pageant. I'm sorta excited as I've never had this happen before and I'm hoping that something good will come of it in the form of future business. We shall see I suppose.
  2. Great job on your new label. Thanks for helping with mine too. If anyone needs design help, IM firestarter and see if she'll help. Thanks again.
  3. I once had one called Kiwi Lime Cooler. Dont' remember where I bought it from but it was premixed when I got it. So maybe you could try Kiwi. Other suggestions: strawberry, cherry, watermelon, lemon
  4. I do a scent of the month as well but no sales really from it. I need to go in and update the fragrance to April's scent LOL. I use Designer 218 and offer 15% off on FOM sales. You just enter % off when you enter the item into your website. Contact Mandy for help.
  5. Any label suggestions for 8 oz square mason jars? I'd like to design a new label for my jars. Any ideas on size that would work? Also, does anyone recommend someone to help design labels or an easy to use do it yourself program?
  6. I use Cinnamon Surprise from BCS and it smells great both oob and in IGI 6006.
  7. No because I don't have either of those scents in my fragrance line. Any suggestions on a good orchid and pineapple supplier?
  8. anyone know where I can find Pineapple Orchid Bath and Body works type? i LOVE that fragrance but would rather make my own candles than buy them. I feel like I'm betraying myself when I purchase a candle LOL.
  9. As with most things now days.....charge more and receive less. They keep going up on pricing yet the service time gets longer. But then again, the postal service in my area is sorry anyway. It's sometimes after 6 or 7 in the evening before I get my mail and the only reason I don't have a PO box is simply because it's hard to get out with the new baby every day and just easier to wait for the mail.
  10. I'll have to pass. It's bad enough that the government wants to control our lives more and more these days through laws and ordinances (some of which are just down right rediculous) but to require certification to make candles? Come on..........who is to say that someone doesn't get certified and then turn right back around and make them in an unsafe manner. The problem as it is mostly relies on the consumer who either out of stupidity or ignorance doesn't burn a candle correctly and then wants to turn around and sue the candle maker when his or her home burns to the ground. It's bad enough that because of people like them it's hard to find insurance to cover making candles much less affordable insurance for the small business owner. Thus in that aspect I say think again and no thanks!!!!!!!!
  11. I hear they are going to raise stamps every May.......if you ask me they are charging more for lousier service and slower delivery time!
  12. Also, I know that Ohio goes by your annual amount of income so that could possibly be a factor as well.
  13. I currently have Ohio Casualty but it's acutally billed by America First Insurance. On my statements it says coverage is provided by Ohio Casualty insurance. Anyway, I just got my renewal paperwork and bill and it's still 500 dollars/year. Hope I"m not missing something cus I didn't see any significant changes to my policy and my bill says 500/year.
  14. I use Ohio Casualty insurance. Not sure if they cover your area but you could always check on the internet at Ohio Casualty's site.
  15. Can someone tell me what the 51-32-18z wicks are equal to approximately when using CD wicks? (ex: if using the 51-32-18z wicks, what approx size would you start with if wanting to test the same jar using a CD wick?)
  16. looking to add 8 ounce square masons to my list of products. Not sure what wick to start with CD wise as I use IGI 6006 wax. The opening of the jars is 2.5 inches across. Any starting suggestions? I use a cd12 for regular 8 oz JJ.
  17. I've only done one show this fall and due to the baby on the way, it's my final show of the year (can't see myself lugging tables, candles and other products much longer). This show was at a church and although it was slower than last year traffic wise, I made more money than I did last year. Of course, I did lower my prices as I am doing an inventory reduction to make room for new products so maybe that helped some. All in all I suppose I did good considering the economy and what I was expecting. There was also another candle maker there though, yet she said she only sold maybe 8 candles total all day. Guess it depends on your product and your customers as many who bought from me were repeat buyers from last year.
