  1. I have a 6 inch tall jar that has a diameter of 3.5 inches. No matter what wick/wax/oil I use it starts flickering and sooting towards the bottom half. I would can this jar (lol) but it is for a wholesale customer that INSISTS on this jar. She doesn't care if it soots a little at the last half. She says it is still way better than any other brand she carries. BUT I CARE! Is there any wick out there that doesn't require as much oxygen to burn? I know it is sooting and flickering due to the amount of oxygen, or lack there of. I have not tried a square braid yet, but these jars hold alot of wax and it is expensive to test, so if anyone has tried wicking a taller than wide jar such as the status, could you suggest a wick that works toward the last half? Thanks!
  2. I ordered 3 pallets of glassware and it wasn't to bad. $95 per pallet to Ohio......but then on the invoice they charged me like $195 per pallet! I called and let them know about that and a few other mistakes on the invoice. It has been several weeks. I guess I better check again to see if they actually did take the extra amounts back off my card. They are very nice though, just takes them a while to get it right!
  3. Ya, that sale was VERY vague. I searched all over the site for more info. put wax in my cart, etc. I would have called but it was in the wee hours of the morning. I finally gave up and forgot all about it. I will have to call today, I guess.
  4. Mine trips the breaker if I have it on the same circuit as the frige and heater, so I have to run a cord from a different circuit, then I can have all running at the same time. To many appliances running will usually do that.Mine just bit the dust last fall, so I have to get it looked at too. I've been just using my turkey fryer and presto pot since then. I will let you know if I find a cheaper route to getting a new unit.
  5. Kidding aside..(about the polar thing) Lonestar does have some gel safe food scents that you are looking for.
  6. Any bacteria in the sea water would be killed because high concentrations of salt is a natural sanitizer. Just google it. Back in the day they used salt to preserve meat (hams etc.) when they didn't have freezers....and as far as distilled being "better" , all that is is the steam from boiled water. That removes not only impurities, but valuable minerals that would be good for the body. So I would say, wha the heck. Try a batch. You don't have to sell it. Even if you did, I am SURE there are more dangerous things people are bathing with!
  7. I am testing a 70soy/30paraffin blend. I used to use (many, many years ago) a straight soy (I think it was 415) in this wide mouth mason with a 1212. Now, I am just playing around and wanted to see if the adding of paraffin would make it easier to burn -thus wicking down. I am not finding that to be true though. This 4630 must have a high melt point similar to the 415 because the wicking seems to be the same. Oh well, tis the season to play!
  8. How strange....the 1212 and 1312 even FEEL bigger. Idk, I have a 126 in now and I think I need to bump it up. It has been 4 hours on the 2nd burn and still not a full mp. I will try 2 more test burns but even if it works I will need a next size up for my wicker uppers. Hmmm, what to do?
  9. I have recently been testing the HTP's and went to the Wicks Unlimited website for more info about these wicks. It says that the HTP 126 produces a higher flame and larger mp than the 1212 and 1312. Does anyone find this to be true in their testing? I have always found the 1212 and 1312 to be hotter than the 126. Why then, do they (WU) list them in size order this way? Doesn't make sense to me
  10. I didn't realize there were NON polar/ BY polar fragrances!
  11. Oh.....ok! Boy, that isn't very user friendly. If you are searching you would never find it. Thx!
  12. They must have discontinued them....I can't find them on the website.
  13. "Other than COG, if it isn't going to bring in dollars don't do it" I am with ya there! Believe me, I didn't get to this point by spending carelessly. I saved everything I made from this business for 7 years. Sure, some $$ went to advertising, but I do my homework before I spend a dime. I am the biggest tight- "bleep" that ever was!
  14. They accepted the offer! OMG I can't believe it. Finally I can move out of the garage, basement, kitchen....and any other little cubby hole I have my supplies stashed. My family can have their house back. On the flip side, I have to get out of my pj's and drive 2 miles to get products made. Maybe I will be more productive this way. No more jumping in the pool while wax is cooling or getting on here while my wax is melting. I have to make some sacrifices, but I think it will be worth it. Next step, patiently wait 30 days for possession.
