  1. Do you know who she went through to buy that? I have also heard of people taking down the numbers and then doing the actual processing at home.
  2. Anyone use a mobile credit card machine for craft shows? If so who do you use? Anyone give any advise on this or help send me to suppliers of this? thanks in advance. I am looking for something to take CC payments at shows, etc as well as possible online at my website (currently use paypal to pay w/website).
  3. Ok, I am sorry if I am just repeating what was said before but I can't seem to find the thread I want to reply to. Anyway, I would like to know about Craft shows. I have a scent tray with a sample of each of my scents. I was going to take some of my more popular scents and my holiday scents to this show and then my scent tray with a sign saying also available to order. This way they could order and I could go home and get or make the candle for them and deliver to them. Would you guys or do you guys require payment up front in a situation like this or do you do so when they receive the item? I am doing my first craft show the end of November and i'm trying to get everything together now. I have so many scents there is no way I can take them all. Any other advise greatly appreicated as to how to handle this situation or as to number of products to bring to the show. It is a one day show all day from 8 am til 9 pm indoors. TIA.
  4. What would you price a 16 ounce mason jar candle at made from a 50/50 parafin and soy blend wax? How about a 8 ounce JJ? Does 8 dollars seem reasonable for 8 oz jj? what about a 16 ounce mason? Help is appreicated. Thanks.
  5. Thanks....I just purchased from candlescience. They were the cheapest that I found and say (?) they ship within 24 hours. Thanks everyone.
  6. Just a note...I have 2 businesses at the moment that are totally different. The first one I started in 2001 and it was assigned a tax Id number based on my SS number. Then, our state sent me a notice stating that my number had changed because they no longer want the Id number tied to anyone's SS number. Thus, my number is different that it was in 2001. I believe this change in TX happened in or around 2003 or 2004. Now when I opened my candle business I just contacted the Comptroller's office and they sent me another ID certificate with my new business name but the same ID number as the first (not my SS number). They did this because that number is tied to ME. I have to pay sales tax based on what I sell and what is reported that I bought using that tax ID number. Plus, for income tax purposes, I have to file self-employment tax as well. HTH.
  7. I don't have all the time in the world to search the net, so can anyone recommend a place where I can find wick pins? I've checked ebay and with shipping costs tacked on I believe I can find them cheaper elsewhere. KY wax is out. Anyone recommend a place so I don't have to continue searching the web? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hobby Lobby carries Crop-A-Dile Hole Punch & Setter. My sister in law recommended it but I haven't tried it yet for punching holes. She does a lot of scrabooking and uses it. According to the website for Hobby Lobby it states "This Crop-A-Dile hole punch and setter is 8 tools in 1. It punches 1/8" x 3/16" holes and sets eyelets, snaps, and more. It is ideal for punching paper, tin, fabric, leather, chipboard, wood, plastic, acrylic, poly, and more." It retails for 26.99 but if you watch Hobby Lobby's website sometimes they have a coupon for 40 percent off any one item that is not on sale. That makes this like 16 dollars. I'm waiting for the coupon to come up again and then I plan to buy this myself. Anyone have suggestions on how to package these?
  9. Added info: I don't want you ladies/gents thinking I am making candles without prior knowledge of my wicks so I'm adding more info. I currently have wicks that are working with this wax but the supplier that is closest to me doesn't have those wicks. I want to buy from the supplier closest to me so I can pick up and save on shipping cost. Thus, I want to know which wicks would you ladies/guys suggest for use in that wax so I can buy some to try/test burn. Thanks in advance.
  10. I remelted it in a warm oven and put more oil in the candle. I also told them that wickless can hold more but that next time if they are going to use them on a warmer then they need to tell me and order a wickless candle instead....sigh. Wasn't that hard to remelt and add more fo but still.
  11. KY parasoy container blend used in 8 and 16 ounce jelly jars. What wicks would work? I'm considering cd 12 and cd 18. What do you guys think or recommend if anyone is familiar w/that wax.
  12. Would be a lot easier to simply buy a wickless candle... LOL yes I know. Someone bought this from me, pulled the wick out and now they are not satisified with the scent throw on their warmer. I agreed (since they are otherwise good buyers) to redo the candle by adding more wax. I told them to order wickless next time.
  13. I'm looking for advice on melting down a container candle so that I can take the wick out to make it a wickless candle and then add more fragrance to it. Any advice?
  14. I am looking for a place that makes or sells custom molds. What I'm looking for really is a TX shaped mold. If anyone knows where I can go to look, let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks.
  15. Just curious how everyone promotes his or her business. Word of mouth, ads, craft fairs? How do you find that you are selling the majority of your candles? Just looking for new outlets as to how to advertise and sell mine. I love making them but I'm about to give up if I can't at least break even lol....may go back to just being a hobby for myself.
  16. Can anyone point me in a direction of where I can purchase custom warning labels instead of those that are generic? By custom I mean those that I am able to put my business information on (name, website, phone, etc) as well as the container, tart, etc warning. I saw a candle like this and liked the way it looked. I am trying to redesign my labels as I feel they look too busy. If I can add this info to the bottom my items, it would help greatly with my labels. Thus, if anyone can point me somewhere to buy these I'd appreciate it. I have not yet checked with places like Office Max, but I was thinking maybe they'd print them.
  17. Can you give a description of the scent? I like to color my candles based upon what the scent smells like.
  18. The Candle Source scents are wonderful! I love all their scents and can't wait for the new ones to come out. I spoke with Loren and she said that popcorn and gingersnap cookie should be in this week and the rest (holiday scents) within the next week or two. Loren is great with customer service and the scents are GREAT too! Can't wait.
  19. I sell A LOT of my candles to men so this scent actually attracts the guys. I've left my scent alone (name wise) and I color it a dark pinkish-red. If I had to rename it though I think I'd name it something like raspberry-orange slush (since it's a raspberry and orange scent).
  20. Can anyone recommend a wick to use with a parasoy (50/50 parafin and soy) blend container wax? Would be used to make 8 and 16 ounce jelly jar candles mostly.
