  1. The AC definitely effects a test. We have a central unit, and it sucks some of the scent right to it (around the corner from where I put one of my candles). Although it does scent my living room, boy can you ever smell it in that hallway;) In theory, the heat in the winter should do the same thing, but it really doesn't effect it much at all--go figure?
  2. Very pretty--and your labels are great. I firmly believe in the old adage 'less is more' when it comes to just about anything:)
  3. Definitely check Rebecca's site out. She is a true professional and a genuinely nice person. And of course, does absolutely beautiful work:)
  4. I also highly encourage you to check out Soapersworkshop. I get a custom base from her--which is wonderful--and her customer service is the best!
  5. Great! Checking out Atlantic Spice now--Thanks everybody:)
  6. I'd like to start experimenting with EOs and herbs/powders in my mp soap. Just found this website--they are 'very' inexpensive! They seem reputable from what I've read on their site. Has anyone had any experience with this company? TIA
  7. For the most part these are not new scents, but here's some of my favorites: Mistletoe Mimosa and Mandarin Violet Lime Rainwater White Clover and Tea (no good in my 6006--no hot throw at all, but it's a very clean scent and smells great in lotion and MP) Green Tea and Lemongrass
  8. Yep--all gorgeous:) Moonlight Sonata's my favorite, though--I'm partial to blue.
  9. Ditto on the 6006. It's a great wax--I love the way it looks, and as stated before, the hot throw on almost all FOs is superior. It also takes color very well.
  10. We use 30# test fishing line to slice the slabs, and put about 6-7 pounds worth in those 2 1/2 gallon zip lock bags (and re-use). Then put the bags right back in the box for storage. Just take a bag out and throw the wax in the presto:)
  11. Our Walmart doesn't have them, but I keep going back and forth on whether or not to buy one, or have 3 or 4 pictures done for me?!?
  12. Just keep doing what you're doing which is the right and honest way. You can sleep at night and not have look over your shoulders. The people selling the garbage can't.
  13. Candlescience's Green Tea and Lemongrass. And I second Snowtop's Chamomile Tea--it's a very clean and fresh scent.
  14. Back years ago one of my BILs used to drink 'apple jack'--it was apple juice and Jack Daniels;) The fo I use is Candlescience's--it's very spicy smelling--like cloves, apples, and oranges.
  15. Apple Jack and Peel. I had to wick up 3 sizes in my 16 ounce container, 2 sizes in my 8 ounce container. And this was after reducing the percentage of the oil.
  16. Thanks--that answers my question exactly--just ordered some clear high gloss ones from labels by the sheet, so I'll be trying them out in a couple of days:)
  17. Bumping this old thread because I just got back from Walmart and couldn't find the Preserve It spray. Ended up getting Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear spray. Would this be the same clear type spray that was mentioned in this thread (hopefully)--TIA
  18. $8.00 for a quality 8 oz container candle is nowhere near outrageous. However, I understand your dilemma of having close direct competition. I'd charge $7.75 and be done with it.
  19. I agree with Doris--I'd take a couple of the scents that's getting complaints, make up some candles for myself (using the exact same jars), and re-test for the scent throw. In the meantime, relay to the owners just what you said in your post about open windows, drafts, lighter spring scents, etc. And stand your ground;)
  20. IGI 6006 is a parasoy blend, heavier on the paraffin. It has a great hot/cold throw and sets up nice--I'm very satisfied with it.
  21. They very well could be different-- The other day I made up 8 oz of cream, and used just a touch under 1 cc (for the half ounce/gallon strength). The scent strength is comparable to BBW lotions. However, I only use shea/mango/coconut/olive in my base. I'm wondering if the soy lotions need more fo percentage--similar to the wax? Plus some 'cure' time? Sorry I couldn't be of more help--hopefully someone will pop in and give some suggestions who use the soy base.
  22. Bittercreek has a chart-- http://www.candlesupply.com/BBfochart.html
  23. I agree with PA--before you completely nix 'Old Dominion', I'd check into it first, cuz it's a great name--has a nice ring to it:)
  24. Peak's has semi-custom warning labels--they're very nice. I only have lid labels on my candles. I would hope folks wouldn't just throw the lid away. I never did when I used to buy all my candles, but that's me:)
  25. I think you hit the nail on the head--because when you burn a candle, you're not smelling the fo through the flame (which is what I always thought before making candles I hate to admit lol), you smell the fo through the melted wax. You had mentioned putting your candle on your warmer in your first post. That's a good idea--put it as is (12%) on there, and if you still smell the chemically smell, you know it's the amount of fo. If so, then reduce the % in increments until you no longer have that smell.