  18. I'm considering ways to reduce my costs of making a candle and have found that EZ soy wax is cheaper than the current wax that I am using. Currently I use IGI 6006, which I like the performance of but would also like to possibly switch over to complete soy wax. I know this will involve lots of time and testing of the new products, but can anyone who uses EZ soy give me any advise as to how the wax performs and your experience with it. I know the ultimate decision is up to me, but I'd like to get others thoughts on the wax. Does it adhere well to jars? How is the frosting? Does it require additives? Thanks in advance everyone!
  19. Not sure if this is where to post this but just curious if anyone else is having problems signing into yahoo mail? I can't this morning and it tells me I've stumbled upon a temporary error. Just curious if anyone else is having the same issue.
  20. What are your most popular fall fragrances? Please state if you use these in B&B products or candles. I have several "fall" fragrances but am thinking of "spot lighting" a few come beginning of September.
  21. I wouldn't worry about HIM contacting a lawyer. If he does he will look awful ignorant to take you to court when you have evidence that HE didn't follow through with his obligations either. Most likely...he doesn't want to pay and wants something for free and hopes he can string you along with him. A scare tactic type thing. Take it from me........it may take a long time to recoup your loss (I still am in a sense and it's been 8 months), BUT the relief of not having the person to deal with and worry about is much better than the burden of worrying about them.
  22. Make everything written!!! If you do send him an invoice...do it certified mail or better yet get a return receipt as well. I don't think he will take you to court but then if he does he can't say "she never gave me X and I don't know what to pay her." If you have everything in writing/email as you state about him agreeing to pay, etc then I wouldn't worry about him trying to take you to court particularly when it would be him in the wrong. and I agree with the above though too that it may just be best to cut your loss and move on. If you feel sending him the letter may work, then try that, but if it doesn't then I'd just move on and cut my losses. No use in wasting more time, money or energy on someone who isn't worth it. Best of luck!
  23. Not sure how things will work in Germany but from someone who has been in a similar situation I will tell you that your first step is to contact your attorney. BUT, the attorney is going to ask for contracts and all written communciation you have with him particularly that pertaining to payment. If you have it in writing that he is to pay X amount by X time each month and you have communicated to him that he is behind and needs to pay up (in writing) then your lawyer can send him a demand letter demanding he pay you the balance to avoid any further legal action. I can tell you though that it will greatly depend on what he owes you if you want to consider this option as you probably know lawyers are expensive and for me it was almost 600 dollars just to get the letter sent and have contact made with the guy since the lawyer charged to write it up plus his time. So, you may want to consider if it's better for you to chalk it up as a loss too. NOT by any means telling you what to do but you should just at least call and ask an attorney cus maybe sending him a certified letter by mail will be sufficient.
  24. I have to agree with the above! After being burned once before, a very wise sucessful business person who owns several furniture manufacturing stores in Mississippi and Alabama once told me, wholesale only and NEVER EVER do consignment. He said and I quote "use your money to work for you." In other words get your money and turn it around to work for you buy using it to make other products, buy supplies, etc. Otherwise, you have product just sitting there not bringing you any money and you only have "hopes" it will sell and you are setting yourself up for a let down should something/anything go wrong. So, as Candlelady says "wholesale or NO sale." Sorry I wouldn't do it personally.......what if she closes shop in a few months and skips town after you've paid rent for X number of months? Just a thought to consider
  25. Not sure about other states, but in TX, they no longer use the SS number for your tax ID. When I first got mine years ago for my other business they had a 2 in front of the SS number and a 1 behind it but the middle numbers were your SS number. I received notice about 2 and a half to three years ago or so that for privacy reasons they were changing this so that the tax ID number is by no means tied to your SS number and thus not tied to your personal identity in hopes this would avoid identity theft. Personally I like the new number better. Sure my old number was easier for me to remember BUT I always risked someone using it for reasons outside of business. Contact your state comptroller's office as they are the ones who will give you the best and most correct advise. You can look them up on the web and either check out a website or give them a call.
