  1. I also use the cake pans to make my chunks for pillar candles. I can either make a chunk candle or weight out what I want to use for a particular type of pillar candle, since I recycle pillar wax that is given to me.
  2. Your right, IN the container is the most concerning, but just a starting point would help. I've maintained notes from previous testing that I could compare, so it's just another experiment
  3. I think its Early American Candle Supplies for the candle company. I never thought to test that way, I've always used the tried and true jar/wick combo, but just out of curiosity I might try it, go from there, already have enough notes from previous testing with my jars and waxes that will add to it
  4. nothing wrong being frugal I wouldn't throw the wax away either, I'd find something to put it in, even if i made tarts with it
  5. I ran across this video for wick testing, never imagined doing this, but looks like I will try and see what happens.
  6. Thought I'd try to make my own, didn't like the process, they just didn't look right and took awhile before I could straighten them out so they'd stay straight, so , I'm just going to use my already waxed wicks. I know that it will cloud the gel, but if its colored, it hasn't made much of a difference for me with respect to the burn. Anyone else had any success with priming your wicks for gel?
  7. You're right, I'll just have to try it, thats on my to do list for the weekend. Although I'll have to warm the room up a notch---
  8. Thats what made me take a look at their site, I noticed the Autumn Harvest with the Lebermuth lable. I've tried about 6 fo's from them, they are great
  9. Oh, I see---I've fiddled with numbers again and added cocoa butter to the mix , it comes back a little more uniform and closer to results I wanted, not perfect, but I think they'll do to start.
  10. The sunflower oil that I'd use is whats at Walmart, would that be considered regular? The High Oleic Sunflower oil may have been what was used in the recipe I found, but they didn't specify, which isn't helpful I can see when dealing with DOS issue.
  11. I fiddled with the numbers all morning to get them to a point that the only one off a little was the iodine, so I think since I'm trying to make a small batch, I'll go ahead and see what happens, particularly with color and swirling I think, who knows whats gonna happen with it
  12. Hi guys, I'm running these numbers through soap calc at 5% sf: 6 oz coconut oil 9oz sunflower oil all the numbers except the iodine seem within acceptable range that soapcalc has listed for soap bar quality. I know the soap will be softer because of the sunflower, I wondered if this would be worth a try. I guess it would take the soap longer to harden also? In my ongoing research, I read that sunflower oil can be used as a substitute for olive oil as a cost cutting measure and at 100%, so I guess it would act the same as OO does?
  13. Still, you got a lot done and had fun doing it
  14. I am looking for a good Honeysuckle, but concentrating on my Gingerbreads now
  15. Love the soaps, so pretty, looks like your hard work paid off
  16. . Right now I don't have money to order extra supplies to play around with. Same here, I have been sitting at the vet's office for 3 weekends in a row and not done yet. so I'm making do with what I just ordered in the past 2 months, that should keep me for awhile.
  17. CB, if you order from Chemistry Store, keep us posted if you get some Lebermuth oils, I personally love them considering the first ones I tried were 10 yrs old and still going strong. Let us know which ones work for you and which ones don't
  18. Tarts!! I decided to try my first tarts. They are in their little clam shells now . Used a 50/50 blend of recycled pillar wax and Peaks gw464, guess I'll let them cure a few days and see what happens.
  19. Great looking soaps, I especially like the color of the Nocturne.
  20. Beautiful soaps Looks like a good day, can't wait to see them cut
  21. I noticed the same thing you did about their fo's, though I havent ordered from them yet, I have used Lebermuth fo, but they were given to me and they were about 10 yrs old in the bottle and were still strong. I have since used the fo's in candles and hope to order from the chemistry store since they offer smaller bottles of fo. I ordered about a year ago from Lebermuth, great oil and great customer service, but at the time they didn't offer samples of fo on their site; so I had to take a chance and order a pounder bottle of marmalade cranberry and I got lucky and loved the oil. I will order a few samples from the chemistry store tho;Lebermuth does offer samples now but I think you have to email and order samples that way.
  22. Belinda, thank you for taking your time to list the fo's, it certainly does give one a lot of options. I 'll be trying a few different suppliers in the next few months tho. I already use Peak for a few favorite fo's, but trying to use what I have on hand before I get more. I have a tendency to order a lot of FO's and by the time I get ready to use them, it maybe a little late
  23. Does anyone have any favorites with this supplier? I'm looking at a few of their best seller list and trouble is, they ALL look good. Mostly looking at their recommendations for soy wax or cp soaps. The Thanksgiving or Christmas scents look good, specifically Aspen Winter---
  24. Isn't that the truth? I was trying to use up old FO's that seem to still be good before I order anymore, however, that didn't work out, I ordered anyway
