I apologize if this has come up but I haven't seen it. I use the "crisa tumbler cap" from GL candle supply. It's just a nice thin plastic lid that fits my jars perfectly (I don't use the crisa jars). Apparently, GL is out of stock and I haven't heard back yet on when they expect more. Anyone know where else I might get these? I'd buy them in bulk or whatever. I just haven't seen them anywhere else. I'm down to my last few lids. TIA for any suggestions!

Hi all. I'm thinking of changing the jar I use for wickless jars. Currently, I use the 12 oz. whisper/bulb jar from the Jar Store. The warmers I want the jars to fit are the white cermamic ones that BCN sells. I was thinking of using the 10 oz. apothocary jars, maybe. I definitly would prefer a shorter, wider jar. My concern is that the some places I've looked at say the apothocary jars have a 4" diameter, but the plate on the warmer measures about 3 3/4". Seems to me though, they should fit. I do like the bulb jars but the shipping is killing me. Any one have a favorite jar for their warmers? Or just a new idea? ~TIA :smiley2:

Thanks for the reply. I was nervous to ask the question . I think zinc would be my first choice since that what I use now. I was in a bit of a panic last night when I posted and as it turns out I have just enough of my blend left to get me through. Also, I hope I haven't mislead anyone that uses Joy Wax. I emailed NG to inquire and they have NOT discontinued it. This is the response form NG: "We have not discontinued the Joy Wax, but we are out of stock of it. We are expecting a partial shipment this week. As soon as we have it available again we will put it back on the website. "

Hi Guys, I haven't posted in a really long time. I was on a break for awhile (about a year) from candle making until a show came up. I do soy candles and also a j50/joywax blend, or I used to, until I just now realized the Joy wax was discontinued by NG! At least that's how it looks on their website. So here I am asking for help. I might have enough joy wax to get me through this show, but I'm afraid I won't. I was hoping you could help me out. I can't possibly re-test everything in time for the show, but I do have time to order new wicks. If I use straight j50 would you recommend zinc wicks? The jars I'm using are Libby tumblers about 2.75" diameter. I used zinc before but I'm afraid they will smoke too much with out the joy wax in the blend. Do you think Eco wicks would be a better choice? Candle Science recommends the Eco wicks so that's what I was thinking of trying. I'm kind of stuck. Any thoughts? :undecided TIA~ ps-I am aware of all the issues everyone had with the joy wax so I figured that's why it's gone. I'm not looking for trade secrets, I promise, just a little help to get me through this show. Thanks!

It seems from both experiences the climate is definitly related. Either dampness or humidity maybe. This could make for an interesting experiment. Might have to try that next!

Stella and Stacie, thanks . I actually like the look of a funky, bumpy soy candle as it burns, lol. I'm not really trying to fix that. To me it looks kind of organic and primitive. Justcountry~thank you. That's what I was talking about. BEFORE they burn. So do you think it was the warm weather, maybe humidity, or the scent you used, or maybe just the combo? How long do you think it takes for this to happen to the wax? I can't believe it got past the top !!! If it's a rare occurance then I won't worry about it. But if it's preventable then I'll do my best to avoid it!

Thanks. I'm all about the testing. I know how important that is and I'm ready for A LOT of it, lol. So far it's going suprisingly well! I have learned tons from those threads! I know the search feature is full of wonderful information. I use it quite often. This is how I decided to settle on 415. :smiley2: If this growth thing is referring to the chunky look of the wax as it burns down, well...that's just natural, I get that, I've seen that. But what I understood-from the thread that I read it in- was that it is an actual change in the appearance of the wax before it is even lit. But, it could be that I just mis-understood. Thanks.

So in your experience moisture and dampness seem to be the culprit. Good to know. That does help. I'm fine with the frosting, but I've never actually seen this 'growing' thing so I thought I'd better find out what to watch for. Parasoy doesn't have that issue, lol. Once they're poured that's pretty much it. Soy is interesting to work with. But so far, so good!

Thanks. I'm a little too 'wordy' sometimes, lol. I wasn't really expecting specific answers to each question, just input on whatever might be important. I'll take what I can get! If soy is going to grow, at what point does this tend to happen? I'd hate to think I'd made a great candle and find out it's sitting in someones closet morphing into some gross cauliflower looking thing.