  15. "Vengeance is mine says the Lord" is exactly what I have lived by from this whole experience. I have given it up to Him, so I could move on. I have made an offer on a property (low balled it) and have been waiting to hear back. If I get it fine, if not then it wasn't meant to be. It has been on the market for 13 months so I figured maybe they will come down in price. I had to really think long and hard about the offer though cause I didn't want to make the mistake of "I'll show them..." kind of thing. I had to make it a wise business decision. My husband supports me with the decision, so that is very important to me. I wish I had made the decision to make an offer sooner though, cause if I do get it it'll be 30 days before possession and that'll be getting into busy season for me. I want to be settled in sooner. Oh well, we'll see. One step at a time.
  16. Thanks for the encouragement everyone! It has taken several months, but the depression and anger are subsiding. I am gearing up for busy season, just like before. I figure I better just keep working away cause I don't want to be caught off guard this fall. I have many new ideas and signed up for more craft shows than I have ever done. I am changing a few jars for a slightly new look, but I am KEEPING my mason that they tried to impersonate. I am still a little unsettled about how it will affect my business this fall. I usually can figure out about how many jars, cases of wax etc. I need for the season. So, I am purchasing like usual, and trying not to worry. I have just 3 months before the crazy season begins again so I am focusing on that! :smiley2: PS: I had a few beers one night and I did tell a few friends about what happened. It is really hard not to bad mouth them when what they did was wrong and hurtful, but I told them to keep shopping there (and they do, they have told me they like it because I created such a nice atmosphere and they haven't changed a thing- except the candles, lol) because it was something going on with my boss and really has nothing to do with customers. I asked them not to spread talk around town too. I trust them, they have been my friends for over 23 years.
  17. Yep, same treatment here. They wouldn't give me the price of the samples they gave me (took a couple months to get them) then when I tested one and liked it, I called and asked the price and it was like they pulled the number out of a hat. $20 something per pound....well idk but I can get better service and prices elsewhere. So what other manufacturers are some of you using?
  18. Just thought I'd update. I bought a couple of Swans Creek candles to try out the competition. Hope it's nobody on here.....They burn very dangerously HOT! You can't tell by the pic much, but I would say it is wicked up about 3 sizes to high. The scent throw was so-so. It had a mp of about an inch deep in one hour. I just don't understand how they can sell a candle like that. I was actually so scared of it burning, I had to put it out after about 2 hours. The mushroom got ENORMOUS! Never saw anything like it. I tell ya, I could GUESS at a better wicking than that. Obviously they don't test their wicking. So I have that going for me. Mine burn slow and steady. Hopefully, people will appreciate the way mine burn and stick with me.
  19. njcandles, please tell us ALL how the Apple Jack & Orange Peel does in wax! :smiley2:
  20. I feel your pain, literally! I have had this in the past. I think it is a form of Carpel Tunnel JMO, but it seems to have the same symptoms. I pour 6lb pots and after several weeks pouring I do have to take it easy. I am not a very strong person so all the weight goes into my wrist and hand. Hope you get better soon!
  21. I think if you wick down a size with the candle on the right you will loose some of your H/T. Never hurts to try though!
  22. Check your Walmart. We have purchased them there.
  23. "this business" for me is candles....bath and body would be different in terms of steady. I would say bath and body products have a better chance of being steady year round. Dry skin in the harsh winter months can pull you right through the summer months with all the tanning and pool chemicals. Candles are pretty seasonal. Sept. thru Christmas I am swamped and then it drops off to almost nill from March on. This is ok with me because we have so much yard work to do and a cottage to relax at so those months of "quite time" work for me! However, now that I am not working another job outside of candles a steady trickle during the warm months would be welcome.
  24. Will the medum lids from Libbey fit this jar?
