  1. Ah yes well I will post a pic soon, my camera and computer are not speaking again, have to reload software. It does smell good I'm still trying to figure out where I was that I smelled it before. Sami
  2. I think a bottle which would be designed for liquid should hold in fluid ounces where say a jar which is for solid forms may hold by weight. But who knows the 4 oz tins from peaks only hold about 3 oz wax which is liquid that becomes solid. :undecided I have no idea where to find the answer except maybe call the supplier and ask what they measured to get the 2 oz, or if you already have them measure out 2 oz of water and see where it fills the bottle to, it probably should come just to the bottom of the bottle neck. Sorry couldn't help more, Sami
  3. I made a bohunk scrub! So far on my hands it feels nice, just a touch greasier than I like but I think it will be great on my scaley legs. I got the recipe down in grams because my scale likes those better and made about 16 ounces total. Got it into 2 8 oz jars and 2 4 oz jars. The oils all came from the grocery store, the coconut is in the organic section with their bath and body stuff, supposed to be used straight on the skin. Recipe I used: 40 grams e-wax 32 grams stearic acid 4 grams cetyl alcohol 15 grams castor oil 66 grams sweet almond oil 75 grams unrefined virgin coconut oil 100 grams extra light olive oil 28 grams mango butter 28 grams shea butter 8 grams wild zingerberry tea (has anyone else noticed this fo smells like a clean public bathroom?:undecided ) 4 grams optiphen 60 grams turbinado sugar Melted everything but the last 3 until clear, poured into my kitchenaid and let stir for a while then stuck my bowl into an icewater filled bigger bowl for a few then whipped for about 30 minutes. Nice and creamy consistency then added the last ingredients (hand stirred in the sugar). Let it sit for a few hours and jarred. Sami
  4. I got the Cool Water type from BCN a couple weeks ago, haven't tried it in a candle yet but in m&p soap it's a very good dupe. I wear the cologne so I'm making some b&b stuff to match it. Sami
  5. I don't have much experience yet but may be able to help, have you added any scent to the soap? I noticed that some fo's will cloud the clear from a little bit to not clear at all. Other than that I'm not sure what would cause this, are you sure the soap isn't hot enough to start melting the toy? Hopefully someone else can help if it's not the fo, Sami
  6. Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? Ecosoya 135 Additives if any? none Preferred dyes? none, yet Preferred wick (Not sizes)? LX (haven't tried any others, yet) Pouring temp you recommend? 100 What you do to prevent frosting? nothing, not sure if I've seen any What you do to prevent rough tops? haven't had any Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? haven't had any that I can see, using 4 oz tins Still working on my first candles, got the wax, wick and container right, now if only the scent would cooperate. Sami
  7. I don't think so, I'm testing tins and even when I overwicked on purpose I still had a thin film on the sides that you can only see once the container has cooled down. Sami
  8. I would! I haven't made any soap yet, waiting for little one to start school (come on august). My dad likes little projects like this so I think it would be a good way to keep him from reorganizing the garage again and I'd be all ready for soaping. Also about the plexiglass, if it's possible to do a complete mold with it, I think it would be much lighter full of soap. Sami
  9. I've been wondering about this too. I'm testing the 4 oz tins and noticed I can't get a good hot throw in any room except the bathroom. I think my problem may be the 8 foot ceilings throughout the house, they add 10% more square footage to a room. We also have an open floor plan wihich makes it even more difficult as well. Anyone else have any imput on room size vs. hot throw of same size candle? Sami
  10. So salt is said to soften the water where sugar doesn't? Interesting, we have horribly hard water here and while we have a softener (can you say slick?) some people couldn't afford to have them put in. If the above is true, I may have just found a sub-market to handle both types of scrubs, or at least a practical excuse for buying bath salts. Sami
  11. Thanks everyone, I think I will let them cure another week and test again. (After I ran the test I started my m&p soap and I think my nose is currently fried) And it's not like there aren't many more cucumber melons to try out. Sami
