  1. I'm kind of researching to figure something out. I want to change my wicks. To change my wicks I need to change the wax combo I use. So I'm looking at some of the soy options. I'm trying to find one that will be available from several suppliers nearby, so I don't get in a bind. However........ Question: would you say that using the melt point is a fair way to compare 2 soy waxes? Like if I find a Golden brands wax with a 120 mp at a supplier and they run out, but they have Ecosoya CB at 120 mp, would they behave the same way in a blend? I don't think I'd be nervy enough to switch around with out testing first, but I'm curious. Any one tried this?
  2. I knew I should've stayed away from this thread........((hanging head, off to look at JS))
  3. So how long does it normally take to melt your jar candle on your warmer? How long do you think it should take to melt all the way through? (I asked this under 'business' and didn't get much response, this is probably the better place to ask.)
  4. It's just a ceramic warmer-the slow one. No watts listed though. This would be for re-sale, that's why I'm testing the time it takes to melt my wickless jars. My plastic warmer that I picked up for like $3.50 melts the whole jar in about 1 hour. How long does yours take to melt?
  5. It took a full 2 hours to partially melt through the surface of a 9 oz bulb jar. This is on the second test. Am I just impatient? Do you guys think that sounds right? Or do you even melt the wax completely with your warmer? This is an order of 14 that I may have to return. Any thoughts?
  6. Okay, I ordered candle warmers from 2 places. The one I like the best seems to either not work right or it's just not hot enough. Normally, my own cheap warmers melt the wickless jars that I make in about 1 hr. This new warmer had been on for like an hour and 20 minutes and still wasn't getting all the way through. How fast do you think is suitable? If it takes too long then I might have to just return them, a lot of them. So how long, in your respective opinions, should a warmer take to do it's job?
  7. 20 watts was what I was looking for, and they do have a really nice selection. I'll give them a try. Thank you!
  8. Has anyone ordered candle warmers from Candlewarmers.com? I want to order a ceramic warmer from there but when I emailed for info they told me that they don't know how many watts the warmers are. ???? How do they not know that? If anyone has one -could you let me know what it says on the underneath please? Also if you have any input on the company and their service I'd love to hear it! TIA
  9. So have you tried Orange Sherbet from any other supplier to see if you got the same effect? I'm wondering if the same scent from a different supplier would have a different effect. Guess I just better give that a try. I've got 2 that are giving me trouble.
  10. There have been several other threads about this kind of thing. I'm having the same problem with 2 FOs. If you get it figured out please share with us! It's really bugging me. I've played with the wicks and the % of FO. Still can't get a normal color in the melt pool when it cools. What kind of wax do you use? I'm starting to think that my wax just doesn't like a couple Fo's. Hopefully one of these experienced chandlers will enlighten us on this. :smiley2:
  11. Hi Gdawg, I'm a big fan of NG. I get most of my FO's from them. I also like ICS and JS. Never ordered from Taylored or Wellington so nothing to say on that. Everyone has a different experience with suppliers, but honestly, I don't think I've ever had a dud from NG. Maybe a few I didn't care for to much, but they all throw well in my wax. Parasoy. Of course I did mentioned my Gardenia and Fresh Linen issue in the other thread but I love them both. -HTH
  12. I don't think I'd mind if the Fo's were ones that I colored, like a pink or green, but these are both white so it just looks like the candles are defective or something. I might just have to try those 2 Fo's from another supplier, maybe I'll get different results that way. Always something to test, test, test, test.............................
  13. I know this thread is a couple weeks old but I did a search actually found just what I was looking for so I pulled it up. I'm having a problem with the melt pool turning darker when it cools also. Specifically with Fresh Linen and Gardenia. Logcabinmama, do you get your Gardenia from NG? I noticed that the oil is almost golden in color. And it also turns my melt pool orange when it cools. I was wondering if another supplier might have a lighter color oil that wouldn't discolor. My Fresh Linen turns grey . I know the wicking is right, I've checked. I also lessened the FO load. I read another thread about J50 sometimes discoloring. I do mix soy with J50. So far I only have this issue with these 2 Fo's, but it is really bugging me and I like them both a lot. Any thoughts?? Any suggestions??
  14. I've always kind of liked them for bakery and florals. I think of JJ's as kitchen candles, and I like a vase of flowers on the table. To me it fits. But I do see your point.
  15. Thanks for the update! I haven't looked at Fillmore for quite a while. They have a lot of new stuff. Price looks good too.
  16. Well, I'll definitely find a good one with all these suggestions. Appriciate the help! Thanks
  17. Wow, thank you everyone. I'll have to put together an order and give a couple of these a try.
  18. I'm not a fan of lavender scents at all so I wouldn't know a good one if jumped out at me. I've heard lavender can be a bit overwhelming sometimes so I guess I would be looking for something soft or subtle. Any recommendations? TIA
  19. That sounds awsome. Sorry, I don't know where else it might be. I do use the White Ginger and Amber from Bear Labs, and I'm sure it's very different, but it's one of my favs right now.
  20. I've used thier FO's in Joywax, j50 and a parasoy, and I have been really happy with everything I've used. I love looking at their website. My wish list gets longer and longer each time I go there. I really like that they post reviews too.
  21. If you mean your pour pot, stirers and that stuff, you can usually blast it with a heat gun and wipe it clean with paper towels. After that I wash with soap to get the scent and any color off. Or you can also put them in the oven on really low, like 170, on a cookie sheet lined with foil first, then paper towels on top of the foil. The paper absorbs the wax that melts off, and foil keeps it from getting all over the pan. This is how I do it anyway. Maybe there are other ideas. Soy would be much easier to clean up. HTH
  22. Check www.candlescience.com and BCN- www.candlesupply.com . I'm sure I've gotten samples from both of them.
  23. Wow, interesting observation. Sounds very likely to me. I mean it's all in the wording. If they don't say "100% soy wax" but "made from/with", that could be very misleading. Gotta go look at their website now.... They say it is not a soy-paraffin blend, but a 100% stabilized soy wax. But I can't see anywhere that they explain what "stabilized" means. Hhhmmmm.......
  24. I have the same issues with both the HTP's and the zincs. I wasn't happy with CD's either, I had way too much smoking. But it's hard to tell if it's the wick or the wax/wick combo causing this. I'd like to switch wax soon and I think I'll be trying eco's and LX's next. But, like you said, the charts don't really give you everything. I think I need to learn more about the burn rates or the wicks and melt temp of the wax. I think there must be something to that that will help me choose the right type. Where are all the scientists? Sombody has to know about that.....
  25. Ooops. Thanks. I guess all the info is out there, it's just all over the place. I also have scoured the archives. I still have so many questions about this stuff though. Like the ROC- would I use that (from the chart) and the melt point of the wax to determine which wick type to use? I'm not trying to get out of testing, just trying to have a better understanding. I know all this makes sense somehow. Lol.....Gmp-we'll figure this out- Anyway, thanks for the replies. I appriciate the help.
