  1. The glass is not to hot to hold even after 4 hours, and there is at least 1/8 inch, but I do get that chemical smell while burning. Just got finished sending out a large order, so today is clean up and play day! Going to wick DOWN see how that goes. Hopefully I will have a smaller wick, even if it is waxed. Probably have some HTP (waxed) in a smaller size.
  2. I have not even started to add fragrance. I have tried the spooled (unwaxed) zinc. It sounds like I am over wicking. I am trying to get the melt pool as close to the edge of the glass as I can in the 4 hour burn. Even though it doesn't look like a full mp, I notice that the gel is definately going down (or being consumed) because I can see where the gel used to be. So I will try wicking down a size or two. Thanks so much for the help!
  3. Bernadette, what type wicks are you using? Maybe part of my problem is the glass shape. It is smaller at the top and wider in the middle. I think if I tried a straight sided jar, it may not be as bad. Second question: Bernadette, is your jar staight sided?
  4. That is why I figured many people stopped making gel candles. I will have to try the wicks you suggested. So far, I have only tried the zincs since that is what I have read works the best....we will just have to see about that!
  5. You can probably find them.......in China! Alot of glass is made there.
  6. Tea Tree Oil will definately keep the bugs away too! If I know I am going to be outside I shower with Tea Tree Oil soap and don't get bit up! I even put it in my lotion for a bug repellent. It will be fine in tarts as well....just as other EO's are.
  7. Wow! At $32 bucks a pound they better be good! The scents sound very interesting tho.
  8. Is there such a thing? I have been playing around with gel lately and maybe I'm spoiled with the way soy burns, but I can't get these gel candles to burn clean. If I wick down, they tunnel. I have heard zincs are good in this wax so that is what I have been using. I tried the HD and, think maybe the LD would burn easier, tried that but still the sooting continues! I have not even BEGUN to add scent yet. Any suggestions?
  9. I usually don't do spring shows because they are SO much work for the $$. But, I decided to do one last weekend and for the amount of work, it proved to be true again. I sold tons of tarts, but only a couple of candles. I won't be doing anymore spring shows, unless I have an open house so I don't have to lug all that stuff around. Loading, unloading, set up, tear down, load up, drive home, unload again, and in my case, set up in shop again.....just not worth it.
  10. Darn it, I bought a bunch of 1ozers and I have yet to get them in wax! Time is running out for me to test and order before the sale ends!
  11. Tea Tree Oil is what gives Pine sol that scent.....
  12. I smell berries and a touch (very slight) of mint. Not sure where the vanilla and musk come from. I don't smell any of the other notes in the description. To me it smells very, very similar to White Zinfendel (NG) so that is where I came up with the "wine".
  13. Oh goodness, a year and 2 weeks went by and this got dug up again.....lol
  14. I wanted to get away from the "snow" in the name so I could use it year round. Do you think Sparkling Wine would be fitting?
  15. I have about 12lbs. so I need to use this thoughout the year. Anyone have any ideas?
  16. Got that same email today! I called the number in the email (which I don't understand how or why that would be in the email) to the BBB and there is a recorded message about this email being a scam. Strange they are getting ahold of us candlemakers again!
  17. That is interesting. Thank you. I will stop by a Lowes on Friday and pick some up!
  18. Thanks Vicki, Ok I will get some different mineral oil. Will it actually say "Food Grade" on it? Or how do we know it is food grade?
  19. Yep, I know. Confusing! That is why I just want to send a small sample somewhere and have the professionals do it. Anyone have any info on this? Thx
  20. I use the large commercial melters mainly but LOVE my Presto for testing and small pours. I have used this Presto for over 8 years now and never had any problem with the coating chipping off like some others have had. I was just wondering where to get a replacement when this one dies. The ones at Walmart now are smaller than mine that I bought 8 years ago....don't they make this size anymore?
  21. Man, you pour fast! I'd have sinkholes, cracks and crators if I did that! I poured all day today and yet it was fun watching someone else pour! Thanks
  22. Dana- in the admin area for orders it tells me exactly what the customer put in their cart and where they came from if they clicked on a link to get to my store. I have a least a couple of people from craftserver a month visit my site. I think it's neat and glad they are interested enough to vist and look around. Wish they bought something though. Hehe! ;-) Thanks! I will try to see if I can do that as well. Kinda interesting to see where they come from!
  23. Just wondering...how do you know they are from this site?
  24. Ok, so I went to the drug store and bought the mineral oil....the laxative type, thinking it MUST be food grade if you are suppossed to digest this stuff....then I read on AH/RE site that it can't be the laxative type mineral oil to test for polarity. It seemed to mix well but could I see fine lines? I can't trust my judgement. So, since I have TONS of fo's and one in particular I want to use is there a place to send fo's for FP and Polarity? I want to know for sure if my oil is gel safe!
  25. I only do a couple of shows for that reason.....they are exhausting! I bring EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink. My display looks very nice, but I am always the last one out of there because I bring so much! Everyone seems to help me though cause they feel sorry for me, lol. I kinda wish I had someone with me, but I never have. Always do it alone, but I do this whole business alone. I like it that I don't have to pay for an employee, but it is overwhelming sometimes. My husband has had a little more interest lately and has been helping me get set up at my new location with the electricity and cosmetic (I always want to make everything cute, lol) stuff, but shows are my baby. He would never sit there all day like I see some husbands. I don't need him to sit though, just load and unload!
