  1. No, you shouldn't need to trim it during a burn. And if you're burning for 2 hrs or less and getting that much mushrooming you probably need to wick down and make sure when you trim, that you trim to 1/4".
  2. I usually try to test burn in 4 hr increments. I trim the wick before each burn.
  3. Happy Easter! I'll be filling orders for candles, lotions, etc. And making more milk cp soap. I'm really loving the outcome of these milk soaps. I've used cows milk and have made one batch using organic soy milk. Haven't botched a batch with milk so far....(keeping fingers crossed).
  4. The ones that I really like and using in candles are: Indonesian Teak Grapefruit Watermelon Leather & Lace Violet Musk Dogwood and several others I'm still testing. CP Soap: Indonesian Teak Grapefruit Watermelon - gets a very strong scent after curing.
  5. Pouring lots of soy candles and attempting my first milk-based cp soap. And trying to finish up the dreadful brochure.
  6. ok, dumb question here for you ladies that make cream soap. What is rotting?
  7. EMercier - If you bars have a rough top then the edge of your bar might not be able to get low enough in that corner. The lil shaver just takes a tiny sliver off the edges. Make sure and hold your bar firmly against the side and the bottom of the lil shaver. The edge of your bar has to be right down in the corner. Does this make sense? It's kinda hard to explain without being able to show you but it's very easy to do. Are you getting the edge of your bar in the corner of the lil shaver?
  8. EMercier - it's really simple, just line up or set the edge of your bar to the inside edge of the lil shaver and slide your soap across the wire. You can slide all the edges of your soap or 4 edges or however many edges that you want beveled.
  9. I use the embossing gun also. It does everything I need and it's less expensive.
  10. If you don't have a heat gun, try placing them on a cookie sheet and set in a warm (very low) oven for a few minutes. Take them out when just the tops are melted and you can pour off the excess you don't want. Careful tho, you might have to use a hotpad.
  11. I've seen some really nice looking pillars with a cigar band type made from handmade (textured) paper. All the label info was printed right on the paper.
  12. I think you have to test each combo again if changing part of the formula, such as the jars. The reason I say this is because a shorter jar might have much more success with consistency of formulas. But a larger or deeper jar acts differently the further down the jar it burns. The soot and scent throw and melt pool would be different with each combo and you might have to change wick size or FO amount. I'd test them all again if you are changing jars and looking for the best burn you can get.
  13. hewells, I ordered mine on friday night and I received them in the mail on Monday. How's that for turnaround time? LOL I also emailed them right before I ordered to see what size they'd recommend for my jar and they replied right away. Awesome customer service. geek!! I agree this is an great little device and the price is right! It's a must have for making container candles for me.
  14. I got mine today too! The medium size fits the 12 oz metro jars perfectly. These are great!!
  15. I think you can still register at the door. And it is this saturday - April 1st at 8 a.m. I sent you a pm Ruby.
  16. Hey is anyone else from here going to the 2006 SoapMaking Conference in Lansing Michigan in April? Looks like they will have a lot to show and teach us, I can't wait. It's going to be fun. There will be alot of suppliers there also, I'm not sure if their(suppliers) product will be there, or if they will have representatives. Maybe I can run into some other Michiganers that are going. It will be fun fun fun!! :yay: Suzanne
  17. How much FO are you using? And what are you using for color? I've been having good luck with the LX wicks and this wax in the metro jars so far. I didn't care for the ECO wicks for me. I'm still doing lots of testing but I think I'm pretty happy with the LX wicks. I've been testing the LX18 and LX20 in the 12 oz metros.
  18. I use one pair of the yellow dishwashing gloves, but I don't dip the bear when the wax is extremely hot. Besides burning your hands, if the wax is too hot it can kinda deform the bear. And for figuring how much wax per bear, I usually plan on 1 lb wax per bear. When dipping just one bear, I always have some left, but when dipping multiple bears of the same scent, it ends up taking up about all the wax. HTH
  19. I just wanted to let everyone know that I got a refund in full from the supplier I recently filed a complaint about via paypal.
  20. I use Green Leaf's whipped soy body butter and love it. The only thing I add is FO. It's the best whipped soy body butter that I've found. Has a very luxurious feel to. Very upscale.
  21. Thanks for the bbb.org link Mystical. I filed that one yesterday. We'll see what happens. If anything. I just want my money back. LOL
  22. Very true! I guess I trusted where I got the info from! I should of known better, huh? But anyways, the situation is much more serious than that. Hmmm, I wonder who invited him to this board and the dish where the complaints were posted? Nevermind, that's not important.
  23. Who knows? Maybe to much time on his hands! Or maybe he's doing something else with the lye other than making soap. But all this behavior from him just puts icing on the cake! I still want my money back! LOL
