  1. Yes, I'm so glad! They're about 1 hr and 50 minutes away from me, so that's where I'm getting my wax, wicks and containers--I haven't been dissapointed in any of their FOs that I've tried--definitely plan on checking out their new ones! Not to mention their customer service, which is wonderful:)
  2. Just got the CS newsletter--they will be adding a new FO every week this year--they say to check every Saturday morning for the new release--yay!
  3. A lb of the 6006 I use is exactly at the 2 1/2 cup mark on my pyrex. I then add dye plus 1 to 1.5 oz of my fo. If I want to use 2 lbs of wax for the same scent, I measure out 5-one cup measuring cups of the melted wax and add 2-3 oz of fo. This makes for a very full 4 cup pyrex cup, but it works!
  4. Poured a bunch last weekend so I'll be testing for the next couple of weeks!
  5. GL's Indonesian Teak, Citrus and Teak, Rain, and Green Tea and Cucumber. They were out of Maduro when I ordered, but if it's in the same category as IT, I'm goin' back!! That smells absolutely wonderful OOB
  6. Imagine my suprise when DH came home with an unexpected gain-sharing check the other day I'm on a FO roll LOL! I've ordered a few scents from Green Leaf, and now it's a toss-up between KY and BCN--- Looking for recommendations that may be unique to these suppliers, any scent group:) There's just so many to choose from! TIA-- Karrie
  7. Yes, sending her dupes of the ones that have actually turned out was more along the lines of my thinking. And like I said, she will definitely be honest! Thanks all for the input!
  8. I'm currently using Candle Cauldron's test sheet for my testing. The comment form may be more of what I'm looking for, for my sister to use. Sometimes I feel like I can't see the forest for the trees--and need an objective and honest (believe you me, she'll be honest;)) opinion!
  9. One more question and I have got to get off this computer! I'm thinking about sending my sister in Tenessee a couple of candles to try out. I've read where people will give others candles to 'test', but how do you have other folks test for you that really know nothing about what to look for? How about sending her some candles that have turned out well, but just to get an outside opinion? Of course, I would inform her about burn time, trimming wicks, etc.--the basics. Any opinions or info welcome:)
  10. I've searched the board, and find myself confused, as it seems there are many different answers, or many different ways to say the same thing, or I'm just plain slow;). Here's the way I'm figuring it, please tell me if I'm right or wrong: I weigh my empty container--it weighs 2 oz. I weigh my container with wax in it after it's set up. It weighs 12 oz. My net wt would be 10 oz...right or wrong? TIA
  11. Yacht Club smells wonderful--burning one now:)
  12. Where I live there's not alot of 'craft' shows per se, but there some flea markets. That's where I plan on going when I'm ready to sell. However, there are a ton of festivals in the summertime, so that would be an idea, too.
  13. Since you have this on hand, I think it would be a great place for storage--something I desperately need more of;) As for curing, I'd be lying to you if I tried to explain exactly what happens in this phase. As a matter of fact, my husband asked me why the candles had to be cured, and I couldn't give him a straight answer! Looks like it's back to the search button---yet again!
  14. Hobby for now. I use my kitchen, and my supplies are stored on a couple shelves in the utility room. I set everything up, then when done I put it all back:)
  15. My first thought was white, but Clothesline/Linen probably have that wrapped up. In my house there's navy, burgandy, lavender, grey, and a beige/white print. I'd go with lavender or light blue.
  16. Sheesh! So sorry this happened to ya....these definitely look like they're from her reject pile. I wouldn't pay a nickle for the lot of them!
  17. I second Snowtops Chamomile. Hard to describe the scent--very refreshing!
  18. Hi Alissa! I'm new too, so I don't have a whole lot of advice, just popped in to say "Welcome"! Highly recommend the Presto pot--I was tempted to get my husband to put the spigot on it, but I've ended up just measuring out the melted wax into my pour pots (which for now are the 4 cup Pyrex measuring cups;) There are so many reputable suppliers out there, and alot of expert advise on this site! Research, research, research:) Good luck to you, have fun, and Merry Christmas!!
  19. Great thread Ragna----you rock! (hehehe) Like many folks, got tired of paying for candles that (for the most part) were disappointing and/or too expensive. I'm new, too, so at this point it's a hobby. Hope to have enough candles that have passed testing to sell to close friends and family in a year or so. I use Comfort Blend wax, HTP wicks (thinking about adding another type of wick for a couple of candles that I think need an 'in-between' size..?) . As for containers, I'm testing 4 oz tins, 8 oz glass jars, and 16 oz WM canning jars. I also bought a case of those 18 oz Victorian keepsake jars--cuz they're so pretty-- but not having alot of luck with those (they're expensive, too:()--so they'll probably be a no-go, at least for now.
  20. Okay--the general consensus seems to be Black Cherry! I checked out Millcreek (I've never bought their FOs), and they have a really good deal on their samples--after all, I gotta do something with the little bit o' Christmas money I got, right Thanks again for all the recommendations--off to spend some more money!!
  21. My husband's absolute favorite scent is cherry--unfortunately every candle I've ever bought with this scent reminds me of industrial-type bathroom disinfectant (go figure?). I have just started candlemaking, and I'd like to make him a couple cherry scented candles (he's been hinting--and I've been putting it off;) Is there a nice 'fresh' cherry scent out there that someone could recommend? TIA
