  1. yeah, u could use a cookie cutter, however it would be a little more difficult and there would not be the variations in size and shape of the "trees" (something that offers a more 3-D vantage).
  2. Nope, not draped layers. I just waited til there was a heavy skin formed on the sides, poured out the remaining liquid from the mold and cut out the shapes i wanted with a skewer. Then I did a final pour with the green colored wax.
  3. Thought these came out kinda interesting.
  4. A couple of people asked to see some pics of the gift boxes I use. Here's one that will be sold at my Christmas Open House:
  5. Although I love the idea of the FBB, i have never been successful in getting a good lather out of it. Heather (Slowburn) makes a really nice body scrub out of it. I know she adds a foam booster to hers although it wasn't as bubbly as what I was imagining. It was more than what i was able to achieve though and is very moisturizing. I love it as a facial scrub!
  6. From what I've researched there are a couple of "cons" to using EO's to scent candles: * Significantly more expensive than FO's * The true EO scent doesn't often translate through in the burning candle. They often throw off a burning "fuel" type odor. * The flashpoint of many EO's is lower thus making a potential fire hazard. I understand the desire to make a truly "natural" type candle, but unfortunately, it isn't always a viable option with EO's. HTH
  7. I'm almost positive that WORD has a certificate template. Also, Avery design pro may have one as well. If you aren't familiar with that program, it is available for FREE download at www.avery.com HTH
  8. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be a storm cloud on your sunny day. I wanted to share my experience with you as I got "happy" with my body butter on many occassions, only to have it harden up on me a while later... I'm keepin' my fingers crossed for ya! It does look wonderful!!
  9. Great work on the names everyone! I totally love Solaris! Think I may borrow that one lol!
  10. beautiful! Way back when, I made some similar to yours. After a few weeks the clear mp turned a yellowish color and really mucked up the vibrancy of the underlying embed colors. I got discouraged and haven't made mp soaps with embeds since. I just wondered if you have experienced that and if so, what measures did you have to take to prevent it.
  11. Those are really great looking Let's see a pic of them when they're cut!!
  12. When tweaking my recipe I learned that in order to get a true "feel" for how the end result will be, I had to wait a couple of days as it often took that long for it to firm up. Unfortunately, a couple of hours wait wasn't quite long enough for me :/
  13. Unfortunately, if ya use pink sugar, you're gonna get chocolate brown. Just the nature of that beast because of the high vanilla based component of the fo. You can try all the stabilizers and different colorants that you want, but you're still going to get varying shades of brown. Now since you're wanting a pink top, why don't you scoop out a little of the soap just prior to adding the fo, color it pink and then pour it on the top of the scented soap just after you've poured it into the mold?
  14. Tanya made a huge pillar like that over the summer. I dont recall the specs on it, but if you check in the archives, you may find her post with some of the details..
  15. Beautiful work Heather!! You do such an awesome job with those displays chica
  16. I was thinking about that Jennie. Do you recall any of the particulars about the box? Was it a sturdy type box? was the bear secured to the box in any way?
  17. I'm posting this question here as opposed to the business section as I think there is more traffic in this area... I'm trying to come up with a way to package the wax dipped bears that is not only attractive, but also protective. What has been occuring with my current method of packaging (wrapping bear in cello bags) is that the bear's fur is getting marred from handling and also in shipping making for some very unsightly bears! Anyone have any ideas on an alternate way to package these guys so that the bear's fur will not get damaged? Thanks for any ideas...
  18. Michi, Family & friends are what took me down to florida for the open house. I had a pic up of myself and a couple other peeps, but decided to take it down since I didn't have their "ok" to put the pic up on the internet. Some people are "funny" about that and understandably so.... Thanks for the nice compliment
  19. Where are you peeps getting your unrefined shea from? If you have n't tried any yet from Agbanga Karite (Mary Loveless is the distributor), then you really ought to. Wonderful wonderful unrefined shea, very low odor that is not unpleasant at all. Trust me, you won't find nicer unrefined shea butter anywhere! There was a co op going on for this. If you missed out and are interested in a pound, let me know and i'll sell ya some of mine. I have 30 #'s coming!!
  20. I'm pretty sure the liners are sold separately. Thanks for the tip Les. I'll remember that when i get that target mold..
  21. The more oils you add, the softer the end product will be. There are additives you can use to combat the greasiness. Isopropyl Myristate (IPM) and dimethicone are just a couple of them. Some peeps add dry flo or cornstarch, although I have found them to promote firmness as the butter sits. Just play around with it until you get the consistency you are looking for...
  22. It was a pretty successful Open House. Sold a TON of bathbombs and rose petal soaps and bears ran a close second in sales. The guests were friends and acquaintances...
