  1. Oh, my gosh, you're such an inspiration to me. These are truly gorgeous candles. :highfive:
  2. These are so pretty! And I LOVE Cotton Blossom FO. GOOD JOB :highfive:
  3. Thanks so much for posting this! I think I'll give it a whirl . . .
  4. Ah, heavy heavy sigh. :undecided Wishing I had a sewing machine again . . .
  5. OK, don't leave us in suspenders here, WHICH RECIPE???
  6. I love White Ginger and Amber, also London Lemon Curd. I tried OMH once and it was horrid in a milk bath. But that was MY nose, yours might like it.
  7. I try to keep my pricing schemes fairly simple by looking around on the web at retailers of similar products, calculate them "per ounce," then I price mine slightly lower. The reasoning behind this is that while I'm not a big name seller, my products are hand crafted and of high quality which makes them worth the cost. So far that has stood me in good stead.
  8. I'll be interested in the response you get from the etsy-ers. I just can't imagine selling a scrub, especially a sugar scrub, sans preservative. You just KNOW water will get into it, if no other way than damp fingers scooping it out. BLECH!!!
  9. It may depend upon your FO because, as you have probably figured out, some FOs are stronger than others regardless of the medium, be it lotion, body butter, or candles.
  10. Thank you ALL so much for your positive responses. I try to keep things simple since I am such a simpleton! I know what it's like to get bogged down in a website and I didn't want that to happen. And I've been shamelessly plugging it to everyone I know. I hope they don't start avoiding me. . . Anyhoo, thanks! ETA: Any and all constructive criticism is most welcome.
  11. Thanks for your encouragement, both of you. Yes, indeedy, I love playing with the B&B, too. I'm going to retire in three years and I look forward to doing this full time.
  12. I've just released my new website (see my siggie) and I'm so excited. I've already had sales (not from the website but from friends) and I'm rarin' to go! I'll be taking off work tomorrow to do some more formulating as my product line is still very limited. YIPPEE
  13. Way To Go! Here's wishing you all the best with your new business.
  14. Amber Romance. I just can't get enough of that fragrance!
  15. Well, really and truly, sea salt is just that no matter where it comes from. Its origin would determine the "kind," e.g. Dead Sea Salt obviously comes from the Dead Sea. But it's still sea salt regardless of its origin. However, I believe sea salt can and does come in different granule sizes. I buy my regular sea salt from the grocery store and it's a fine granule size which suits my purposes just fine. I say go for it!
  16. Hey, you can buy MY supplies and I'll make all the stuff! I'd be happy to make candles for you but I'm over on the other side of the continent so it wouldn't be cost-effective. I do have a question, however---what's the point of a candle without fragrance?
  17. Nope, sugar doesn't make the scrub sticky at all, it makes it WUNNERFUL. Yep, the lard is a nice lotion ingredient that doesn't make it greasy or stiff. Think coconut oil as it's about the same consistency. Just give it a try; you may have to tweak the percentage to get it the way you like it, but it makes a nice lotion. Don't think you'll have any problem with it pumping out of a bottle. Frankly, I was a bit taken aback when I first heard of making lotion with lard but after trying it it's just not bad at all. Go for it!
  18. Hey, nothing wrong with lard! I've made a really nice lotion with it.
  19. OK, get ready for a dumb question: what is bath syrup?
  20. Since I put a small amount of oil in my bath salts, I mix the oil and FO in a small container and put a drop of colorant in that mixture. Then drizzle it into the dry ingredients and stir stir stir stir stir and stir some more with a large spatula, mashing the lumps as I go along. Works like a charm.
  21. I think I would stay away from yellow---think Frank Zappa, don't eat no yellow snow; watch out where the huskies go . . .
  22. That's really the beauty of scrubs, both salt and sugar--you don't really have to use anything expensive to make a truly wonderful product. And I really like your idea of leaving the salt scrub in the window to warm.
  23. I always go by percentage when scenting anything, even candles. I use 1.5% FO in my sugar scrub recipe and it's a nice scent load. Depending on the scent I will even go lower than that. As for lotions and butters, I also start out at a very low percentage and add more if it needs. Again it depends on the fragrance as some are much stronger than others.
