  1. Hi Jeannie, I am sorry that you are going through the same thing, but at the same time I am glad it is not just me and may just be a hard scent to throw. The Spicy Pumpkin & Chutney started to throw pretty well (not GREAT though) later in the burn, but it is not quite was I was looking for. I will see how the Spiced Pumpkin goes from The Scented Bean when it is ready to burn. It smells like a spicy one. I too think that sometimes they are a little too spicy -- covers up that buttery smelling pumpkin too much. I just had to torture myself. I just lit my Gold Canyon Pumpkin Pie in the cute little pumpkin jar with the face I bought last year. I want to see if I can smell it. I am not quite sure yet because I just lit it a bit ago, but I think I just smelled it going down the stairs! What is their secret? I shall see what happens. Thanks for the kind offer. :smiley2: If I do not have any luck with the Scented Bean's then I may take you up on that. It sounds like a yummy one. ~Holly
  2. Hi Jeannie, Give them a try -- link above given by scents for me. They have some great fragrances and they throw well in soy! :smiley2:
  3. I like Bubble N Light's too. :smiley2: It is the only one I tried but liked it so much did not bother to test any others.
  4. P.S. I love the looks of your website and products. :smiley2:
  5. I vote for Spa Retreat too. :smiley2:
  6. Thank you Indescent. :smiley2: I have the Scented Bean Pumpkin curing right now. Maybe that one will be it. I hope. If not, I will give the Scent Works one a try. Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement. :smiley2:
  7. I am getting frustrated. I don't know if it is my nose, fragrance oil, wax, or combination of wax with the oil. I have tried six different Pumpkin scents at 9% and I cannot get a good throw. The soy wax I have been using gives me a great throw with most scents. However, there are a few that do not do well other than the Pumpkin scents. I even tried Peak's in my paraffin that usually throws just about everything and still did not get a great throw. Maybe it is my nose. I may have a little bit of candlenose right now, but I can smell some other candles. Does anyone else have this problem with the Pumpkin scents? I may have to retest the other ones (ones that I did not test yet in my paraffin) in my paraffin to see if I can find one to throw. I would like to have a nice pumpkin scent by fall to use in the cute pumpkin jars. I would also like to find one that throws well in my soy (Calsoy CB-3). I did get the Sweet Potato Pie (Nature's Garden) to throw well in the soy. So, if I can't find an actual pumpkin scent to throw I will have to use the Sweet Potato Pie in my pumpkin jars -- don't want to use the paraffin in there. Any other suggestions where to find a STRONG pumpkin. I will try to cure them longer, but I get the feeling it won't help. I may hand them over to a friend and see if she can smell them. So far I have tried: Peaks Southern Scentsations Just Scent Bubbles' N Lights The Scented Bean (have not tested this one yet) Thanks! ~Holly
  8. I know the feeling. It is so hard to decide. Let me see if I can narrow it down a bit. Blueberry Verbena Mulled Cider Comfy Cabin -- CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO LIST THIS ONE Coconut Lime Verbena Spiced Apple Pecan Green Tea Country Grove Vanilla Dreams Vanilla of Pearl Lavender Vanilla Eucalyptus & Spearmint Juniper Breeze I will stop there!
  9. Hi Terrie, I have made a few candles with this wax. I made a Blueberry Verbena, Mulled Cider and Country Grove -- may be forgetting one. I used 9 percent and I did not have any seeping when the candle was not burning. Now when it was burning, I did not get a straight FO seepage but I did get the normal sweating that they all tend to do (lower melting properties coming out) even if you do not put FO in it. I did not detect anything unusual. However, my candles are not sitting in the heat. They may seep if they were in a really hot room, but it could do that even with 7 percent or under. When did you get the seeping? EDITED TO ADD -- when as in not burning in a warm/hot/nice temp room or when the candle was burning? ~Holly :smiley2:
  10. Hi Laura, Oh boy, I have lots. It is hard to break it down to only ten. From Peaks: Green Tea Cinnamon Buns Juniper Breeze Fresh Linen and several more Alabaster: Mulled Cider Spiced Apple Pecan Just Scent: Another Spiced Apple Pecan (a tie with Alabaster) Vanilla of Pearl Lavender Vanilla Just By Nature: Coconut Lime Verbena Chestnuts & Brown Sugar Spring Morning Dew Citrus and Teakwood EDITED TO ADD - Creative Candle Supply: Comfy Cabin The Scented Bean: Vanilla Dreams (love this vanilla) Sage & Citrus Almond Biscotti Rose and lots more Bubbles N Light: Blueberry Verbena! Lemon Meringue Pie Vanilla Sadalwood Eucalyptus & Spearmint and more Snowtop: Blueberry Muffins Country Grove lots more to test Nature's Garden: Sweet Potato Pie lots more to test I have a lot more that I LOVE and may be forgetting some others that are must haves, and I know this is listing more than ten, but I have to have these.
