  1. I got my first scale from WalMart -- a Good Cook digital scale. I don't use it anymore because it measures in increments of 1/8 ounce and I didn't want to have to convert from fractions to decimals. I now have a Tanita KD 300 which measures in increments of 0.05 oz.
  2. Looks good to me so far. In my testing, the HTP 104 burns the same or a bit hotter than an Eco 8, depending on the FO (in soy wax). I think an Eco 12 would be a torch in this jar. It looks like the wax you have leftover on the sides will melt down with subsequent burns. Would you happen to have HTP wicks on hand?
  3. Hi Henry, Haven't tried Joy Wax but was considering trying a blend. Can't wait to see your results with lots of pictures.
  4. Another vote for an embossing gun. You can get one at JoAnn's and with a 40% off coupon, it comes down to around $12. The brand of my embossing gun is Darice -- been using it for a year and a half.
  5. Yes, best to burn it all the way down. Keep us posted. The plates were a wedding present 12 years ago.
  6. Are these still the Eco 8's? I can't really tell from the picture, but is the deeper side at least 1/4" deep? How is the throw? If at least 1/4" deep I would stick with this wick and burn all the way down. BTW, I have the same Mikasa plates.
  7. Yup, if you use 6% FO in let's say a pound of wax, you would need 0.96 ounces FO and 15.04 ounces wax.
  8. You should be looking for the Kitchen Kettle made by Presto, aka the Presto Pot. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-1/qid=1151207366/ref=sr_1_1/602-5270636-0964607?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00006IUWH You can find this in WalMart for about $20, if I'm not mistaken. It isn't sold with the spout. Instructions for installing the spout are found here: http://www.candletech.com/budgetmelter/index.htm Whether to have the spout or not is a matter of preference though.
  9. If the depth of your melt pool at 4 hours was over an inch, the wick is too big. It is advisable to strive for a melt pool 1/4 to 1/2" deep. I try to keep my mp's around 1/4 to 3/8" so that it doesn't get significantly deeper even with power burns. Like Brenda said, the wax will tend to catch up with subsequent burns, as you get to the narrower part of your jar. I'm not sure how much you've explored this message board, so I'm throwing in another tip. It'd be easier if you don't wick your jars when you pour them. Once they've set up, you can poke a hole in the center using a skewer, stick a wick in, then use the heat gun to hold it in place. That way, if it doesn't look like the right wick, you can easily yank it out and replace it. Don't be too quick to pull out a wick though. I like doing multiple burns before I make a decision on a certain wick.
  10. I like 4 and 5 but there may be other fonts worth looking into. Shouldn't "farmers" be lower case though?
  11. It's ok to use plastic that has the #5 on the bottom (polypropylene). FO doesn't eat through this. I use 100 ml polypropylene beakers to measure my FO in-- one for each scent, no need for clean up.
  12. NGI is Nature's Gifts, Inc. They manufacture EcoSoya waxes. www.ngiwax.com
  13. Some test burn after 24 hours, only to check the melt pool. Most wait 4-7 days to check for scent throw.
  14. This may help: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11671&highlight=saran I may be wrong, but I don't think a heat gun would work with Saran wrap.
  15. TLC, Is it 4 3/4" measured diagonally across?
  16. And there's 10% off (coupon code is "gifts") till June 18
  17. I asked a similar question a few months back. HTH. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16447
  18. Yup, EZ Soy is exclusive to Bittercreek. Some say that KY Puresoy is similar, if not the same wax.
  19. You could get an embossing gun at JoAnn's -- about $12 if you have the 40% off coupon.
  20. Been colorless since I started selling over a year ago. Not one customer has ever asked for color.
