  1. twoscentsworth, I had the same problem. With me sitting there I did not really smell my candles and air fresheners. It was a huge 2 day event and most were not busy but it was average for me being my first time there. The lady behind me said she was going to have to talk to organizers because she didn't know if she would be back next year. She was near the door and it was very windy and dust was coming in big time. And then she said to me"No offense but I have allergies and that is also why I want another section.I had no idea.I was sorry because at time smells bother me.I just can't be near anyone with a pipe.I get so nauseas. So I guess my candles etc were overpowering.
  2. I don't need jars yet but passed the section at Wal Mart and they were almost sold out.I think 8 ounce and 4 ounce were and just a few boxes of the 16 ounce mason jars.I do have a place near me and I can get the smooth sided.
  3. Thank You. After going over both sites I have an idea.I did change snickerdoodle to Chestnuts and Brown Sugar.I know food choice but FALL and just what I want. Now that Sweet Potato pie sounds like a winner.Something I haven't tried but I am sure it's good.I did Country Clothesline even though not fall but I like it and also it could be all year.I wanted different things. All the fall ones seem to be for the food category.I like the Christmas and will pick one. I love all the choices and saw some Christmas ones I never thought about. I was very limited on my choice last year.Maybe some of these would sell.
  4. Getting my fall fundraiser order form together and need some insight on some scents. All that I have for my favorite fall scents are the food scents and need some other ideas. Can anyone help please? What are some of your favorites for fall.
  5. I agree you are paying to put things in the store so why pay for advertising. You work 1 or 2 times a month so that is also time spent working there. No I think I would kindly mention it to her.Tell her you think it is a good idea but don't think I will pay for the advertising.Really all the crafter may pay the whole thing and the business owner nothing?take all of crafter's money and advertising paid.
  6. Thank You I thought after talking to the postmaster it would have to be UPS or FedEx.I just have been reading and also hearing about PO shipping.Good for small things but really anything like candles would not be the way.So when I also get the website going it will be UPS.The trucks goes by my several times a day since I live on a state route.Saw one tonight about 9:00 P.M.Very long hours. The closest UPS store is about 20 miles.Thank again.I will get the info for this fundraiser in the mail.As my friend would say"I have to get my ducks in order".
  7. This guy didn't know you or what you sell.I am sure your family member thought the same. How can he say that?I bet he may have thought she was trying to find out some things but she may have brought from him and then get some from you when you start the soap.Gee if he bashed you miles away what does he do with competition close by.Not good at all.He may lose more business than he can imagine if he keeps that up.
  8. I am working on a fundraiser in another state. They pay shipping so I go to the Post Office today and ask about the 70 lb shipping.I still don't get it and can someone PLEASE explain to me because the Postmaster didn't seem to know what I was talking about.Seems like a flat rate for shipping 70 lbs or is it all you can get into one box for 70 lbs. I am confused as I thought about this way of shipping with my website(when I get it going) instead of UPS and now I just don't get it.I live about a mile from the PO so thought it MAY be better but not so sure now:rolleyes2
  9. I have contacted a group from out of state and they are interested in a candle fundraiser and would like info/package.I have that from Candle Cauldron and also will have some of my own info. The thing is I have always thought the groups would have so many selling and work on a goal of so many per member. Also i think if I Newsletter and a order form with that would be another way. This group wants to put it on a their website.Has anyone done this or anyone know how it can be done.I want to help them and also want to start getting my candles out there. So far I have done nothing but craft shows. Have also thought that maybe they could put a order form in their local paper.Seems like these ways would work.I do see where they have things for sale on their site.Just want to know about this and if someone can help with a idea of doing it.Would this be a good way???????????
  10. The dash-is what I did but I finally let it go as the other name was to identical except for that .They got the name the same day as me.Yeah right. So I just put a dash there and got.com. Now I have changed my name completely because I didn't want the 2 companies to be mixed up.My prices are better and kinda some different candles. If people saw that both were .com that dash could have been confusing.
  11. I have been thinking the same thing as I want to change labels.I now just have company info etc but want a logo and also some kinda of design. Will have to do a search for that special design.Labelsnow are simple and just down right plain.I have maybe 200 candles in stock and really hate the idea of changing all of those.Alot of work IMO.Just can't make up my mind.Hope someone can help us.Craft season is here.In one month I have a big show and also one a week after that.
  12. Well I have to drive 25 miles but I guess for that price it is worth it.I have priced tart warmers for almost $5.00 on-line and there isn;t much to them.Did finally find candle warmers at my Wal Mart and the store has been there since March.Well they are $4.92.Also they are in the lamp section. How did they get there?????Not in crafts, candle section etc.Maybe will look around as they may be all over the store. Still waiting for Michaels to put candle warmers on sale. I hope won't be long. They had some candle warmers advertised this week but I don't think what I got last winter.Anyway not that special price of 3 for $9.99.
  13. Have any of you raised the price of candles this year?I have heard wax, jars, scent have gone up and was wondering.I am getting ready for craft season.Really this area has been hit hard as far as economy so not sure a wise decision for here.
  14. I am a color person and the colors come out pretty.I use blocks.Only a couple just can't get just right. Also when I do a craft show I can find the scents so much better. When someone wants Apple Pie I know just where they are.By color and also I start learning after setting up.If someone asked me for Apple pie and my candles were all white I would be everywhere.I wouldn't be able to memorize as easy. All would look the same.I have never had anyone mention "Why do you color"."I prefer my candles to be white".No one has ever said that to me.
