  1. Personnaly, I like the flare out the fillmore one has. I almost used these as my candle jars, but couldnt get over the cost per jar to justify using them over a salsa type straight sided jar. This: http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/16-oz-Straight-Sided-Jars-83-CT-P17.aspx?c=1 is only $.54/jar before shipping vs this: http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/20-oz-Anchor-Elite-Jar-P125.aspx?c=1 which is $1.25/jar before shipping. Granted, the is a 4 oz size difference, but I cannot justify 1.5 times the expense per jar
  2. Yes, because their 4 oz apothecary jars arent anywhere on the net either. It is very plausible they have theirs specifically made for them.
  3. Thanks Oilphoria! Watching the video now
  4. I am very interested. I am in the initial phases of marketing my candles, so how do I get people to click on my Pinterest pins or how do I setup groups on Facebook? I need to start advertising my items
  5. Can you point me where to start researching ecommerce sites? I plan on opening an Etsy shop within 3 months, but would also like to point people to my own online store someday. I only sell candles I make here at home, but know nothing about how online stores work, costs, how to obtain my domain name? etc etc I saw an ad for https://www.wix.com and followed it. It seems pretty user friendly, but what type of site is this and is this what I am looking for in a beginner model online shop?
  6. Ive never heard of Ocean mist, nor as a floral scent. Who carries it?
  7. Of course I do! And I would love to meet in person and see some of your items. Im sure I could learn a lot from your valued expertise
  8. Westbrook! On the outskirts of Portland What part did you originate from?
  9. I would be very uncomfortable putting anything more than what I already have. Under the main business name, I have "Made in Westbrook, Me." Then on the sides of my tins I have email address and one other social media address. If someone needs to contact me because I sold a few candles at a craft fair there is plenty of options IMHO. Im am such a small potato at this point Im jump up and down when a family member asks for a candle ive made rather than buying from our local YC. So until im competing on a larger level, nobody will know my home address lol. Sorry, thats a bit rediculous to ask someone who is small timey to include a personal address for any psycho to come look for me because my candle didnt smell enough, or whatever the reason.
  10. What do you mean by "location" on the warning labels?
  11. Same here Moon. Maine is dropping to that or below during our nights now. Have had a few "almost" frost mornings D:
  12. Im going to chime in here as I only use 4627 and mostly food themed FO's. I purchase my wax from Candle Science, here: https://www.candlescience.com/wax/igi-4627 the price comes out to $1.68/lb BEFORE shipping. If you find it anywhere cheaper please let me know. I looked long and hard and CS had the cheapest prices and I trust them. On to the FO's. I use Red Hot Cinnamon and Blueberry Cheesecake (smells moslty of just Blueberries) both from Candle Science. i use them both at 11% and my basic method is to heat the 4627 wax to 170*, add FO and stir while heating wax to 180* and pouring. Keep in mind I use metal tins so I am not pouring at temps to minimize wet spots, I just use this method after researching 4627 and reviews on this method seemed to yield great results. So far, my Red Hot Cinnamon and Blueberry Cheesecake are amongst the top 5 heaviest throwers I have out of 30+ FO's. Macintosh Apple from CS is in that top 5 as well. I would suggest buying a few 1oz bottles of your food FO's from another vendor and trying again. Ive purchased the same FO from 5 different vendors and only have one that yielded positive results. Just last night I made a Kentucky Bourbon tester. OOB the fragrance smelled divine. Made me want to run out and buy a bottle of Jim Beam whiskey lol. After making a tester with 11% and the above method of melt/pour, I took a whiff this morning and almost couldnt smell a thing. It was definetly there, but not as strong as it was OOB. Its either going to be a dud, or take a few days/week to cure. I dont typically need a cure time longer than 24hrs with 4627 to determine if its a keeper, so sadly this one just may be a loss. Too bad, because I was going to pair this with the Cabernet Grape I have to make a his/her gift box. Hope this helps in any way. Any questions feel free to PM or if OP doesnt mind leave here
  13. Put them up for sale? May I ask what size bottles you used and where you would sell them? I have literally an entire cabinet drawer full of 1oz bottles Ive gotten from the 4 FO sites I buy from. If it is weak OOB to me it wont work and I set it aside. I must have at LEAST 50 1oz bottles of various FO's sitting in that drawer that I probably wont use. Making candles is a very personal thing to me. I suffer from a deviated septum on the right side of my nose. I have lost all sense of smell from that side and will need surgery in order to correct it. Then a few years back I rescued 2 kittens from a nearby kill shelter. Turns out Im highly allergic to them and my other nostril because of this is chronically blocked. I use a nasal steroid to give some minor alleviation but its like putting a band-aid on a severed limb. My point is I guess, I had to always throw away store bought candles because I just couldnt smell them. So I set out researching ways to make my own candles that I COULD smell. I tried Soy wax, didnt work. I then stumbled upon a review of Comfort Blend 4627 and saw that it can hold up to 2oz/pound. I gave it a try and so far Ive gotten nothing but positive feedback from testers about the scent throw. /end personal story lol
  14. Good lord, is it just me or does Sweet Cakes' prices seem higher than average? Ive never used them nor looked at their site but I just did. The prices for FO's seem rather steep IMO. Not sure I would have any wiggle room to make profit with my FO load and those prices.
