  1. Just my opinion here, but I would think maybe for the sake of good customer service sending her a new candle would be the way to go. (I say this from a customers perspective.) It'll make you look good too. If in her mind the candle is defective, she will remember this and maybe tell others. Better she feel that you did the right thing by her and fixed what she perceives to be a wrong. How would she re-wick the candle? Wouldn't that be potentially more complicated and dangerous for her than to just send her a candle? I would email and apology and send her a new candle. We all hope that when we have a complaint that someone will pay attention and do the right thing. That's propbably all she's thinking too.
  2. CindyS- I'm sure it wasn't the same people that we saw-or maybe it was, but it looked like pure soy to me. I think they had such a great sales pitch and people liked finding something they could afford, my guess was that they made a profit based on volume of sales. The candles weren't particularly attractive IMO, but even so, 5 for $20 caught my eye!
  3. That's interesting. About a year ago I saw a couple big guys selling soy candles at a local festival. It looked kind of funny as big and burley as they were. Couldn't picture them burning a candle of their own. But, they were 8 oz JJ, same prices, 5 for $20. They had the sales pitch too. Anyone that approached heard all the benefits of soy. They must have had 50 scents or so.
  4. Wow. I was curious about those. I'd like to hear their response to you if you do complain. How did it burn and smell while you had it going?
  5. Congratulations on getting this opportunity! How exciting, and yes, I'm sure it must seem overwhelming. I haven't done anything like this and I can't offer advice, but I think if you got yourself this far you can pull this off. Just think it through and don't make any hasty decisions. I hope the resident experts can help you along here. Do you have a time frame?
  6. I use the metros from the Jar Store. I wasn't sure about the seams at first, but now I don't even notice. Once the wax is poured it's like they disappear.
  7. Thanks for posting your pics! I have my first show coming in a few weeks and I can't believe how nervous I am. Glad to hear about your experience and how well it went. I was thinking about getting some of those risers from Gershal Bros too, I definitly will now after seeing how great they look. Congratulations! :highfive:
  8. I know when I get the least bit flustered my math skills will be out the window. :rolleyes2 But yes, I will count back the 'old fashioned' way, even if it's just to keep me focused! I was hoping there would be a machine or calculator that would give me a tally for the day without needing another tape. Hmmm....I guess I just need to get to the store and start looking. Thanks!
  9. I was hoping for suggestions. I need to get an adding machine today. I want it to print out reciepts. I've never used one before (newbie), but I was wondering - if you put in the payment do they tell you the change due? I've used real cash registers but not adding machines. Of course I'd like to stick to someting inexpesive. I'll probably run to Staples later today. I'd appriciate any help or thoughts on this, features I should look for, etc. Thanks!
  10. I don't mean to vear off topic here, but do you know why they stopped carrying j50? That's a pretty popular wax, isn't it? No experience with this blend, sorry. But the reviews look pretty good on it. I notice someone else mentioned a problem with sinkholes too. Hopefully someone will pop in with some info.........
  11. I agree with Gingers mind game theory. Very interesting. I think food would suddenly be very bland if it all came in white and beige. (Might not be a bad idea for me though!:rolleyes2 ) But I definitly think the natural colors can look very elegant and sophisticated. I guess my preference is color. Karen-I would probably be one of those customers that couldn't smell an uncolored candle.
  12. If there is one thing I have learned here it is don't assume anything, ever. I don't use those jars ( they are really pretty though). But I think people here would advise you to test both sizes completely with every scent. Do they have the same diameter? Even if they do, the 12 oz will be taller so you don't know how the wick will behave as it burns lower in the jar. Hopefully someone using this jar can give you pointers.
  13. I'll second that with the Go Daddy thing. HUGE dissapointment. It is not user friendly in my opinion. I had no idea what I was getting into with that package. I'm no computer whiz for sure, but even my friend that designs websites couldn't figure out their set up. And I didn't have all the options that I was expecting. I'm sure others have had better luck, but with my lack of experience it was a total loss.
  14. I have ordered a few things from them, but not FO's. I live not too far from them and went to the store once. A lot of the fo bottles looked like they had been on the shelf for a while (JMO). I wondered if they kept track of the shelf life. But they do have a huge selection of scents.
  15. Thanks, I'll check that one out. Anyone else have a suggestion?
  16. I'll be placing orders soon with both NG and JS and I want to try a new Christmas tree or a pine. Either with spices or not is fine, as long as it's mostly a pine/balsam/fir/tree smell. There are so many to choose from. Any recommendations from either supplier? TIA!
  17. Me too. I use a lot from NG and I never have had to go over 1 oz., and on a few I use less than that (4%). I do start testing at 6% though.
  18. NG has a really good Ginger Peach but I don't know if it's anything like Pier 1. http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/df-0001 It's a good seller for me. HTH
  19. I haven't used these but I think www.labelsbythesheet.com does them too.
  20. The only Fig anything that I've heard of is Mediteranean Fig. I think several suppliers carry that. HTH
  21. I prefer catagories. I know some scents are hard to classify, or fit more than one. But I know when I am shopping online for FO, like Wick'n'Wax said, I hate having to read each name trying to find what I want. Could you add catagories to fit the ones that are in between? I have a 'Classics' and 'Exotics' catagory and that actually covers quite a bit. And if it fits two catagories then you will be 50% right where ever you put it!
  22. I've been sticking to the same % for each FO that I use in candles. If it's 6% I go with that, if it's 4% I do that. Sometimes when I'm pouring candles I'll fill a couple wickless jars while I have that FO going. It seems to me like since you get the whole melt pool going at once that it's almost stronger IMO.
  23. That's really cute! I wonder what the minimum would be to special order something like that...
