  1. I test my wicks the same too-- I line up a batch of about six to eight at a time to test. For fragrances I love to test in a small wide mouthed jar so I get a nice wide melt pool to fill the room.
  2. Pretty candle! What scent is it? BTW-- I like to do a test burn for hours too. I just want to see how well it does burning all the way down non stop so to speak. That way I get an idea of how it will burn if my customers do the same (which they do!)
  3. I love your site! Pics are very nice and site is put together nice too. I have to agree with some others about the music and the rooster. I found them too distracting. Sorry! Other than that a big thumbs up!!!!
  4. Yup! Sickening isn't it! But I have a rule-- no more than 20 regular year round scents and then I TRY to keep my seasonal down to no more than 15. But if you are just starting you might just try a few to start and see how they sell then add from there.
  5. Using all the helpful tips you peeps gave me I have updated my site. I think it looks a whole lot more interesting and hopefully will grab the eye more. go to www.candalisacandles.com Thank you! BTW--- anything you want to add to improve it I will appreciate. I got some really good input from you all. Funkymonkey-- how does that pic look now?:smiley2:
  6. Oooooooooooh!! So pretty!!:smiley2:
  7. Yes! Do tell! I have only seen those custom made tea light molds or the standard metal/plastic molds. I want to pour my tea lights seperately from those metal/plastic molds cause I tend to pour wax all over the place and miss the holder:undecided Those look like they would work.
  8. Tried to PM you but got a message saying I couldn't!:undecided
  9. I don't know if this will help you but my local SBA gives classes on setting up quickbooks. You might check with your regional SBA office and ask. I have used my local SBA for learning the business end of starting up. They have really been a huge help and I wouldn't have been able to do it without them.
  10. Thanks to everyone for looking and offering some very useful advice. I put a list together of things I want fixed and your tips are all on them. Funkymonkey-- I will check with my designer to have the pic looked at. Since I paid for the store design I think they should fix that for me. If you say that can be done then that will give me some leverage in dealing with them. But so far they have been able to accommodate me when I ask for something. The most important thing to me was having a simplified site with a contemporary feel and good navigation throughout.
  11. The percentage rate and transaction fee sounds about average. The $5 a month is pretty low. If thats all you found a pretty good deal. Don't know about Citadel cause I never banked with them before. The best thing to do is shop around to see what other banks offer. I always check with a minimum of at least three. That's just to get an average. I also want to know what its like to do business with a bank cause you will have to deal with them. If they are difficult to reach or not responsive to your inquiries, etc. I would drop em fast.
  12. My first show starts weekend after next. They had over 70,000 attend last year so I'm hoping I can get some good money! I made over 1200 candles so I hope a sell a couple! Then I have two more in Sept then two each month thru the end of the year. This is my first year doing this. And the biggest thing I worry about is my bladder holding out!!
  13. I had wondered about that too. I understand the size difference and how it affects the candle burning-- but what do all 3 numbers mean?!!
  14. I can change the code to move the pic up to the top. But then it changes the pic size and I would rather have the larger size. Again, its a store design thing. You have a certain amount of choices in loading pics and text, etc.
  15. I agree-- however the thumbnail pics are just that and are for clicking on to the item page where you will have another pic you can click on to enlarge. All the pics except for the thumbnails you can click on to get a larger view for details. Thats the way the store is designed so I don't have a choice of making a pic any size I want. Just try clicking on a pic and you'll see.
  16. My webstore is www.candalisacandles.com Please visit and offer your critique on what you find. I am still trying to put the finishing touches and such on it and also working out the glitches on it. So its a rough cut for now. I want to have it up and running by the end of next week cause thats when my craft shows start. All my promo materials; signs, brochures, flyers, business cards, etc. have the site addy on them I need it working by then. So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Candace
  17. I use Peak's clean cotton. Smells just like downy. It reminds me of wash day.
  18. Sounds like you've got some good strategy already. It does take time. I don't know how long you have been selling but always promote your products when you sell with flyers, bus. cards., etc. I love New Orleans. I used to live not to far in Baton Rouge and go into New Orleans all the time. Its going to take time locally so I would promote my website as much as possible. Do you have large signs to hang up at your shows that show your web addy in large letters? Make sure your website is on everything, all your promotional literature. Does your website have bread crumbs and META tags?
  19. Yeah. I would be very wary about these people that demand a space without payment or appl form. I'm thinking deadbeats, no-shows., etc.
  20. Most of my craft shows I do state on the application that they will not hold a space without a check/payment included with it. I think (at the very least) I would place some kind of deadline for payment if you want to hold a place. HTH
  21. I'm gonna try that. I have been wanting to sell tart warmers to go with my melts and water bowls for my floating candles..... and maybe some votive holders..... and maybe........
  22. I was thinking the same. Some shows will only let you sell handcrafted items and nothing resale that isn't personally made by you. Just check with the show contact first before you buy.