  12. Where would I find out the max fo load for Ecosoya 135? I looked at the manufacturer page and several suppliers, no one seems to have a limit listed. Reason I'm asking, I've got Peaks Cucumber Melon at 3%, 6% and 9% and still no hot throw. Great cold throw even at 3%. Should I just give up on this fo? or let it cure more than 6-7 days? Help please.... Sami
  13. (disclaimer: I haven't sold anything yet) I would make sure to have it somewhere on the invoice, bill etc. that the customer signs that she removed, refused warning labels for the candles, maybe even go so far as to have her initial next to the statement. Make sure you keep the original and she gets the copy. I don't know if this would protect you but it would be worth it just in case. Sami
  14. Haven't tried with soaping oils.... but as far as cooking, for an oil you want to keep its flavor/properties such as olive you can do it this way 1. fill a mason jar with herbs pour oil over them, seal the jar and sit in the windowsill for 2 weeks. and with the possibilities of losing some flavor/properties you can do it this way 2. heat the oil to just warm really, and pour over the herbs in a mason jar and wait a couple days. As long as the jar stays sealed til using, the longer you infuse the better Sami
  15. Well I see this was a good topic to bring up! Let's see if I got this right: Stick blender - soap, lotions hand mixer - lotions, scrubs, some butters stand mixer - lotions, scrubs, butters, meringue, souffles, homemade cool whip (sorry got a little off track there) I'm gonna check out the local bed bath and beyond and actually look at all the different models and options, then look online for cheaper pricing And why oh why does that absolutely freakin gorgeous copper colored ka have to be 200 dollars more?!?!?!? Thanks everybody, Sami
  16. Thanks everyone, I'll have a look at the sunbeam, going to walmart tuesday anyway! Harry Potter yay! (I'm as bad as my 4 year old I know) Sami
  17. I have decided to start saving for a mixer, and have been reading reviews on the kitchenaid artisan (325 watts, pretty colors), have you guys experienced any of the problems that amazon reviewers have? Such as; the mixer bogging down or overheating? (That appears to be the breadmakers complaint and I don't think I'll be mixing anything that dense.) Do you have a problem with the mixer not reaching the sides and bottom of the bowl, leaving unmixed ingredients that need to be hand mixed in? ( I think this would be a problem with things like body butters) Any reviews or help, or suggestions on another mixer would be great. Thanks so much, Sami
  18. Well being as person who hasn't touched a real eo yet, I'd say you take the extra steps. I think people would become lax or just not bother with properly diluting and such, would they even bother with a scale or any measuring? Much easier to be safe and do it for them, then to depend on strangers. BTW, what is Reiki? I've heard that word several times and have no clue. Sami
  19. And to think I just ordered on the 26th I think it was grrr. Sami
  20. Ok I so need to get some decent colors, gorgeous soap. If you'd be willing to share instructions, I'd be willing to take notes. Sami
  21. Well I have to call that a happy mistake, market it towards teenagers, they'll love it. Sami
  22. I think I have now checked everywhere and am still going to use 2 suppliers, oh well, at least I found some sweet almond oil at the grocery for cheaper than I could get it shipped ( I also found walnut, hazelnut, sunflower, safflower, going to try a different store and see if they carry the macadamia, apricot kernel and avocado) Tip: for anyone just experimenting with different oils try the brands Spectrum and International Oils in the baking or organic section of the grocery store! Thanks so much guys, Sami
  23. Is there are supplier that carries Optiphen, stearic acid and cetyl alcohol? Everything else I need is available in the co-op so I'd love to be able to cut out at least 1 order. Any suggestions of where to try would be great. Thanks so much, Sami
  24. thanks so much, good thing I already use the extra light olive oil for cooking and have it around. Sami
  25. Ok well I'm planning to eventually make Bohunk's 14 but I have some questions: I have some expeller processed non hydrogenated organic coconut oil I picked up on sale at the grocery, it's a white solid, it's been in the 50's and 60's temp wise here, so what is it? 76 degree or virgin oil? Can I use this in her recipe? Also can I get my olive oil at the grocery? Which one do I look for? I like the sound of the Optiphen preservative, this would be acceptable right? I'm making a small batch to learn the process should be somewhere just under 16 oz when I'm done, so I'm not worried about large amounts of anything and would like to avoid shipping anything I could get locally. Thanks so much, Sami
