  1. I found this recipe in my book - soapmakers companion first question - can you sub out the ?wheat germ? See You Later Alligator recipe 201 grams lye 1# 3 oz water 6 oz hazelnut 5 oz avacado oil 6 oz wheat germ oil; 4 oz sweet almond oil 1# coconut oil 14 oz palm oil 12 grams grapefruit seed extract optional Comments on this recipe in book are: Fatty acids from OO, avacado, s almond oil, wheat germ, cocoa butter provide necessary moisture as well as a protective film that prevents moisture loss. This recipes is designed to restore the skin to a more normal state. The hazelnut oil penetrates the skin easily & nourishes deeply. It is used to treat eczema because it stimulates the skin
  2. Thanks everyone for responding, I have been playing with the soapcalc. I have a couple books. i went to a friends house and we made soap and of course i have the itch to get some oils now. I have a couple recipes I want to try but just thought I would get a general idea of what everyone else uses. i took recipes and put them in the soapcalc and everything turned out the same as what the recipe online or in the book did except the water was always off for some reason but that i will figure out when i decide what oils to get or should i say what recipe i finally decide on. There is a lot to remember on the properties of the oils, thats for sure.
  3. The reason I asked that question is because of the co-ops that are going on right now. figured it was a good time. I have already stocked up on a couple of the grocery store oils.
  4. I am going to take the plunge and dive into CP soap I need advice from all you experienced soapers. Which oils & butters do you recommend that I purchase (THE MUST HAVES). are these the most commonly used ??? i see these the most in the recipes i have found cocoa coconut OO palm & palm kernel oil castor apricot kernel oil (have seen this mentioned in threads several times) TIA Annettra
  5. Thats a really neat idea. I am all for saving money any way I can. I do have a question tho. What kind of trays are best to dry soaps on ? Plastics, polypro, metal?? Are the trays solid or wire rack types, ventilated in any way?? I am confused and I really can't see in the pic what type of trays they are.
  6. I just ordered cards last week, I will watch my cc to see if extra charges are on it after I receive my order. Thanks for the heads up
  7. I think I would just rent like trish did. It might be more expensive in the long run but it's just something else you don't have to tote around. JMO Putting up - tearing down.....more time consuming also. plus I am sure your going to be tired after a show anyway and who wants to mess with something else to tear down? Again JMO
  8. Looks good Jami. Love the colors did you use dye chips or liquids
  9. Thats great grama. With all the test results on various waxes this is the first wax that has had such great reviews with little to no problems, actually no problems. I am glad everyone is enjoying this wax plus the new wicking. Sounds like a no-fuss wax to me. I am sure they will make their money off of us on this wax. Good job candlescience. It really is a very pretty container wax.
  10. dang, how thick is this stuff.........hmmm how about a cookie press? maybe a really big funnel and cut the funnel part off at the base then bang like heck on the counter to get it in the bottle???? roll up a heavy paper plate and cut a hole in the bottom use that as a funnel ??? pretty lame ideas huh. what abou lol last resort scrap the tubes - buy sample jars
  11. See, thats why I went with the liquid dyes in the first place because I read post about consistency with them. I rather have that than frosting tho. I will read up on it again, its been a few months and I have slept since then. Heck I figured it was something I was doing not the dyes but heck its worth a shot, ya never know. thanks for the tip
  12. Yep I am using liquid dyes. Hmmm does this mean I have to spend more dollars I didn't want to lol.....You do realize I can't just order ONE thing !!!! Ok I am gonna ask what kind do you use and where do ya get em lol....
  13. Absolutely stunning !!! When I grow up I wanna make candles like those
  14. Ahhhh ok lindsay, thanks for the heads up on that, I just figured it was the same for all bases. Ok I will hush now, sorry I didn't mean to give out the wrong info I really did think it was right. Thanks for setting us both straight
  15. lol TX, i know what you mean I am ready to give up too on certain colors. I just went thru every candle that is in boxes and get this....its only the pink, reds and a few browns. uggggg oh well no big deal, its soy right ! lol oops forgot to add - its not all the pinks either, maybe it was colder than I thought when I made them
  16. I may just have to try this new wax. I bought some pillar palm off classys but it was from glorybee and I haven't gotten around to working with it yet. I need to do that this weekend, I keep putting it off. However those containers with the glas glow are fabulous. I would have to change my jars if I used that tho but it just might be worth it to not have any frosting issues and an easy pour. That frosting drives me NUTS !!!!
  17. Yea, thats what I thought but it hasn't been all that cold since I made these candles. I know I had really bad problems this winter when it got super cold for a few weeks but these were made after that. That is what confused me so much, even when it got a little chilly in the house it was never below 65 in here. Any other suggestions or do you think 65 would have done it too ??
  18. I bought base off of lindsay at soapersworkshop and i asked this very same question and this was her reply to me Here's how I calculate how much Flavor Oil to use. 1. Weigh out your base (you don't have to use the whole base, but you WILL need to weigh out whatever portion you're using). Let's use 4 oz for this example. 2. Multiply 4 oz by 1% (4 x 0.01). 0.04 oz of Flavor Oil. Since this isn't weighable by most scales, I then take this number, and put it into Google for them to convert it. (it's easier for me to do this than to save a conversion program) 3. 0.04 oz to ml (type into Google Search). Which then tells you 1.18 ml. The pipettes I use have ml markings on them. I use these to measure out my flavor oils. HTH
  19. Ok !!! I need some good advice here. I made some candles 2 months ago and I went to get some out and they had major frosting. When I put them in the box and stored them away there were NOT frosted !!! Any ideas as to why this is happening??? Tops were smooth, great HT/CT everything. Stored at room temp in my dining room in a closed box. thanks annettra
  20. grama, are you using palm stearic by chance ?
  21. LOL candleman, I just asked this same question myself on another thread then run across yours. I too am curious if this is any different than the other palms out there
  22. Stupid question here but is this palm wax any different than the others on the market or is this your first time trying this wax?
  23. Those do look nice !! Did you do a 2nd pour? What do you think about those wicks compared to others you have burned in this wax ?
  24. That is an excellent price on C3 !!! Sigh, I just got a shipment of 4 cases, wouldn't ya know it
