Yes, oils play the largest part in my honest opinion, with wax being next.  Some do perform better in different blends, but in order to be consistent if selling in the future and not being like TCS from batch to batch, vendors settle on the same wax blend for all of their oils they offer. KIMG0378.thumb.JPG.2e948d87b7b164c9bdd0ff742a7337d3.JPGThis was my last batch .Looks nothing like the shreds I have received in the past .

    Thats exactly what I've gotten.

Good luck to you as well!  The 129 puts you back to one supplier once again though and I believe some stated the 129 is close to an IGI wax, cannot remember off the top of my head at this very moment.

Thanks! Simplify, right? Now if only I could do that with my fragrances, lol!

My understanding is that the 129 is IGI's 4625, just CWs in house run of it. Same with the 125, that's IGI's 4630.

Love  129 for many scents😁 If I get a scent that 129 will not take well ,most of the time I can use the scent with the 4630&4625 blend. I always wait for a shipping discount code and grab a couple of cases at a time , otherwise ship is very costly to South,Tx. I sometimes add just a tiny bit of 4630 to get a creamier melt ,works for me . I read this tip on here awhile back ,makes a nice tart in appearance . I love many of CW Ultimate & Bold fragrance oils as well. I used to love TCS tart shreds ,but now getting a completely different wax will definitely keep me from buying their wax .I just wished the wax would not change in between shipments ,such a waste of time & money .Not sure what the issue is with TCS on the tart blend ,but would love to find out .If anyone can help us out on this subject ,please chime in .

I already use their 125 for my container wax, I mix it with EVERYTHING, lol. I did like the 129, just wish the slabs weren't such a PITA. But as Lovely pointed out, I already use CW so it makes sense, plus I live close enough that I can pick up big orders and save that shipping $$$.

The more CW oils I use, the more I love them!

  3. @lovelyscents and @katmeltswax, my wax came in the tear shaped nuggets. I've never gotten it in the shreds before. @Ravens posted just yesterday that she stopped using this wax because she felt like it had changed for the worse. Maybe she had been getting the shreds? I have also heard that some people have gotten it in slab form.

I agree that inconsistency batch to batch is a big issue and definitely worrisome. Why does wax have to be so complicated? I just want my house to smell good! 😭

Lovelyscents, I have no idea what those particles could be, I'm pretty clueless about additives.

As far as salvaging the rest of the wax, I think it mixes pretty well with just about everything, so maybe a container wax would improve the throw? If you have any 464, I'd try that 50/50 and give them a good long cure to see if that helps.

    Good luck!

Now I'm thinking maybe I need to give the CBL129 another chance...

P.S...  I believe his name is Alan (Peak Fragrances)...he needs some serious help developing his website!!  Sorry...but he could use GoDaddy, Weebly or others and come up with something a little more user friendly.. Just my opinion.

Did you read the threads on Peak at all Gary?

you may want to check them out...he needs help with more than a website 😂🙈...just my opinion

    It's like a soap opera!

Easy for me to say, I'm sure, since I never used anything from them.... Hits a little harder for those that depended on them as part of their business supply chain.

Either way, a good read and a reminder that it's important to never have all your eggs in one basket. 😦

Sorry, I didn't want to re-open the topic, just wanted to point Gary in the right direction! *hiding*

I use the Problend 650 (fine grains) and mix it with IGI 4786.

May I ask what the problem is with the TCS shipping and website?  Have not visited there in a long, long time.

    Thank you! ;)

I'm sure it hasn't changed in a long, long time!

I think perhaps I'm just spoiled by all the sites with beautiful pictures, drop down selection menues, and costumer reviews. TCS has a very basic site that I find boring and cumbersome to navigate. The scent descriptions are terse or non-existent. They have little selection, and the shipping you have to add in yourself or wait for them to send you a separate shipping bill. Their shipping rates are on the high end as well.

That being said, I do love that wax, and the FOs I've tried from them are fantastic throwers.

  6. Your colors are so vibrant! Beautiful!

Does Lovespell ash for you? I've tried it from a couple different vendors, and both gave me heavy ash within 12 hours. I still use it though, my Lovespell blend is one of my most popular soaps. It's like the wet spots on the candles, no one seems to care but me! 😄

  7. Thank you for sharing @Ravens!

I love to read about what other people are using, you never know when it will point you in the direction of something great. I'm a big fan of the TCS tart wax, but as @Belinda and I have been discussing, their website and shipping practices are odd and make ordering from them difficult.

