I was thinking of trying a few simple B&B items to give as Christmas gifts to family this year. (Along with candles). I looked through my candle FO's and I have quite a few that are skin safe. I was wondering if there are any ingrediants that I should stay away from for my PG sister... I was thinking of trying scented Bath Salts, M&P Soap and possibly room/linen spray. (And Carpet Freshener). I know there are certain EO's that shouldn't be used, but are skin safe FO's ok? Thanks!

I spent X amount of time yesterday fixing the cutest little christmas tree to hang little tiny bags on (favour bags with 2 tealights in them). And making cute little snowmen price signs. Then my BF came home and said "Don't you think it's too early for Christmas?":o I have a craft show this coming Saturday. What do you think? Christmas stuff is out already at the dollar store. We've had snow already that's stuck to the ground (it melted after 2 days) Thanksgiving (Canada) and Halloween are over, Christmas is our next holiday...

This is advice about craft shows in general. I just wanted to say to all those new people out there... just do it! Don't be afraid to try it. Start small if you're not sure. Another piece of advice (which I am still struggling with:rolleyes2) is that if you try a show and don't do well, then sign up again the next year hoping it will be better and it's not... then for crying out loud don't do it again. It's just a waste of time, energy and money. I get stuck in that rut and make "excuses" or try to think of ways to do better. But sometimes, some shows just aren't good (for your type of stuff) PERIOD.

Yeah, I'm always working on something at the last minute. Working late the night before a show and stressing about things. And you know what? Whenever I do that, I never sell any of what I worked on! I'm learning to let it go. The first shows are always the hardest and the most exciting. Don't sell yourself short. Sometimes I've had better luck at smaller shows. You never know. After hearing from my SIL that everyone from her work loves my candles, I've decided to do a candle party/open house. I don't want anything too formal, or worry about getting more bookings or hostess discounts. I would rather give candles away just for having them there, or if they buy X amount of stuff. But I don't want to go overboard. How much would be good? Keep in mind, these are gals who don't have a lot of money but would love to treat themselves now and then. Also they might be thinking of Christmas gifts. I'll be selling tarts, votives, tealights, 8oz jars, tart burners, votive holders & air fresheners. Should I say get a free votive if you spend more than $20? Get a free jar if you spend more than $50?

All I can say is that it's a lot of work for a little money. :rolleyes2 I was set up at a county fair (has rides, horse stuff, cows, crafts, etc). It started Thursday and went to Sunday night. In total, we were at our booth 41 hours. By the time we paid our booth fees, gas, and misc spending (food, crafts etc!) there isn't a lot left over. I made money, just not what I wanted. This was my second year doing the fair and I guess alot of other vendors didn't do as well this year. I don't think I'll do it again, I've decided to stick to shorter one day shows from now on. Oh, BTW, my candles smelled great, but not too strong. I was worried it would overpower the building but it was fine.

Whoa! This barn is full of arts and crafts only! There's no way I'd set up beside animals all day long! What I'm worried about is with all of us crafters shoved in there with hot temperatures, a tin roof and no windows, that my candles might smell really strong.

Has anyone ever had any trouble with their candles smelling TOO strong? I've signed up to sell candles at a local county fair. I was there last year but had my own stall (yes, an old horse stall!). This year I'm in the big barn and it gets really hot and stuffy in there. I'm afraid that after 4 days of strong candles scents, everyone will hate me! :undecided

Wohoo! First post in new forum. I disappeared for about 2 months. I had a summer job working at a camp for disabled kids where I lived out in the woods away from civilization. Now I'm back and I have 3 days to boost my inventory to get ready for a show that starts Thursday, ends Sunday! Yes, I am freaking out.