  11. Hi Laura, You are welcome. :smiley2: I should try to test burn that JS Pumpkin again and see if maybe it was my nose last time. Like Trish said above, lots of people rave about the JS Pumpkin. I could not believe it when it did not give me good throw. A lot of the ravers used it in soy and said it works wonderful in soy and Calsoy CB-3 is a good scent throwing soy. Who knows, maybe it needed to cure longer or something (if there is really something to that with soy). I could have had just a really bad case of candlenose or maybe my nose does not smell pumpkin all that well. I have heard though that pumpkin is not always the strongest scent and many have trouble getting a great throw. I did not bother testing it in my paraffin because I wanted to find one that throws well in my soy. If you added the FO at 170 and it did not bind well, maybe try 175 next time and if that does not work I guess you will have to put it in at 180. I am not sure how hot you can pour the J-50 to get good results for how the wax looks in the jar. Trish may know this. You really should not have to change your pour temparature in regards to adding the FO at a higher temp, etc. If you are getting good looking candles poured at 160, keep pouring them at that temp. I hope that helped some. Good luck! :smiley2: ~Holly
  12. Hi Laura, I am trying to find the right Pumpkin Spice fragrance oil too and I am finding that a lot of them do not throw real strong. I tested JS-Pumpkin Pie Spice at 9% in Calsoy CB-3 and the hot throw was poor. However, I did not test this scent in my paraffin but figured it would be poor in there too, but I could be wrong. I have heard some being sucessful with that scent but everyone has a different nose and what may be a strong scent throw to one may not be to another. I have also tested two pumpkin fragrances from Southern Scentsations which are supposed to be really good but they were not strong enough either. They have some really great scents though. The two from SS were better than the JS one. I have tried Peaks too and I am sad to say it did not throw well for me either. I had the test sample for a few months but I don't think it was too old. I just got done pouring The Scented Bean's Spiced Pumpkin, and Bubbles' N Lights' Pumpkin Spice (type) and Spicy Pumpkin Chutney. They smell wonderful and I hope they will throw well. They seemed much stronger out of the bottle. It may just be that JS's Pump....spice will not throw well in your wax. What percent oil did you use? If you used under 9%, maybe you can try at least 9 if the J-50 can hold it. It may not -- not sure. If you can't get it to throw, keep trying some others. I will try to remember to let you know if these three new ones I just poured throws or not in my soy. HTH ~Holly
  13. I second The Scented Bean's Vanilla Dreams -- awesome -- stronger than a lot of the other vanillas -- vanillas always seem kinda light. I also like Just Scent's Vanilla of Pearl. I need to try Peak's vanillas. I am sure they will have a good one too. :smiley2:
  14. I too, like the JS-123 from Just Scent. However, it did not burn well in my fancy jars with double wicking -- a little too much soot -- not bad, but bad enough for me. However, in the right jars, it burns beautifully! I use it in my tureens. It is a pretty wax, easy to use, has a great burn rate, and has a great scent throw. It is my favorite paraffin (single pour) out of all the ones I tried (except for CB-30 Calwax paraffin/soy blend). But, that is based on my needs. It can always be different for someone else. It is worth a try and Becky is wonderful to work with. HTH :smiley2:
  15. I have more success with Peaks! :smiley2: They have high quality oils. A lot of them throw well in soy too. Bittercreek has some good ones, but if I had to choose between the two, it would be Peaks. HTH
  16. Hi, Cap them right after they have set up. It keeps dirt/dust out and produces a great cold throw with the wonderful FO fumes that get trapped in that lid. Hope that helps. Have fun making candles! ~Holly
  17. Hi Fire and Ice, Thanks for your response. So, the cinnamon candles at 7% are really strong in the C-3 Cargill but if it could go to 10% it would be even stronger? Sorry for all the questions -- just curious. I can understand liking a less curing time. I notice that with the CB-3 Calsoy, it does not seem to need a long cure time. I can use up to 9% for sure and I have used 10% with vanillas and succeeded. Thanks again. :smiley2:
  18. I have not tested a lot from them, but I do like their Spiced Apple Pecan and Mulled Cider. The Mulled Cider has an awesome throw in both soy and paraffin. :smiley2:
  19. TopofMurrayHill, I enjoyed reading your post and you are so right. There is usually enough trouble with soot emissions without adding more of the culprit. It can be a good thing when needed but like you said the blends usually already have some in it and can produce more soot -- than I like anyway. I love your matter-of-fact (not sure if this is the right word, lol) way of responding. You seem to be a wise and knowledgable candlemaker (is this supposed to be one word? -- never sure when I type this out -- lol). :smiley2: ~Holly
  20. Hi Alightsoy, Thank you so much for your help. I will see what I can do in terms of getting a test slab. I really do like the CB-3 Calsoy, but there were just a couple others I wanted to test it up against and the ADM was one of them. I also like the C-3 Cargill but have not tested it enough to really know how the scent throw compares with the CB-3 Calsoy. The ADM sounds really good. I assume that you use it now? Thanks again. ~Holly
  21. Hi, I had read over that particular test a little while ago and also found it very interesting. I have an online friend that uses ADM and loves it, except for the pitting and the frost that you get when you color them. She said that even though the distributor is in Washington, for some reason it comes shipped from another state. I don't quite understand why this would be. She said that she sometimes has trouble receiving the wax. I have wanted to test the ADM up against the CB-3 Calsoy to see which was better, but really did not know how to get a sample of it up until this thread. I saw that Chempoint site but did not see where to order it, etc. I just sent them an email asking them how one can order a test slab. I have a feeling that it may perform very similiar to the CB-3 Calsoy, except I am not sure about the scent throw - could be better, the same or not as good. Thanks for posting this thread.
  22. Hi Henry, It has been so long since I poured the IGI 6006 -- last year. As far as I can remember, it was a one pour for me. I don't remember thinking that I was going to have to do two pours. If anything, there may have been a VERY slight dip, but don't remember if it had a slight dip or not. It must have not been bad because I think I would remember that. I remember liking the looks of the wax but I did not think it had as good of a cold throw or hot throw as the other paraffin blends I was testing at the time. However, this was in the beginning of my wax testing, and I did hot have as many oils at that time to test. Some oils work better in some waxes than others. ~Holly
  23. I should add -- I use RRD wicks. Some other wicks that can work in soy are: ECO CD HTP COTTON PAPER ~Holly