I use quite a few of Flamings fragrances, I've been looking at their waxes as an alternative to TCS. Are you using the Pro Blend 450? Is it in pellets like the TCS wax, or fine grains like the 133?

I don't think it is, but they didn't exactly put their markers on anything.

Thanks, I think I'll send them an email and ask, I would really love to soap it.

I've been burning the test candle, oh wow!! So good! It's my new bedroom candle! 😏 Lol

@Jcandleattic I just talked to a lady at Candles & Supplies and asked about a Black Friday sale.  They are going to have one!  Yay!  Plus she said they have a good inventory of the jars on clearance I wanted to order, so I am going to hold off.

I asked about the quality of the special scents and she  named some that are strong and told me a few that were light.  That was nice and honest of her.

Gail, when I went to C&S and sniffed their wares, I thought that most of their fragrances were very similar to the same fragrances from NG. Maybe they use the same distributor? Or fragrance company... Not sure what they're called but you know what I mean. 😃

I think you've mentioned liking NG fragrances before, so maybe that will be useful when it's sale time!

Up here in the Great White North (Canada) lol...we are very limited to suppliers. For us..to order from the US is expensive and takes time to receive the order.  We do have a large fragrance supplier though and I do believe they do have a US location.  Their FO's are inexpensive, but I find they seem to cater more to the Soaping crowd.  Anybody tried New Directions Aromatics?

I have never ordered FO from NDA, but I have ordered some B&B supplies from them, and a few essential oils. Their quality is excellent. I recall that their FO prices were very competitive and some other items were great if you buy in the larger quantities. Of course that's true for most suppliers. Don't they have a minimum order requirement though? I think that's what turned me off from them.

After trying multiple blends of all kinds of waxes, I finally got a handle on my own Frankentart wax!  I ended up using 50/50 of 4630 & 415, and added stearic acid to  harden it up, since these are both container waxes.

It pours like a dream, no bumps or divots, and HT within 2 days is amazing for most of my FOs.

Nice! I would worry about the stearic affecting the throw, but it sounds like that's not a problem for you. What % FO are you using?

I tried again with the KY133 last night, this time I skipped the soy and addded 30% 4630. Added FO at 180, let it cool to 140... still bumpy on top. ☹️

I'm not trying to sound like a brat (ok, I'm a brat!), but I'm not doing a second pour for tarts! The throw is just fine, so I'll use up the rest of this 133 for my personal tarts and to test fragrances, but I'm not going to re-order.

I did discover that if you put enough glitter on the top of the tarts, the bumps look like part of the design. 😉😄

I've been ordering a lot from Flaming recently, I'm tempted to try their pillar blend. I think it's the pro blend 450? Anyone tried that?

@Belinda, I agree, the shipping for TCS is weird, it's not too expensive for me, but I'm a lot closer. I just find their website so clunky and awkward. I will say, I've tried half a dozen of their FOs, and they have all been excellent. If the pro blend from Flaming doesn't measure up, it will be the TCS wax for me, and I'll just add a few fragrances to make it worth it!

  12. ...and it was all for me! 😆

I loaded that baby up with two different humectants, hydrolyzed rice protein, and kokum butter, plus some BTMS 25 as a co-emulsifier and because I love that skin feel. Four different fragrances. Plus a KG of shampoo and conditioner for me and my girls, in everyone's favorite FOs. I had the best shower last night! 😋

Man, I love being able to make my own B&B products, they feel exactly the way I want, they perform exactly the way I want, and they smell exactly the way I want!

Plus it was nice to make some stuff for myself instead of stuff for the business.

Body lotion and body butters are my favorite product to make for myself. What's yours??

  13. HI Tammy! Everyone on this forum is so helpful, you will learn so much!

Definitely get comfortable with the search function at the top, there is so much info on here, it will really help you find the answers you need quickly.

I would recommend as a starting point to find a reputable supplier near you, buy a case of reasonably priced jars and a few different 5 or 10lb bags/slabs of wax, a sampler of wicks, and one or two FOs to begin the learning process. Spend some time learning how to heat, when to pour, how to wick, and the burn characteristics of each wax. Once you get a good candle, add fragrance to the mix and see how it all changes! Personally, I wouldn't worry about finding fancy (expensive!) containers and fragrances until I felt like I mastered the basics on candle making. For me, that took just under a year. Why waste money, is my motto! 😁

Enjoy the the process too, that's so important!! This is a fun and addictive craft! 😄
