  1. Hi wick, would you mind sharing where you got your micro hard from was it from a supplier in the UK? I have been using luster crystals but it turns the wax really cloudy so you cant see ehat your doing. Good luck anyway, you may as well try it- you can always melt it back down if it doesnt come out themold right. But i wouldnt grease it if your puting a picin the hurricane as it might effect the pic - not certain though?
  2. I dont think we have to worry about them melting in the post here in England anjie.
  3. Why not make some bride and groom clothes yourself - i did and it was much cheaper. I bought some white netting and made a veil and attached silk flowers round it. Then with some more of the netting i made a sort of skirt and attached straps to it with white material. Then i used more flowers attached to the hand of the bear. For the groom i made a black waist coat and attached a flower to the button hole. And made a cream bow tie. It was fairly easy. Considering i cant really sew.
  4. Anjie, i think you did a really good job on that tidepool candle. You have inspired me to have a go. I only live five minutes from the beach so i think i might go down and get some sand ( can i do that just take sand?) But i will have to find some nice shells, we only get ugly ones washed up on the northeast english coast. Where did you get your shells from anjie?
  5. How do I get my wax to 290F??? For the last part heat it on direct heat to get the temperature very high to 290, but be careful Anjie,x.
  6. Hi manda, thankyou i never thought to look there problem solved- they also do liquid glue too
  7. But hopefully some one replies about the tacky wax as i really could do with some
  8. yup, just the normal wax stick things that go int o the glue gun - i get them from b& Q
  9. Hi, wick i was just thinking the same thing what you mentionis called tacky wax and i am going to try a hurricane with leaves etc stuck on the side then over diped so i will need some tacky wax for this buti dont thin its available in the uk. But as for sticking your wick tabs, i used a small amount of glue using a glue gun- drop a small dot of glue where you want to put the wick then press the wick and tab in to it let it set before you pour the wax. I did start off using glue dots- but they are expensive here and the glue gun works just as good.
  10. no your best not adding any vybar or stearin as this will only make the candle whiter ( especially the stearin) and less opaque so the light will not shine through as good. It would be useless adding any of these as neither raise the melt point of the wax. You will need to either find a high melt point wax - this is impossible in the U.K i have looked. Or use an addative to raise the melt point- i use translusent crystals but even them tend to make the wax a bit too light( i can post some pics in the gallery if you want to have a look) Plus its really difficult to work with you have to heat it seperately to melt them then add add it to the wax at 200 degrees. Plus you have to order them from the US as havent been able to find them for sale here.
  11. I would be interested too in finding a source for bakery bags- the ones with a window in and pie boxes - in the U.K also if anyone knows? Wick n Wax i package my pies in a foil tray/dish then wrap in cellophane tied with ribbon and a hang tag for scent etc. but a bakery pie box would also be an option, if you manage to find a U.K source, let me know if you do
  12. Why dont you use a battery powered tea light for you aunts cane- they done through out any heat- although it will not be as bright you will not have the risk of it melting
  13. No, you definately need a high melt point wax or addatives added to the regular wax- other wise after it has been lit for a bit the walls will start to melt and cave in, even if the candles in a holder. I did try it and after it had been lit for a few hours the inside wall started to run, and then one side caved in. Even with addative it does raise the melt point as much as the hurricane wax would be, so i only use the small sort of tea light in them. But am sure there will be someone along here soon that will know a lot more about it than me Have to tried burning one for a good few hours at a time to see if it will hold up?
  14. Hi wick n wax nice to see a another fellow U.K candle maker on here, theres getting to be quite a few of us on here now. As for the hurricane how about trying it with some nice paper instead of a photo, i did not with a sort of old fashioned scrolly handwriting paper embedded all the way round. OH and i just wondered i saw another one of your posts ( I AM SURE IT WAS YOU) were you said you were using straight paffafin from a hobby shop, do you done that you have to use high melt point wax for hurricanes- i havent been able to find any here in the U.K, so i add an addative to raise the melt point. Otherwise the walls of the hurricane would melt/clapse in after it had been on a bit. But if you have found some high melt point wax in the U.K i would love to know where you found it
  15. Hi, i use the same sasol container wax as the one from candle lights, i do find that there is usually a slight bit of shrinkage, but i dont do a repour, i go over the top with a heat gun. And yes the wax is suposed to melt right to the edge of the container, you just need to test to get the right wick
  16. Thanks everyone for the info on waxes and sorry again for taking the discussion away from fragrances. I am trying to find a new supplier for my wax but am trying to still get the extact same wax(salsol) so i dont have to go through testing all over again.