  15. The one fresh laundry scent I like is Country Clothesline.Tried Cotton Blossom and almost no scent.Still want to try Fresh Linen.
  16. My basement isn't heated so candles come up in the winter. Not easy but have to do it.I could heat the basement but only with small heaters now and electric is high enough. Our first candles not only did we overdo the FO we left them in the basment to cure.I wondered why they got whitish. So I learned.I am so glad just a couple candles and it was red.If white I would never figured it out the first time we tried candles in the basement. The are sensitive to the cold.In fact when I was at the candle suppy place and a new lady was there she started a conversation asking me how I did and she started out with a pillar and decided not for her.Asked me about containers and I said that is better to start.I then told her be sure if you ever do in a basement bring them up the stairs to cool. That was one great pointer I could give her.I didn't want her to test a bunch at one time and then end up with all of them frosty. So with a heated basement that is the way.Maybe someday we will put heat there but the space heaters are not that great and very expensive to use.My real dream is a place out back of my house where nothing inside taking up space.I like things where they are supposed to be.Not tucked away so I can't see them till craft show time. Also those stairs are killing me taking them up and down.Candles are back down since warmer weather. Won't be long when making new inventory, candles will be back upstairs to cure.
  17. Well I have never had a OPEN HOUSE so will tell some of what one is.Just like a craft show but you have it at your house.Set up all your candle/bath and body and sell them.Have some refreshments and all your company info out in case they don't buy you can give a business card, brochure etc. Also advertise in all the papers and in stores.Around here a few will get together and have a sale in one of the homes. One may have woodcrafts, another AVON, someone candles, some sew vests etc. or just do it yourself.Send out invitations to family, friends and neighbors.I would make a sign a couple days ahead(at your house) when the sale will be.So many will wait till the day.I think wise to do a few days ahead. Offer incenatives.Like if you buy 3 candles get one 1/2 price.Etc.Come up with what you want.Open Houses are popular around holidays so people decorate for that occasion.Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. You could even have a spring one with the springy scents.
  18. I did one of the biggest shows around and it was so so.Busy but not like I would have thought.Kinda off and on.Did a small show for one day and didn't stop.Sold about the same as with the amount of customers. Also it was one day.I like those days.Quick and not there forever. I am taking less this year to the one and what is left over will take to the other unless a certain scent is selling better. Then will make more.I do offer about 60 scents but to tell the truth all sell about the same.I will not do the perfumey ones as they don't sell. The food ones and the fruit ones sell.Creme Brulee and Sugar Cookie were tops.Did find that one lady wanted 4 of one scent.I only had 2.Her house was so big.She wanted a strong smelling candle. She did though settle after smelling all for the pecan pie and grandma's kitchen. She wanted it throughout the whole house but from what I have been told about my candles one does their whole house. The one I sold alot was a small town and I think the people were so supporative of us vendors and the crafters were all over the town at different places.Churches etc,I was at the tail end but it was OK for me.I know some did not do as good.I will say all vendors were in the paper and some of what each had. Also location etc. That was real nice. I only do craft shows but have thought about a OPEN HOUSE
  19. Warning label on bottom.I have my other info on top.Name, phone, e-mail/website,soy candle/w weight, and scent. I sell mostly 8 ounce and people seem to know but I still label 8 ounce soy candle.Depends on my space.Have also put soy candle and just below put the weight.OF course font size can be changed to get it all in. COMPANY PHONE E-MAIL/WEBSITE(if one) 8 OUNCE SOY CANDLE SCENT This is about all that is needed
  20. I have cats and the FO's do not bother them.I do not use EO's. For the person moving to the basement. We do our candles in the basement and the scent travels up through the vents. We make sure the windows are open now as one scent we used was so powerful we had to fumigate the whole house. It was apple pie and was told to triple scent.Wrong.I gagged myself and opened all doors and windows and closed the vents upstairs.I do at times have trouble breathing the scents but really that triple scented was to much and not needed anyway. It was one candle I wasn't able to burn. TO strong. It was our first candle. So you know how that was.>Lesson learned.Never that mistake again.
  21. I haven't been checking this post since mentioning Bell and Traders.Yes I have in the past had a hard time getting to it.It is a certain thing that you have to do.I tried many different way but finally got it.I hope I have it in my favorites but now is posted again.I think it has been almost 8 months since I was on the site but the cardboard air fresheners are reasonable.Want to see if they have some new ones.
  22. I have only tested French Vanilla on the candlewarmer(not burning) and it was awesome.I have only tested 3 scents with the warmer but French Vanilla was the best.I got my warmer at Michaels. Also Pecan pie was strong.Forget Sunflower.I could not smell that one but can with burning it.
  23. Bell and Company traders. Also what do you do without smudging.Spritz the cardboard shapes with FO.I would think it would be spotty.I think I will put mine in the cello and also name of company etc.Not on the air freshener itself. They are reasonable and would make money if sold for only $1 or $2.00.
  24. I'm also waiting for the candle warmers to go on sale again.Would like a few more to sell with my wickless candles. Haven't been keeping up with the paper lately.