I'm testing 415. I started a while back and got sidetrack but now I'm trying again. I'm new to 415, well, new to pure soy in general. I'm trying eco's and cd's. I know it needs to cure. What I'm curious about with soy is what do I need to watch for besides the standard stuff? I've read things about soy "growing"??? I'm not using color so I'm assuming I don't need to worry about fading or discoloring. I hope? Are there any issues that would develope later? Should I keep them on the shelf for a while for any reason? I know soy has a reputation for being kind of unpredictable. I'm open to any thoughts or suggestions. TIA!

I've been having this problem with jj's. I stopped using them for awhile because I was afraid someone would try to pick it up and have a spill or something. I agree with Stella- if it's too hot to pick up (above the melt pool line) then it's too hot. Now I'm trying to use thicker glass to avoid this problem.

I think you read my post right. I sometimes don't even know what my point is, lol. This is my first time using both 415 and this fo. So I'm new to both. Maybe I should have asked more specifically about which wick series people prefer for this wax. I'm sure there are easier fo's to test with, but seeing as how the wax is new for me too I figured I'd just go for it. I've used both of these jars before, but that doesn't much matter with a new wax. It's like starting from scratch. I like how the eco's and the lx's burn in the 415, but the jj seemed to keep a good temp with a cd 10. Top- it never did drown out.

I leave them on the bottom of the jar and I don't worry a bit about them. I don't think the burner gets so hot that it would ignite a sticker. JMO. Having said that, I fully expect someone else to have a different opinion and I know others have mentioned concern about it.

Maybe I'll order a sample pack of hemp wicks. The cd is still hanging in there. I'm about 1/2 way down the candle at this point. Ht isn't great, but it's a pretty narrow jar and I didn't give this any cure time either. But still better than the htp. As for the jar getting hot, this seems okay to me. It is curling a bit so the mp is off center, but I'm okay with that as long as the jar is cool enough. The other wicks were so hot you couldn't pick up the jar if you held it at or above the mp level.

Thanks for all the replies, and the clarification on the ezsoy thing. This one is really bugging me. Meredean, do you think your jelly jars get hot? I mean, the eco 10 was great, but the friggin jar was just too hot for me to be comfortable with that. I guess maybe the jar is the problem more than wicking this wax. The votive/tumbler that had the eco 10 was thicker glass and burned perfectly, but these jj's are thinner glass and a bit more narrow. It's like I need 1/2 size smaller to get the result I want. Maybe I'm just being too picky. Maybe I need to step away from the wicks...and the wax...and take a break...and try again tomorrow :tiptoe: <--me stepping away....

Yeah, I read your thread about 415. The eco 8 seemed weak the whole way. Too much hang-up and just a pitiful little flame. The eco 10 would have been fine in a thicker jar I think. It just felt too hot to me. I have a CD 10 going right now and it looks right on. It has a little hang up but that will be gone soon. Although, now I'm thinking I'll need to watch to see if the flame starts to fade. Well, at this point the cd is beating the htp. I hope this one doesn't drown!

First, is 415 the same thing as ez soy? Just curious. Thought I saw that somewhere. Second, I'm testing 2 containers. First one - a 7 oz tumbler- was perfect with an eco 10. Then I tried an 8 oz jj and the eco 10 was too hot and the eco 8 was too weak. Eco 9 would be perfect. Is there an equivelant to that? I can't remember if I tried the cd's now or not- I don't take very good notes :rolleyes2 . But I have an HTP 104 in right now and the burn is great, just a little hang-up on the sides, but I can't smell it. It could be me, I know a lot of you use htp's in 415, I think. I guess I should get the cd's back out and give those a go. I have a lot of jj jars here and I really wanted to use these. But for me they tend to get really hot and that's where I'm having trouble. Either the flame is weak and there is tons of hang-up, or the jar is too hot to touch. Any suggestions for me, different wick series I should try? Thanks in advance for any input here. ps-I'm using vanilla patchouli @ 1oz pp, no additives

This is an interesting dilema. I used to do JJ's and metro's also. I found that with most fo's I used the wame wick. There were only a couple that needed to go up or down by a size. But the throw was never affected, just the mp. Could it be candle nose? If your worried about getting these finished up maybe they are better than you think and your just nervous? Just a thought. I'm sure your covering all your bases. Test someone elses nose with these and see what they think....

That drives me nuts. I wish all suppliers would include scent descriptions. There are a lot of FO's with names that give no indication of what they smell like. Angel Hearts, Angel Wings, Driftwood, ??? Even if my nose doesn't pick up the same notes at least I have an idea. I have no idea what Angel wings is or how it might differ from Angel Hearts. Who knows what weird things I might order with out knowing the scent.
