  1. God I wish I could show you a picture!! I actually got a container wicked right! First time too *pats herself on head*. I couldn't believe it, the flame was perfect, not too small not too big, no flickering, no mushrooming, and the melt pool goes to the edge YAYYYYY. And it smells deeeevine cinnamon doughnuts Mmmmmm (sounding like Homer himself ). Sorry for blowing my own trumpet but i's a clever girl :whoohoo: Anjie,x.
  2. I use paraffin, haven't tried soy yet and don't feel the need to. I read somewhere that it leaves your containers with a nice creamy/silky texture on top. But I use Candlelights paraffin container blend for my containers and its fantastic. Anjie,x.
  3. OH WOW! Go girl!! Those look fab. Are you going to test burn those particular candles? let me know how they burn, i'd love to know how you get on. Anjie,x.
  4. LMAO! ROFL! God that was funny, my sides hurt. Anjie,x.
  5. Thank you! Making my way through all the links FHG I'm getting there, yes I am Anjie,x.
  6. Can somebody please put me straight on the correct way to test a candle. Do you have to burn 3 hours at a time, or only the first burn for 3 hours? Does it matter if i don't get a full melt pool the first burn? Will it catch up on the 2nd? How long do you leave between burns? When do you do a marathon burn? Or is that just for containers? *takes a deep breath* Anjie,x.
  7. I've just made a pillar this size, I didn't know what wick to start the ball rolling with, then I remembered your thread I know you get different results for different waxes, dyes, fo's etc but i gave it a try with the LX16 and I must say it is burning beautifully so far. No flickering or smoking and the melt pool is growing nicely. Its only been going for a few hours but so far I am pleased. So thank you very much Ladysj!! Given the choice I actually would have chosen a wick to big :embarasse , but time will tell. Can I just ask....what is the reasoning behind burning for 3 hours and then putting out, then again for 3 hours etc?? Or do I have this wrong too LOL. I've heard people mention a marathon 24 hour burn, when do you do this? And is this just for containers or pillars too? Anjie,x.
  8. Oh WOW! Are those Cinnabuns? God I love those things!! I know they are pretty much American but over here at the Lakeside shopping centre there is a cinnabun shop - ohhhh the smell and the taste is to die for Those look great, surely you aren't going to burn that LOL, damn I am sounding like my Mum, she has candle she has had for years and she just will NOT burn them! Let us know what it burns like, if you light it and well done you! Anjie,x.
  9. Yes - welded to the mould - thats exactly what it was LOL! Does that mean that its ruined now? Will everything stick to it now i've melted it?? :embarasse You pour containers at slushy stage?? I thought they were poured at high temp. too dohhhh. High temp. into heated jars?? No??? God I have soo much to learn, my head hurts Thank you soo much for the offer of showing me how to do it, but, unfortunately I have 2 sick babies (one 2 year old with the flu! thanks to her dad :undecided , bloody germ carrier LOL) so its not really possible for the next week or so anyway. Maybe another time if the offer's still open. Thanks again. Anjie,x.
  10. I have been reading up on the old gallery threads and someone had said "don't forget to hug the candle before your 2nd burn" .... what does that mean exactly?? I know I have to get used to this terminology :embarasse I take it it doesn't mean giving your candle some love and affection LOL. Anjie,x.
  11. Hi Nat. Ummm i heated the wax to 180F then poured it :embarasse way too hot then! cringe, cringe!! I was using paraffin pillar wax (from candlelights) with stearin added, and coconut FO but no colour. I used the usual 1oz FO to Ib of wax that I usually use. I will try one more time (LMFOA) no colour, no F/O, and at a cool temp - and we will see what happens. I was soo close to throwing the sodding thing out of the window even better, i'll stick it in an envelope and send it to you - if you can get them out then ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Anjie,x.
  12. So what is easier about pouring into a mould then moving to the cups?? I sit and tab up my wicks before I start (watching tv ) then line them all up on a tray and pour the wax directly into them....... sorted! I just don't see how it would be easier using a mould. Anjie,x.
  13. OMG NO! Ooooops! Well, I think this mould is a no-no. I seriously am losing my patience with this, I did exactly what you said, even oiled up the mould slightly. Left mould in fridge for 10 minutes. Pulled mould gently away from sides of wax etc. The ears STILL break off!!! One of the bunnies was soo stuck that when i eventually pulled the 'peices' out they had a pink tinge to them (the wax is white!) from the mould. I don't know, maybe its just not compatible with wax. :angry2: Thanks for all your help anyway. Anjie,x.
  14. Cool. I'm just giving it another go, am waiting for them to set up. Although, doing 5 things at the same time, i put my mould in the oven to warm up and forgot about it!!!! 2 of the outside cavities are shall we say a BIT distorted now :embarasse , oh well could have been worse I suppose. Wont make that mistake again. Anjie,x.
  15. I think you could be right, the wick isn't trimmed enough. It's on its 3rd burn now and the glass is actually emptying with no wax left on the glass, so althought the burn pool isn't reaching the sides, it must be melting off the glass or it would still be there dohhh. Sorry, that must have sounded really stupid LOL. Another problem that I noticed on the first burn was that the wick was slightly off centre, sooooo....... so was the burn pool!! On the 2nd burn the melt pool reached one side, but not the other. Next go I will rectify this and burn again and see what happens. Fun, fun, fun. I am having soo much fun candlemaking!! As my hubby says 'it keeps me quiet' Anjie,x.
  16. oh WOW! Thank you Natasha!! Sounds like you have done this before LOL. I am getting really frustrated with this and was on the verge of giving up with that particular mould - but will persevere now :highfive: I did wonder about the oil but then thought it might leave marks on the finished melt. Thank you so much. Anjie,x.
  17. LOL! I didn't know that either! I wasn't sure about using both together, but didn't know what effect it had. Thanks candle man. Just tried to get some more bunnies out the mould and the ears broke off again GRRRRRRRR! Anjie,x.
  18. To tell you the truth Vybar and stearin confuse me :embarasse Do you use them together or one or t'other?? Or does it depend on the project? Anjie,x.
  19. I have stearin in the wax, this helps with release doesn't it? Anjie,x.
  20. Thanks Dani and gdawg for your replies. I am using paraffin...and I will try the freezer this time Anjie,x.
  21. Said candle is now smoking. What does this generally mean? Wick too big or too small? If the wick is too big then surely going down a size would leave my melt pool even smaller? Confused! Anjie,x.
  22. WOW! Wick, that looks fab! well done you. Anjie,x.
  23. Has anyone got this mould? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Playboy-Bunny-Ice-Cube-Tray-Candle-Making-Mould-NEW_W0QQitemZ130085081318QQihZ003QQcategoryZ98842QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I need some advice on how to get the wax out of the moulds. I made some yesterday and broke the ears off of every one!! :undecided Would it be advisable to warm the underside of the mould slightly and see if they drop out - or am i just dreaming? Anjie,x.
  24. I let the candle burn for just over 4 hours, didn't get the wax to melt right to the glass wall, but it was soo close! This morning the candle looks like new, smooth flat surface on the wax with just a very very thin ridge/slope of wax at the edge. Should I get the heat gun on it and flatten it off completely then start burning again? Or just light it and let it get on with it? I've never done this testing thing before and need a bit of guidence. Thanks in advance. Anjie,x.