  17. Hi, i only just spotted this thread but am so pleased that i did, i was drooling over the Natures Garden website a while ago and was so gutted when this wouldnt ship the the U.K, but now thanks to this forum i can now order the all the fragrances i wanted to order months ago. Also ( and sorry to high jack this thread about something different) - but would the U.K candlemakers mind sharing where they get their wax (parrafin and also thinking of adding soy) from and how much they pay for it to be delivered- i get my from candleicious- as he's local and i can pick the wax up myself but he has drastically increased his prices, so i need to find a new supplier, Thanks very much.
  18. Hi, i have been looking for some heart shaped glasses in the U.K too, without any look. Although i have found some heart shaped containers that would be suitable at candelights.co.uk here: http://www.candelights.co.uk/supplies/containers.html although they are a little expenive £2.99 (about $7) for 3 and the offer no discount for larger orders. If only we did have a Walmart here in the U.K- i have been in them when on holiday to the US, but even though Walmart owns Asda it is much much smaller and has nowhere near the range. I looked at their glasswear and and it is all just basic, nothing that would be good to pour a candle in. Natty Cat if you find anything suitable and wouldnt mind sharing please do and i will do the same i i find anything suitable, ( i only sell locally in the North East of England- well mainly just my home town- so i wouldnt be taking any of your business).
  19. Hi, I too thought BCN were not repling to my emails, but for some unknown reason they had been going into my junk mail box and i did not realise they were there just thought they were nnot replying. Have you check your junk mail box it could be the same thing
  20. Hi, could anyone reccomend anywhere online to purchase 8oz candle tins- i desparetly need to order some. i previously ordered some from candlemakersstore.com but they have put the shipping up. Has anyone from the U.K ordered candle tins from the US with a reasonable postage charge, or could anyone in the US reccomend anywhere. Thanks very much
  21. Hi, i'm from the u.k too. I was in search for a better method for melting wax too, i even considered binging home some presto pots ona recent trip to the USA, but decided not to after adive from ths board, i think it was NattyCat, who informed me that they would need an expensive transformer to work here. I also tried a slow cooker, i got one from Argos when they were in the sale, i think it was only about £15.00. But it took forever to even start to melt the wax( like 1/2 hour to see the first signs of it starting to melt). But you can get more powerful ones but i dont know if it would make a difference. Slow cookers have an enamel inner pot so it takes the heat a long time to get through to the wax. But if you could find one without enamel this might ork better? If you find a better option for wax melting then i would be really interested to know. Good luck.
  22. Hi, I'm from the U.K, but recently went on holiday to the US and whilst there stocked up on candle making supplies, including some of the metal molds from Micheals. The molds are the type where the upper part is welded to a sort of metal plate. I used used it for the first time and it started leaking really badly from the seam where the two parts are joined. I have still got my reciept but obviously cannot take it back for an exchange. Does anyone know if i am entitled to an exchange? Also does anyone have an email address for them i looked on the website but couldnt find one? Thanks, i would really appreciate your advice.
  23. Hi, i'm from the U.K too. I have ordered from bittercreek before too. There shipping cart for some reason overestimates the cost of shipping to the U.K. You can email them or ask on the online help, for a quote ask for USPS shipping as this tends to be cheaper. Also the candlesource.com is very reasonable for U.K. The candle making store.com is O.K. A good supplier in the U.K Is candleicious.co.uk Alan there is a really nice helpful guy so he may be able to find what your looking for.
  24. Hi, i was told by someone on here never to put the mold in the refrigerator as this can actually make the wax brittle and actually make the wax crack on top of your photo. Not sure if its right or not?
