  1. Ok, I broke down, got lye, got oils and tried the simple beginners recipe here. 14.4 oz Olive 8 oz lard 8 oz coconut 1.6 oz castor Followed the directions for the crockpot method here, and now for the question. How long do I leave it alone before I can cut it up and use it? Take pity on the newbie please? Thanks for the thoughts. Pat
  2. If you have a Lowes near by, you might also look at the soil moist. I "think" it was about $13 for the 1 pound container. Would help to save on shipping that way.
  3. I have seen the small round candle molds about 2" diameter if that is what you are looking for? You might try searching for saturn ball molds. HTH
  4. Stunning, Beautiful, too many ways to describe your work. Keep posting!
  5. Love the Palm and the colors are lovely.
  6. Not Christina, but I do have to say these are gorgeous! Pat
  7. These are gorgeous. I have yet to see anything from you that isn't though. Best of luck with the shows.
  8. I took a peek and loved everything I saw. The soaps are gorgeous. Best of luck!
  9. If you have waited for the wax to cool and have poked relief holes, it shouldn't be a problem with the refills. Just make sure that the outer part of the candle is cooled. Its kind of like when you do the layers. You have to pour each one then poke the relief hole all the way thru to make sure there aren't any suprises. HTH Pat
  10. There are different types of soy for different applications. There is a separate section on the board for vegetable waxes. If you do a search there for the soy wax for pillars, you might find which ones people here like or don't. I am a paraffin user myself.
  11. So far I do not sell them. Most of the ones that I have made have gone out the door as testers and gifts. If you are trying to figure out a way to make extra money, this really isn't the way to do it. I have been making candles for 5 years and am only now thinking of selling. Until I can afford the necessary things like insurance, though, that is still just a thought. To figure out how much wax a candle mold needs, there are instructions on this board. I think its under general information, or techniques and ideas. Either way, there is alot of help here. Just remember, it isn't about heating up wax, sticking a wick into it and selling it. You have to test them from top to bottom and make sure you are sure you can replicate them. I have found that my 3X3 pillar weighs about 1 pound finished. HTH Pat
  12. Nita, for the 200 pounds plus shipping it was close to $300. But I ordered from KY candle supplies. Vickey is really wonderful and I love the wax that I get from her. It is granulated so I don't have to use a hammer and beat my wax to death just to use it. Depending on what area of the country you are in, you might have a supplier closer to you. As for who I recommend, it all depends on where you are and what kind of wax you want to use. I have used candlesandsupplies in Pennsylvania, but shipping was too much. I have heard great things about candlescience, farmhouse, and all the rest. HTH Pat
  13. Its still expensive to make the candles. I just got 200 pounds of wax delivered today. Not including the FO's! If you are using craft store products you will be paying alot more than if you order from an online supplier. Its all relative at this point for me though. There aren't suppliers near where I am, so everything from wax to molds to wicks comes from on line.
  14. The first one is always the most difficult. Just make sure that you let it cool completely before you try to remove it from the mold also. That alone is the hardest part. I pour mine late in the day and leave them until the next morning before I unmold. So far so good.
  15. Make sure you cover your work area with newspaper, have a thermometer for your wax and have fun.
  16. Very nice looking chunkies. Perfect for spring!
  17. Very nice. I really like the pictures you have on there.
  18. I'm loving that! Very original and lovely.
  19. Those are too cute! I bought the silicone muffin pans from wally world, but when I use it, I left the hole in the middle for premade chunks for pillars. Worked well too.
  20. Oh My! I really really love these!! One day...I would love to know how you do these..
  21. Very cool and crisp looking. Love them!
  22. I really love the looks of all of them. I love the way you have the striped layers alternating. Gorgeous.
