1. Hi can anywhere reccomend somewhere that does a good Thierry Mugler angel type FO and that ship to Britain. I normally use JS and the candle Source nut none of these do it. I noticed that BCN do do Angel but there shipping to the U.K is a rip off they quoted $77 for 5 16oz FO. I also tried NG but they will not ship to the UK:embarasse If anyone knows of a supplier that will ship to the U.K, at a decent price and stock angel that would be a massive help Thanks
2. These are really nice. I would really like to make some of these- especially at christmas time. But i live in Britain and aroma bead are not avialable here and i dont think it would be cost effective to import some from the USA. Does anyone know if you could do some thing similar using just pillar wax. Thanks
3. Hi, just incase anyone was interest i email this customer back two days ago shortly after posting this message, i requested they email me some photos of the candle and of the damage. I was very polite but without admitting guilt. Anyway as of yet they have not replied! And i have a feeling they will not. So thanks
4. Thanks, i will ask them to email me some pictures- it was white wax by the way.
5. Hi, i sold an 8 oz candle tin over a week ago, the customer has had the candle for about a week and has just email me to say that after the candle had been lit for an hour hot wax spat all over. I test and test all my candles so am sure my candle would not do this, i so the customer could in fact be making it up- as they have had the candle for over a week. I don't know how to reply to them- this is the first time a customer has ever complained and i have sold lots of the same candle tins before with no complaints. Below is a copy of the email: I purchased the above candle from you. I gave it to my partner as a gift who lit it last night. after about an hours burning, we were horrified to notice that the hot wax had spat all over the furniture and walls, causing damage that could not be rectified! My partner was very upset. I'm not emailing you for sympathy, I just thought you might appreciate knowing what had happened, as I would imagine it will happen again to other customers of yours. It may just be this particular fragrance ??? It cannot be anything to do with the way it was lit as there is only one way to light a candle, im sure you agree. I await your comments I really would appreciate some advice on this- as i am confident in my products and dont see how this could have happened.
6. For anyone who makes wax dipped bears: do you normally colour the wax to match the bear - thats what i normally do. I have got a bear that i would like to dip- for a birthday prescent for a friend. It is a 21st birthday bear, he is wearing a white jumper with 21st written on in blue. It is a very light coloured bear. If i dip it in a brown wax to match the colour of the bear- then wont the jumper look a horrible brown colour. Is it best to stick with white wax- but mightnt the numbers on the jumper be covered up? Or can the jumper be put on after the bear has been dipped- would this be hard to do seen as the bear would be infexible once dried and it is a snug fitting wool jumper. Also would this not cover up some of the fragrance? Any help would be much appreciated on this dilema. Thanks very much
7. Thanks for the replies, i do use pre tabbed wicks but they still seem to fall out, i'll try the lighter method. Thanks
8. Hi, i have just switched to using wick pins when making pillar and votive candles. But after they are made and it comes to threading the wick through the hole left, how do you secure them to make sure the wicks cannot fall out? Thanks very much:highfive:
9. Thanks but i dont think we can get battery operated tea lights here in England, Thanks very much for the suggestion though
10. o.k do you know of any american websites that are selling it as for what the u.k supplier are charging for it - it might still work out cheaper importing it if i can find somewhere that sells it - off to have a look now, thanks
11. thanks - i think i may have found what i need - some one suggested it when i posted the photo cane in the gallery - its from a uk based website too This is copied from the site Clear Hurricane Crystals makes wax harder & longer burning, candle will retain its translucent quality, ideal for creating hurricane candles - 1 tsp. per 500g wax. Melt carefully on direct heat then add to double boiler with paraffin wax. Beaded format sounds exactly what i need
12. thanks so much ajl - the clear hurricane crystals look just want i need and in the uk too. MrsGrooms - the diameter of the candle is 3 inches Thanks so much for your nice comments
13. Hi, yes "Mozzie" it was alan who suggested that i use vybar, he is very helpful though - candleicious is where i get all my waxes from he is based in the same little town as me Please keep the suggestions coming, i am looking through all the candle making sites to try and find some thing suitable and i really dont want to give up on this idea - Thankyou
14. Hi, This is my first ever photo cane, i made it using plain salsol pillar wax as i cannot find hurricane wax in England. I have had a tea light in it for about 2 hours and there are a few wax drips on the inside . I have heard people saying they use an adative to increase the melting point, any suggestions of what to use and where to purchase it from? First one is lit, second photo is unlit, honest opionions please i dont mind constructive criticism:D
15. thanks- i will have a look about i can only order from certain american websites as not all ship to the u.k. but hopefully i can find one that will ship to the u.k that stocks something like this. I thought when my supplier suggested vybar that it wouldnt work but was going to trust him as he is very experienced - good job i decided to get a second opinion on here
16. Hi I made a photo cane using just normal pillar wax it turned out really well, but i can tell if i leave the tea light on for too long it will melt:sad2: Coming from England i cannot get hurricane wax, i am using just standard salsol pillar wax. I have heard that you can get an addative to add to the wax to raise the melting point - what sort of addative it is and where do you purchase it from? I contacted my wax supplier and asked him- he is a very experienced candle maker with a successful business and he reccomended that i use vybar - is this suitable to add to the pillar wax to raise the melt point enought to make hurricane candles? Thanks so much :highfive:
17. catseye- monkey farts is described as everything a monkey eats - mainly bananas but with hints of other tropical fruits. Thankyou everyone for the lovley comments- it gives me so much more confidence in my candles
18. Hi, thanks for all the nice replies, kaybee23- you are right about the colour of the banana, it was not meant to be that bright a yellow, but i have just switched over to liquid colours and it went slightly wrong!
19. Hi, this is my first time posting a photo, i've been making pillar candles for about six months, this is my first attempt at something different. Its a banana split one scoop of icecream is scented in chocolate, one vanilla, one strawberry. I scented the bananas in monkey farts as that is the nearest i could get living in England. Just about to start test burning now. I would appreciate your opinions please, as i'm not too sure if i like the way it turned out?
20. Hi, i have the same problem getting the candle out of a silicone cupcake mold. Do you just cut right down the sides with a knife or only so far down? Thanks
21. HI, i tried making some of these using whipped wax but they didnt come out nowhere near as good as yours, how did you get the texture to look so real did you add someting to the wax, is it whipped wax? Thanks, they are the best looking muffins i have ever seen
22. Hi, the only thing with doing this is that customs limit the value of goods brought in to the u.k when visiting the USA to £145, anything over this they charge you VAT and import duty
23. WOW, £120 pound for a transformer, NattyCat- i am so glad i read your post, as i was going to bring a presto pot back when i go on holiday to Florida in the summer. But at the price of the transformer needed i think i'll just stick to the double boiler method.
24. Hi, Yes and no, i made wax tarts/melts with it and melted a few in a burner and it still didnt smell anything like angel at all
