  1. I shredded up a batch of Ol' South Pumpkin Pie that got too banged up when I had to fight to get it out of the mold (the mold won), then dumped the shreds into a batch of Baked Apples 'n' Cinnamon. So now I guess I have Pumpkin Apple Butter or something like that. It looks kinda cool, smells very good and this time I was smart enough to put it in an Upland. Tomorrow a big birthday party for my sister and then maybe cranberry orange on Sunday.
  2. If you want something playful and happy, how about along the lines of Harvest Dance Harvest Feast Harvest Festival Harvest Fest Or stick the word Autumn in there instead. Autumn Dance? Autumn Breeze?
  3. I'm no expert but I thought it was okay to use photos from those sites on things like a business logo or label just paying the one-time fee. However, if you were to use the photos/artwork in situations where the photos themselves are the selling point - say in greeting cards - then you paid for the extended license because you're reselling someone else's work.
  4. SYR, do you mean the portion cups? I use a three tier acrylic display. Each tier (or tray, if you will) has four compartments so that means 12 scents in one display, or six scents if it's a bigger show and I use two compartments per scent. I set as many display cases side-by-side as I need. One way I'd emphatically NOT display them is mixed together in a container, even if the container is something attractive. It's just too much work for customers to dig through. My sales went up dramatically when I separated them out.
  5. Just an FYI for anybody still interested in the marble warmers - OBI has red, black, blue, green and brown back in stock.
  6. I think strawberry rhubarb is one of those fragrances that can smell great to one person but awful to the next. I've tried a bunch of 'em but always get a whiff of something skunkish even though other people have loved it. Like comfortscents said, maybe vanilla would tame it down.
  7. By October our farm store is pretty much all pumpkin patch so your setting should be about the same as ours. Defintely, yes, to the melters - people won't buy tarts if they have to go to the inconvenience of tracking down a melter elsewhere - and yes to those bestsellers. Even at a themed event I think it's important to have a well-rounded line-up. I don't carry more than 2 -3 pumpkin ones, along with another harvest-ish one and cinnamon. IMO too many scents in the same theme tends to confuse customers. Then I add some holiday ones - cranberry marmalade, winter blast, cinnaberry. Last year I sold more winter/Christmas stuff in October than in December so don't worry that it's too early. Then I have my year 'round favorites like lemon, black raspberry vanilla, sweet orange & chili pepper. Overall, I usually have up to 36 fragrances available but you could easily do less with some good choices.
  8. OT's is back in stock and is $19.95 per pound. I tried it this year in CP soap for the first time so don't have anything to compare it to. Plus, I haven't been camping so haven't even used the soap (great testimonial, I know) But my nephews used it on their camping trip and swore it worked. They even held their arms up into swarms of flying insects and said the bugs moved away. Of course, they didn't hold up any untreated arms so who knows if the bugs would've moved anyway (this testimonial just keeps getting better, huh? :rolleyes2) ETA: oops, Chris, ya' beat me to it.
  9. Hope this shows up well enough for color. This is after a seven week cure. The lower part has the FO with no other colorant or pumpkin, etc, added. It's not quite a pumpkin color but still looks good.
  10. You're welcome! I'm on their website a lot and have just recently been wondering how well these things would work. I have a hard time believing that they wouldn't get gummy and just dry together in a clump so I'd love to hear feedback if somebody tries it. But if they do work and end up pourable, that could be pretty cool. I could see packaging them in anything from a cello bag to a jar like mason or apothecary.
  11. Candlesoylutions has the materials and the tutorial on their website. They also sell the soy drops already fragranced. Here's the link to the tutorial: http://candlesoylutions.com/thumbnail.asp?offset=0&deep=1&cid=70
  12. I've always just assumed the stuff they use at my local salon was regular bath salts. They put some in the water for soaking and then apply a little to each foot while massaging and exfoliating. Next time I'm in I'll have to ask what's on the ingredients list.
  13. I pour the wax out while still melted and wipe with a paper towel. Just takes a few seconds.
  14. I second this. I was taught years ago not to have scented candles at food events, which is why you will rarely find them used in restaurants. And at wedding receptions you normally also have to contend with the fragrance of fresh flowers. What smells yummy to the bride when she picks out a candle fragrance can be nauseating mixed with the aromas of food and flowers.
  15. My oval label is big enough for my business name, fragrance name, weight and brief instructions about removing the wax melt from the container before placing in the tart melter. That's all the info I figure they need on the package. But at shows and in our store, I put up a sign next to the melts and warmers that gives an explanation of what they are and how to use them.
  16. I use the 1 oz cups and label on the lid with a clear gloss 1.5" x .75" oval label from Online Labels, 55 to a sheet. They're small but still legible.
  17. Okay, Carebear, I know you didn't ask this question but I'll throw out the idea anyway....I was at a baby shower where tubes of lip balm were wrapped in tissue (or baby gift wrap, I can't quite remember), then the ends were twisted like tootsie roll packaging. Each end was tied with curly ribbon. They were pretty cute.
  18. The fragrance most popular with my kid customers? Peak's Grandma's Swingin' Eggnog! I don't suggest marketing to them under that name, though.
  19. Dee, they don't have any of the marble ones on the website anymore. They still had the green ones up until about a month ago but those are now gone. They do have some new designer ones, though, including a couple that look a tad more like the scentsy warmers. Other than that the designs are either plain, floral, nascar (????) or the homespun ones. Case prices run from $4.50 - $6.50 each, depending on style. You can also now buy just one of each unlike before but, of course, the price is $1 higher that way.
  20. I was thinking exactly the same thing. Or maybe call it Pacific Sunset. At any rate, it's beautiful.
  21. I would love to know what I'm missing which is why, Scented, I hope you're officially signed up for the spring soap swap. But, of course, then my fear will be sending you one of mine.
  22. The colors might not be exactly what you wanted but, good lord, they are all beautiful.
  23. Love them all, especially the lavender! Just confirms all the more why I don't need to show pics of my soaps
