  1. Anyone that tries to cut corners on testing wicks and burning is a fire hazard waiting to happen! Test burning is the most important issue in candlemaking! If you are trying to find a way to get around testing because it takes to long, you shouldn't be making candles! These types of people give all of us candlemakers a bad name!!! UGH..this pee's me off!
  2. If you already have red colors, then do a dark orange color...or green, or heck go pink, go yellow, go purple..........go whatever the heck color you want to go with! Its not that hard to come up with a color.....and if it is to hard, then don't color it at all!!!!
  3. I honestly don't believe its so much the type of wax your using as it is the quality of fo that you use...yes there are scents that won't throw in soy, but knock your socks off in paraffin, and vice versa, but when someone says 'soy is waaayyyyy better' for scent throw I think they have possibly been mislead in the 'soy arena'....a scent that is so over powering strong, is going to be that way in any type of wax basically, its the fo! The FO companies realize candlemakers are demanding strong strong oils...so this is what they are putting out there, the competition for them is huge. Soy has some good qualities, Its what I use, but I have also found, because of its 'picky' nature, we are limited to certain oils that throw, where as paraffin can throw almost anything!! LOL...So to actually state one type of wax is superior over the other is really being narrow minded, in my opinion!
  4. I use soy, and had 0 luck with JS.....her oils just wouldn't throw for me! If you do searches on the 'popular' candle boards you will find alot of soy users who DIDN'T have any luck with JS's scents. Now FOH oils will knock your socks off in soy....awesome oils, excellant customer service..you can not go wrong ordering from FOH, on her site she also lets you know how the oils work in soy.....If you have to choose between the two places, definitely go with FOH!
  5. I tested this one also, and I swear its not the same one everyone keeps raving about. I get a weak scent, certainly not spicy, and do you guys think it has a food smell, cuz I don't get that either. The other new one there, butter rum allspice smells good, but this brown sugar one just isn't there for me....I don't know what it is.....I'm bummed out since every says its so dang strong. Not the sample I got!! Have a great day!
  6. The bottom of this candle says "Soy Basics" which aka is Enchanted Lights which is also Bean Pod...says the thing about the 100% stabalized soy etc...so its the same company, same candles...Jan, you made me curious so I got the pliers out and pulled out the rest of the wick and took it apart...and I stand corrected....its paper in the middle of the wick...got me confused when it was burning and I noticed a wirey looking piece that stuck up in the wick. Just a very tightly rolled paper!! I find it funny that these candles are being sold in heavy equipment dealerships.....made (labeled) just for John Deere..what do we have to compete against next!!! LOL
  7. Yes, I have a bean pod candle...its the cinnamon roll in the 4.5 oz jar. DH bought it so I could compare, and he bought it at the local John Deere dealer, and it even has a John deere logo on the label..hmm..interesting, anyway, they use zinc wicks, and I have burned it a few times and am not impressed at all. It has never burned to a full melt pool, there is major hang up all the way around the jar so its tunneling. Also the wick is so short, there is barely any flame which eventually just burns itself out! Now, I have no problem giving praise when praise is due, whether its a big company, or a small one...but this candle was disappointing. The scent is pretty good, with a pretty good throw when it is burning...but the look of this candle is pretty nasty! This is just my opinion on their candle that I have burned! Have a great day!
  8. This is a great help so we don't buy duplicates...I bought a pound of NG's Frsh Linen and 8 oz of FOH's Clean sheets and they are the exact same scent......no difference what so ever..bummed me out because I could have bought a different oil from one place or the other..don't need the same scent from two different suppliers...now I have all this oil, and I don't even care for the scent...maybe I am just using to much oil with it...I use 1 oz pp in soywax..does anyone else cut back on this oil...also, I had ordered Northern Star?? oil from SFS and it was an apple jack and peel scent....another disappointment..but I have found so many other wonderful oils from FOH, NG, BCN, AH/RE that I shouldn't complain to much! Hope this helps......Have a great day!
