  1. I poured the cappuccino hazelnut yesterday and test burning today more for wick size but if anyone is looking for a strong coffee scent this is it. It's not sweet but strong coffee. Hubby thought it smelled like when you walked into a 7-11 or Starbucks. Even though I'm a big time coffee lover I don't think I'd enjoy having my home smelling like strong brewed coffee. For you pros do strong coffee scents sell well?
  2. Used my 40% off for a 24 count mini-muffin tin to make tarts...cost $5, what a deal!
  3. Dang...and I just ordered from them...didn't realize a lot of you were having issues with their FO. Which is interesting because in her description she claims on certain ones it throws great in soy and paraffin. Anyone using GL's 70/30 with her oils and having good luck? I didn't order any oils on the OP (original poster's) list...mine were a lot heavier oils I think.
  4. Grrr...some how I missed that...will know for next time .
  5. Thanks Angela. I placed an order with Peak and JS today...got the clean cotton from Peak for her...that's a Yankee dup right? This will be my first order from JS...got vanilla buttercream crunch, toffee macchiato, brown sugar pecan, buttercream hazelnut extradordinaire, caramel sugar crunch and caramel cinnamon latte...took advantage of the $45 for 6/8oz. special...good deal! Hoping she'll put in a sample (I asked, lol) of chestnuts & brown sugar, vanilla maple supreme, maple pecan, or cinnamon french toast. I didn't realize 4oz. was the smallest she carried...you have to be pretty committed to ordering from them. Between the two I spent $110, ouch!!!
  6. Even though I like zinc wicks because they are self trimming, I don't get as good as a throw with it like I do with eco, lx, rrd & cdrs...all throw much better for me than zinc in pure soy. I haven't tried the zinc in the 70/30 soy blend so not sure if it would do better there.
  7. Thank you...I have a sample of WT&G...may see how she likes it plus send her this list and see what she thinks she might enjoy. I appreciate it.
  8. I don't know if this is what you're looking for or not...just came acrossed it while browsing the site, http://www.peakcandle.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PCMS&Product_Code=PGM-whiteblock&Category_Code=CLR
  9. I have someone who likes the following: "floral, aroma-therapy and 'fresh' (i.e.: ocean, wind, sky, etc.) scents." Since these are not typically what I like does anyone have any suggestions from Peak's list? I'm going to place an order soon and wanted to try a sample or two in this catagory. TIA!!
  10. \I must of gotten the crappy version ...had great hot throw though!
  11. I've tried 1 lb. sample and that was my experience but if you've used it more than that I'm sure you were able to tweak where it worked for you.
  12. Woohoo...time to order again! What do you guys think of Peak's Vanilla Hazelnut? First does it have a yummy strong throw in a soy blend? Second do you think I could get away with not buying French Vanilla and use this as a replacment for people who like F.V.?
  13. 444 has great cold/hot throw when you let it cure for at least a week. Peak's cinn. buns did great in it. Very rough tops when wax hardens and frosting develops after each burn for me. No wet spots though. Haven't tried 415 so can't say. If I went back to 100% soy I would do it in tin cans...you can get great cold/hot throw if you let them cure properly...just seem to be ugly after burning.
  14. I've used C3 as well. I've now switched to a soy blend. I did not get any wet spots with C3. That was probably the best part about this wax. I didn't get frosting until I burned it and when it cooled I would get frosting around the melt pool line. Smooth tops initially until it burned and cooled...then it would be lumpy (produced tiny bubbles while wax was melted). I agree about the scent throw...2wks for max throw. I'm using my left over C3 for tarts. What wax are you using and why do you want to switch?
  15. I only have experience with the C3 wax and recently pulled out a 2wk old poured container of it with creme brulee scent...it was so much stronger than it was when I tested it after a week curing. Also I started testing my 8oz container in my master bath and master bedroom which made a huge difference too. I'm in the same situation, C3 is local for me. I have some still and will probably use it for tarts. I'm switching over to a soy blend now mainly because of the appearance & throw issues with soy.
  16. This has been around a while as I bought that same boat and pebbles/wicks over 3yrs. ago. I never lit it because it was so fragrant on its own and lasted a long time.
  17. I poured GL's 70/30 3 days ago and burned today just to test wick size (made a dup and saving it to cure longer) and let me tell you I'm highly impressed with the hot throw of this wax. So far it wins over 100% soy waxes that I've tried. I know that's not comparing apples to apples but if you're looking for a strong hot throw I'm glad to tell you this is one of them. I had no issues with frosting, sink holes, wet spots or ugly tops...top was absolutely perfect for me. I think now it's going to be too hard to go back to 100% soy after dealing with frosting, bubbles, wet spots, and especially cold/hot throw issues. GL is in driving distance for me too, woohoo!
  18. Awe, man...why did I have to see that...those are awesome!
  19. Just fyi I had a metro container crack just on the bottom from using a warmer from Garden Ridge. I was trying to melt the left over wax & pop out wick to reuse for my test candles. It didn't crack inside, just the foot of it. Thought I'd pass that along.
  20. Update: Here's a pic after 4hrs. of burning, http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i170/workingmomathome/P8040208.jpg FMP in approx. 2.5hrs. Pretty deep mp & big mushroom but I'm thinking it's going to be like that for a while until it hits the larger diameter of the jar. Total burn time is approx. 20hrs.
  21. I just mentioned this on the soy thread....I had made candles out of waxes C3, GB444 and GB402. I wasn't all that happy with their hot throws after a week cure time. I brought out the C3 one after 2+wks. of curing just to get rid of it and had a lot more powerful hot throw than the first testing of it. I pulled out the others to see if the same thing was happening and sure enough very fragrant like a candle should be. So even after the first burn they cured longer and better performers for me...yippee!
  22. I've only been at this a few weeks now but wanted to share I'm experiencing way better hot throw on waxes, C3, 444 and 402. I have a C3 candle I made 2+ wks. ago and I put to the side because it wasn't performing a hot throw well at all after a week cure time. Lit it today just to get rid of it and whoa, it's overpowering my bedroom! I have a few others I put to the side and brought those out and extremely pleased to see they're throwing so much better. For those of you that are not experiencing a great hot throw try letting them cure longer than a week and see if that helps.
  23. Great, I'm glad it's helping! I'm axious to to see what will happen too. I did burn a 3rd time for approx. 3hrs. (don't have my notes in front of me) last night...it was close to a full melt pool. I'll be able to burn again once I get home from cleaning & will update!
