  1. Okay, then I didn't imagine it. Warning lables that state 1/8". So I guess it works for some people. Thanks.
  2. Got it. I'm not using straight soy right now so it's not an issue for me. I just thought that I'd read that here somewhere and blah blah blah.................. I know 1/4" trim is standard. That's why I was trying to reconcile this 1/8" thing. Must have been mistaken on that one. Thanks for all the input. Edited to add: But then again, Carrie, if you've heard that too then maybe there is something to the 1/8" thing. Hmmmm? Larger wicks...
  3. Just curious-would you say that with soy, in general, the wick needs to be a tad shorter than in paraffin? I think I heard 1/8 of an inch for soy when trimming. Is this right? Thanks
  4. Thanks for the warning. I'm thinking of going another route now. I think I'll get tins, but keep them in a larger basket with sample jars and order forms. Maybe the scents won't get all mixed up if they're not in that little case. I guess I'll find out.
  5. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. That's exactly what I was thinking of. I thought they'd be at some obsure place and I didn't even try looking for them at the regular suppliers. Thanks again.
  6. I know I've seen it here before, and I did try to do a search but I'm just not hitting on the right things. ~big suprise there..LOL. I'm looking for a place to get some kind of sample case for candle scents. Like little tins or something that I can fill with wax, and the customer can see the colors and smell. I remember having seen these tins that come in a nice case. Maybe someone has a link they could share??????? :rolleyes2 TIA
  7. Hi Robin, I have a space in a craft mall. It's a small space. I brought in my own shelves and display items. I pay them rent every month and they also get a % of each sale. I only have to keep the shelves stocked and check in here and there. I keep track of inventory and sales. This particular craft mall is open 7 days a week, retail hours. I like that the candles are always out and available for purchase. I've had this space about 6 months now. It's been a geat learning experience for me. I've really had fun with it. Now for the down side. I have to pay rent whether anyone buys a candle or not. And this summer I could barely give them away. I hardly covered the rent. The sales are totally unpredicable. Good days and bad days, and it sucks when I hit a dry patch. But that isn't just craft malls is it? I don't know how much longer I'll stay with it(the mall). So, the bottom line for me is that it just hasn't been very profitable. But I've learned what I can sell, what I like, and what works for me. I would suggest you check out the traffic that your mall gets. See if it gets a lot of bussiness. How many other sell candles there? Are they going to be any competition for you? It could be worth while. Especially this time of year.
  8. I have Warm Vanilla Sugar from NG. Just my opinion, but as great as it is~I think it's just the scent itself that is kind of soft. I don't think it's weak, I would say more of a subtle, soft scent. HTH:)
  9. I really like the frosted jars. I put clear on the poll because 2 of the 3 jars I carry are clear. But I sell a small 6 oz.frosted jar that I really like. It sells pretty well too, but that's probably because its' the smallest and least expensive.
  10. That $1 off a lb is great deal. I'm gonna need it now.
  11. A craft mall is totally different than a craft fair or craft show. The craft mall I'm in is a real building and it's open 7 days a week. I don't have to be there to man my booth. I just go re-stock and organize once a week or so. I signed a lease for the space so it's a long term commitment. I haven't done a craft show yet. But I'm sure many others here can give you tips on finding them in your area.
  12. Well, I can tell you the one I'm in, and the ones I've been to are like a very large store that rents out booth space to crafters of all types. Soaps, candles, wood work, art, anything handmade. So I have a booth in this store and I pay rent each month. I keep my shelves stocked and candles on display, and they ring them up and make sure all is well in the store. I do have to pay a % on each sale in addition to the rent. But I see this time as an opportunity for me to hone my product. See what sells, what looks good, what people are willing to pay. It's been a great learning experience so far. But to be totally honest, it hasn't been very profitable. I'll get out when I get my game plan together.
  13. Looks good. Is this in a craft mall kind of place or a store? I wish I could see your products too. Looks like you have quite a variety.
  14. I'm still a newbie. I have a booth in a craft mall right now. I'm hoping to have a website established by the first of the year and then I'll probably pull out of the craft mall. Hopefully I'll have a couple small wholesale accounts by that point too.
  15. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have a couple of the ones mentioned, but some I don't have. I'll at least get a few samples. Maybe I'll just go straight for the 16oz! Thanks again.
  16. I have the Pumpkin Crunch Cake, yum. I haven't tried the gingerbread. I want something that isn't seasonal though. A good one for year round. Anything else?
  17. I'm looking for one more bakery scent. I'll probably be ordering from NG or JS in the next day or so. Does anyone have a really good seller or a favorite that I should try? It's for a parasoy blend. TIA
  18. We used to live near Shipshewana and we always took our out of town visitors there to get pretzels and shop. If this 'on the road' thing ever comes to us I'd sure go. Would you apply to be a vendor only at the locations your interested in?
  19. Thanks. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be purple. I've got an awful lot of purpley colors right now. But purplish/lavender it will be! I'll just have to make sure I'm varying the shades pretty well. I do like peach colors a lot though, hmmmm.....
  20. For those of you that use this scent what color would it be? I really don't have a clue. I'm not much of a gardener. TIA:smiley2:
  21. I think that is so cool! My hubby and I discussed the same kind of thing. Of course that would be a long way off for us. I can barely sell a candle right now! lol... I wish you lots of luck.
  22. I would love for this to be my full time job. Right now I have kids at home, and I'm trying to build the business so that by the time they are in school all day I'll have the candles as income~small income, but still income. I look to everyone here for inspiration. I feel like everyday I'm taking steps to make this my full time job. But I have to be money smart or I'll spend more than I'll be able to make!
  23. I asked them if they would send me a sample jar and they wouldn't. They sent me a lid but no jar. I was kind of bummed. I didn't want to buy a whole case just to see the jar. They are so pretty. I'd like to hear about your testing too. Is there anyplace else that carries these jars?
  24. This may sound dumb, but who requires that a phone # and city info be on the lable? I just have the candle co. ,scent, and weight then a standard warning lable. Is that not sufficient?
