  1. I tape around the entire perimeter of the mold to seal the sides and bottom together before sliding on the clamps. It's a pita but you gotta do it. I use the blue painters tape but I imagine that masking tape would work.
  2. I'm sitting here with a huge smile on my face and sincere joy in my heart. What a wonderful feeling to know that we helped make a young girl happy. You don't have to say thank you, just imagining McKennas smile is more than enough. But I am doing the happy dance because the goal was met:yay:
  3. Isn't it kinda funny how you can order 10 lbs of fo but the first thing you do is dig through the box looking for that little 1 oz sample:D Or at least I do. There is just something about those freebies that bring out the kid in me. The first time I ordered from Majestic Mountain Sage they sent 10 oval plastic bottles with trigger spray head ( perfect for room spray ) as a free sample and even though they are in Utah and I'm in FL I continue to order from them ( they do have great products and I love their EO's ) Getting a .3 oz sample from a supplier when you spend alot of money would irritate the Pi$$ out of me. Everyone knows that you can't judge an fo until it hits the wax ( or soap )
  4. I'll be looking forward to seeing the pictures:grin2:
  5. Yes I would write something on the invoice and have her sign it. The good thing is that they will already be in an appropiate holder but not everyone knows how to safely burn a candle. Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum.
  6. I use it Palm and it is STRONG! I use 8% as a rule and I ended up down to around 4% Also it's great in CP
  7. I use Peak and love it but I have never smelled the original.
  8. I use a little dab of silicone to glue them down. ( In fact I get my 8 yr. old grandson to do it for me and pay him ) If I didn't the wicks would probably be floppin all over the place. CandleWic has a tealight mold that I'm going to get since so many people are lovin the scented tealights and that has to be way easier.
  9. Soja, I posted some pics in the gallery. Jeana, it can get tricky pouring layers. I watch it like a hawk and once the top starts forming a shell but before the sides start pulling away is when I pour the next layer. Sometimes I wrap a towel around the mold and take one of those little hand held fans and aim it at the top so I have a bit more control. I have had the wax pour down between the candle and the mold and I don't care for the way that looks to much. Doing the tilted ones makes it more difficult also but again I don't care for the way the straight layers look. I've been using this wax for a pretty long time now and sometimes I get bored with just the straight pour so I experiment with different things. You can mix it with a bit of pafaffin and get a starburst effect of crystals on a smooth paraffin surface which I think is pretty cool and I have placed the bottom half of the mold in tepid water for a few minutes and it looks like it's been dipped in glitter. I try a lot of different things. This is just a hobby for me not a business ( I only sell when someone calls me and most of my sales are gift baskets) If you're interested I'll try to dig up some of my experiments and post pics.
  10. Every year I donate a basket to be raffled off with all money donated to the National Cancer Society. This year they wanted a Spa theme so it's mostly B&B stuff scented with Lavender EO, Candles are lavender fo. Unwrapped and all wrapped up
  11. First set fo is "Red Banana" Second set is "Tropical Fruit" I was trying for the rustic look that I see in some of the cool paraffin pics. here.
  12. As soon as my income tax money gets here I plan on going on a buying spree:D I'll let you know how they are.
  13. I would love to be able to afford to use EO's in my palm wax ( or soy ) I'm pretty sure Robin ( one of the mods ) has tried eo's in candles without much success. I have occasionally seen candles that "said" they were made with eo's but I'm not sure If I believe it. Sorry I can't help you.
  14. I go for the pastel yellow/orange also. To choose a color for a fragrance I close my eyes and take a few deep sniffs and whatever color comes to my mind is the one I go with. One of my friends wanted a French Vanilla candle set in a deep dark purple. I asked 10 different people to smell the candles and tell me what they thought it smelled like. All 10 said grape! Even worse the same friend called to tell me she liked them but couldn't remember the name of the fragrance, I told her they were grape and she said whatever they were they smelled really good. Duh, trust me they smelled like French Vanilla. This is just a small example of how color really does play a role in how people perceive the fragrance in a candle.
  15. Groovey Chic, have you tried any of the other oils from soapsupplies.net ?? They are about 1 1/2 hr. from me and I have been thinking about trying some for CP. Years ago I got a 1oz sample of watermelon from Lonestars and once I put it in wax it smelled exactly like Hawaiian Tropic. Weird but true.
  16. The Chemistry Store has a base for babies. http://www.chemistrystore.com/shampoo_concentrates.htm
  17. I layer them alot. I love that you get a very different looks in each candle. One layer will have the crystal/feather look and the next layer may be plain. Sometimes they kinda look like the rustic paraffin candles. I'll try to post some in the gallery tonight for you to see what I'm talking about.
  18. Nice looking soap and candle and a beautiful picture!
  19. I have had several palm pillars do that at the top, particulary the 4" dia. that usually leaves a thicker shell and I'm not sure why only some of them do it??? Instead of wicking down you might try wicking up one size but like Fern said you are pretty close since you have a shell and no blowout. My friend that I give a lot of candles to says she thinks it looks really cool when it splits at the top like that. What size/type wick are you using?
  20. I use the tealight wicks from Candle Science. Size according to which wax and fo I'm using.
  21. Seems like I have read somewhere to try not to exceed 10 drops per lb of wax or you run the risk of that yuk smell in the candle.
  22. I have to say that the second logo alone would make me want to buy the product! Beautiful!!!!!
  23. I have Cherry Almond ( Jergens type) and Green Clover & Aloe ( BBW type ) they are both strong and true. I haven't used them in wax though just B&B. I have been happy with all the products from there ( I hate that they moved from FL to SC though because I could order one day and have it on my porch the next ) Oh and they package the fo's in amber glass bottles.
  24. (1) Olive Squalane Use this one in all recipes and I always substitute part of the water with Aloe juice. (2) Shea Butter and Shea Oil (3) Rose Hip Oil (4) Evening Primrose Oil (5) Jojoba Oil (6) I usually add a small amount of glycerin but not too much because I think it makes it sticky. Often I mix and match different oils and butters to see how I like them and since I don't sell any I have a bit more latitude. I have to always have lotion or mousse on hand because my 15 yr.old slathers herself morning and night. Read up on how each oil/butter benifits the skin and play with recipes until you find one that you love. Also keep in mind that the amount of e-wax, stearic etc. ( emulsifiers) will change the thickness, texture, and lubricity. Making lotions is a lot easier than most people would think and you can start off making small batches to experiment.
