  1. Just found out one is in town, might visit tommorrow.
  2. Pouring & burning new scents. Lots o' citrusy waftage this weekend.
  3. Maybe your could fold a wick tab over, like a taco. Stuff the popsicle stick filling in, then use a stick'em as a holder to keep it upright.... or something....
  4. EZ Soy is tm'd by BC, comes in flake form. Although both of the waxes have the same mp's, they have different pour temps. I use a different soy. Of course I could be totally wrong here, but it doesn't seem like an all veg wax you have there (slab, high pour temp). At the very least, it's different from BC's EZ Soy. I looked for a MSDS on CCS's site, but couldn't find one. There is a Helpful Resources button on the left side of their site. Has some instructions, kinda general.I don't know what you're looking for in a wax, but if it was me, I'd contact them for instructions and specs so you know what you're dealing with. Just my opinion. HTH some.
  5. I've never heard of them till I read about them on this board. Too bad there isn't a smell-o-'net technology, I keep reading about their scents.
  6. Had a few moments to kill... I cut a 7-11 red plastic straw (ICEE straw) into three random length pieces. The longest being four inches. Melted some scrap wax. Carefully filled the straws with molten wax. Cut open the plastic straws with an Exacto knife. Waited too long to whip wax... so it became a nice crumbly smashed tater consistency, but still useful for sticking wax straws into. Dumped crumblies into votive holder with a wick (gotta see how this mess burns!). Jammed wax straws into soft crumblies. Pic. The removal would probably be a little easier with a wax that shrinks more, like votive wax. Metal tube might be easier to work with as well. Can't see in the pic, but the wax straws have nice shiny surfaces.
  7. BCN's EZ tips... candlesupply.com/EZsoy.htmlWelcome to CT!
  8. Yes, some people do make them here. I don't. If you type in electric candles into the search button above, you may find more info on them. There are some nice pics of the creations, and other details. HTH :smiley2: Welcome to CT!
  9. Some chemicals involved... http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howtos/a/aa052703a.htm For a little more zip to those candles... http://www.skylighter.com/skylighter_info_pages/articles.asp
  10. Could also be shipping in a hot truck. When I lived in Boston, I don't remember any oily seepage on their surfaces. Moving down here to OK, some of those candles look like they could use some botoxing for the sweating issue.
  11. Kohl's carries the Pyrex candle thermometer.
  12. I did an exp. similar to the about.com one. But it was a small, garden variety exp.. Only varying factor was fo introduction to wax. The hotter temp. did seem to have the more desirable hot throw as well as other results. Chemical compostitions, which Top seems to have alluded to regarding the fo, would definately need some attention in a more precise exp.. Namely b/c waxes and fo's have different structures than other waxes and fo's. A more detailed, controlled exp. is in the works for the future. About the terms, bind seems to be a laymen's term for the the chemical processes which occur. It seems that what really seems to be occurring is the heating of the wax encourages the solubility of the fo. So, that a feasible saturation is achieved. Ex: Hot water has a higher saturation point for dissolved sodium chloride than cold water. As well as ease of dissolvability in the hot vs. the cold.
  13. Assuming you would use water with the dish liquid, no. Water may encourage oxidation, causing rust. Might suggest something anhydrous (w/o water) to clean them. Maybe mold cleaner?
  14. Oh my!.... thank you for sharing gingerinarkansas, that post belongs in a CT museum!

  16. Hi Glitter! Welcome to CT! Here's a one link serving of FAQ for noobs... http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Discussions;action=display;num=1112822236 There is a place here in town that sells candles with glitter on top. Various sizes, shapes, and colors of glitter sprinkled on top of the wax surface (container candles). The surface also has shaped moons and stars, if I remember correctly. It's very pretty, I find myself just standing & staring! Haven't made any, so couldn't help there. Again, welcome!
  17. Very nice spring-y colors. Hope it all works out. :smiley2:
  18. That is a cute little container! Esp. the lid. Would look nice on a bureau. Getting to your question... IMO, with all the testing & anything I may one day sell, my initial question to myself is: Is it reasonably safe? And, can I back that up with a logical argument? Meaning, would I feel fine chatting (or selling it) to my (future) insurance person or attorney (about it)? If the container isn't feasible with constant heat and broke on a warmer, it may just spill wax. But, would that be good for your reputation? This is just my thoughts, but you gotta CYA!
  19. This link may help with searching. (Includes forum, archive, and google.) http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1802 There is a great deal of info in previous threads on how, where, and what people let their dormant wax do until it is transformed into something else. If you have looked, just ignore this. :smiley2:
  20. In addition to the basic wicking/burning guidelines, it may help if you just went and bought a non-dollar store candle. Since you're using paraffin, that should be pretty easy... there are many accessible lines of major brands. Not just a generic 'super-center' variety either. Well, I guess it could help to be informed on how those burn too. I'm not suggesting to imitate the way they burn, but it'll give you an idea of how they burn. As well as keeping informed of what strong/weak points that future customers may be comparing your candle to.
  21. Sabrina, good luck with increasing candle consumption over there! I'll be looking forward to the movie...
  22. Is there some kind of candle rationing happening in Europe?
  23. Mmmmm.... a big bowl of wax flakes sounds good for breakfast!
