  1. In the long run finding a supplier you can drive to will save you a lot on shipping. You'll soon find out it's just not wax you'll need...the list goes on and on as you'll want to dabble more. Paraffin is a good start as I did 100% soy first and now that I'm playing around with soy blends and paraffin, it's much easier to get the results I was looking for. Good luck!
  2. I haven't made this scent but I have coconut vanilla in a huge 3-wick and it's still subtle...just not a strong scent at all. I think some scents are lighter than others and not much you can do about it unless you find that scent through a different supplier that has it stronger overall. That's why we test out different scents and try to find what works for us. I'm on the hunt for that scent but want a stronger throw.
  3. For the candles I make it does seem to make a difference especially ones that I double wick which obviously is a larger diameter. My experience has been (with this particular wax) is larger melt pool = larger scent throw. I'm testing a new mottle wax and the scent throw is strong even in votives so a lot depends on the type of wax too I'm sure. Another way to look at it is when you pour in your presto pot that is a huge diameter of melted wax and it fills your entire house typically.
  4. She seems nice by her emails...glad to hear the positive feedback on them and their molds. I ended up placing a 2nd order and she just tacked it onto the existing one and didn't charge additional shipping...that was nice. I can't wait...I'm ready to play!!!
  5. I do nothing to make sure it's in place...guess I'm lazy . Never had an issue thus far.
  6. I just ordered from http://www.flexiblemolds.com/ . They seemed to have the best pricing/quality with the variety I was looking for. Thx!
  7. Ditto...GL and Peaks are the only 2 suppliers for FO that I order from now. I like GL's unique selection and most of Peaks I love as well.
  8. How do you get layered rustics without sloshing around too much to cover up the next layer?
  9. That's sooo aggravating. I've made it a habit now to crimp my wicks everytime just so it won't happen. I don't know if that is a supplier thing because I've had that happen with various suppliers. If you crimp everytime all should be good .
  10. Just poured Indonesian Teak...later will pour Rain & Moutain Sage (GL's fo). Taking it as a house warming gift this weekend when I visit my sis & BIL.
  11. Thanks Bruce for the differences in wicks...I poured this pillar at GL's gathering this past weekend which was spur of the moment. I'll try going down a size in zinc and see but already need to place an order at Peaks so will add the fb and sb wicks to it. Thx!
  12. Thx Tricia...have you posted any pics of how it looks while burning? Would like to see! I'll have to test more when I get back from vacation...will be gone a week.
  13. Bruce, I'm making 3-wicks for my own personal use and don't foresee me needing more than one mold but you never know, thanks though. I'm touchy because I get frustrated on this board at times when ppl post questions and get talked down to for no apparent reason. I just got a PM from someone else in search of wicks for the same mold. If I figure it all out I'll be sure to share...just the nice thing to do. In the meantime here's a pic of my first 5hr. burn with 51z's...looks too close to the sides. Comments?
  14. I've only made containers and votives. New to the world of pillars so obviously don't know what kind of wicks to use that's why I asked Bruce. I have been researching to find out what to use and haven't come up with much on here. I don't post questions unless I've searched on here first. Not sure why a local supplier would recommend them if they're only for containers. Thanks to others for your helpful replies :~).
  15. Thx. Anyone try using 51z's?...all i have is 7" to test with but a local supplier carries 10". Thoughts?
  16. Ok, i'll search online for these...never heard of them. Thx.
  17. I use GL's 70/30 and love it. No jump lines either. I single wick but using the 7.5oz. status jar. Thinking about testing other wicks in it but other than that it has been a great wax for me!
  18. I've made a 3-wick 6"x6.5" pillar out of a mottling pillar wax. Can anyone give me a start on what to wick it with...series/size? TIA!
  19. Having the same issue...using eco 4s for my status jars and not getting a FMP since the weather change, grrrr. I'm in TX.
  20. Haha...was thinking the same thing...I understand Henry and that's why I went to GL's 70/30 and couldn't be happier with appearance...come over to the dark side and enjoy your libbey status jar once again .
  21. That seems to be the consensus...FO causing the problem. Brenda said it was a FO issue too but wanted to get more feedback from others before I ruled out anything else. Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated!!
  22. I posted this on GL's board as well and heard back from admin but wanted to also get some feedback here as well...the smart gal I am thought if I raised my FO I could get a little bit better throw in all my candles. Well now I'm noticing I'm not getting a FMP like I was before with 1/2 the FO added (went from a 6% to a 12% load because GL's 70/30 will hold that amount). The wick isn't drowning out but if defintely is working hard and not reaching the sides like before. I did change batches of wax at the same time too...in your opinion could it be a new batch of wax causing the issue or is it obvious that it's the increased fragrance load? TIA!
