My first scale was the Good Cook scale from WalMart. I didn't like it because it measured in increments of 1/8 ounce and I hated having to do conversions. I now use a Tanita scale that measures in increments of 0.05 ounce which is perfect.
You're right -- I'd probably be more careful if I knew I couldn't remove excess FO since it's already in the wax. Since I use a separate FO measuring container (one for each FO, no clean up required ) I just squirt away until I get close then I squeeze just enough to get drops. But sometimes, when I'm in a rush I don't hit the brakes on time.
I use the flip tops as well, but sometimes, I squirt too much FO into my FO measuring cup. Since I use one cup per scent, I just put back the excess. How do you do it if you weigh your FO into the pot that already has wax in it? Do you always weigh exact?
Are we confusing you all the more? I like the pink one, third from left, as well as the one sitting on top of it. I'm not crazy about white lids either.
What if you put too much FO by mistake? I use the tri-pour polypropylene 100 ml beakers -- one beaker per scent so no clean up needed. http://www.sciencekit.com/category.asp_Q_c_E_755007
Yup, and if people can't follow simple instructions like trimming the wick, who knows how many drops (or more likely ounces ) they'll put into the melt pool.
In your description for 8 ounce jelly jars: These are just canning jars and hold 8 ounces of wax. We also our 70/30 blend in these jars. I would remove the word "just" to say "These are canning jars..." The next sentence is missing the word "use."
My test wicks faint when I have about an inch of wax or less left in the jar. If your wicks faint with half the wax still in the jar, maybe the wick didn't reach all the way down to the bottom?
IMO, if it's burning fine, not sooting, and you get a good mp within the prescribed amount of time, it should be a good wick. In most warning label instructions, it states to keep out of drafts.