  15. Where do you purchase your Lilac FO from? Ive Fillmore Container, Candle Science and The Flaming Candle. Each of these Lilac is only about mid level strong OOB and light HT. CT I dont have issues with. The rose isnt as bad as i previously thought, its burning now in my bathroom and is low side of medium, but still medium. No matter what i do for Lilac though I cant get it to throw hot.
  16. I have a ton of FO that throw very heavy and in your face for HT&CT. I have some that are a nice even, mid-level fragrance that are strong CT, but stay more mid-level for HT. Then, I have a few that are great CT, smell nice in the jars, but throw a lighter HT than my others. And the ones in question are mostly floral fragrances. In particular, Lilac, Rose, Japenese Cherry Blossoms with Pine Needles being the one that isnt floral. My question is, are there fragrances that are naturally light on HT and do customers know that when buying candles? I think the worst case scenario as a customer would be to smell a candle and have it be something you go to the till and purchase with a smile. Then go home and light it and it throws only lightly. Thoughts? If needed, I use 4627, with fragrance loads usually around 11%. 4, 8, 16 and 32 oz tins and only premier wicks. i test using 8 oz tins and have my wicking pretty solid, going up in a size from what I currently use wouldnt change the throw.
  17. Lol, I agree but I guess my question didnt come through so clearly, forgive me. I dont drink any Chai flavored drinks, so I have no idea what "type" of FO it would translate too. I see your description of citrus peel, clove buds, spices etc etc. My question is, does that description translate into a "Coffee" type smell for the nose or is it something more literal to your description. Ive always known Chais to be a coffee drink served by coffee shops, but Im really not sure if citrus peel, cloves and cinnamon spices translates to a coffee FO. Now if that makes ANY sense you win the prize for the day lol
  18. I will chime in on this one as TFC is also my go to source for most of my FO's. I usually leave Kentucky Bourbon as it and do not mix. I do not drink alcohol, but this fragrance alone makes me oh so thirsty when I am making a batch. Out of control delicous so I plan to leave as is for now. Also, the Cabernet grape is another that makes me want to go out and buy a bottle of booze lol. Im thinking of labeling this one as Red Red Wine, paying a small tribute to the UB40 song from the 80's. Ahh, the nostalgia just hit me like a dump truck Balsm fir, the closest ive come to finding a "true" Christmas tree FO. Will be a permanent addition to my line. Also, Downy April Fresh is one of those "clean type" that smells like fresh dryer sheets. Made my house smell suuuper clean and fresh. Love it.
  19. Is Chai a coffee type flavor? My kid drinks the stuff and it always looks and smells like a coffee type drink. I just got done making a tester of Flaming Candles "Caramel Machiatto" Its smells like a good coffee type FO that will go well with my Hazlenut Coffee Fo I got from Candle Science. The Hazlenut FO from CS is now my strongest FO out of the 30+ I have planned. It is insane how strong this is, so much so I will be dropping a few % of FO load because its that intense. Chai could be in my next shopping cart list of Flaming Candle orders! Let me know how it turns out ya?
  20. I wish I was able to use a more natural product like soy, I tried for 6 months to get soy to throw the way I wanted it with no luck. I gave up for a while then read some reviews and tried some 4627. Although not as natural as soy and twice as messy as any other wax, I cant belive the HT and CT this wax is capable of.
  21. Thanks all for the feedback, Im leaning towards leaving the wax as is. This will also allow me the freedom I want for my label colors as they are more antique, vintage colors and matching those with dyes has been fruitless. Im glad I asked you folks and now feel better about leaving them as is.
  22. I am toying with the idea of leaving my candle wax in its natural color. i have some very unique label colors, some pastel, some 'burnt', etc etc and matching the candle wax to the label colors isnt exactly going to happen. The problem Im having is my OCD (lol) is flaring up if I have a Lilac colored label and the wax is a few shades of purple off. To me, it drives me nuts so I am toying with the idea of just not coloring the wax. If anything, I was actually thinking of coloring them with the white dye chips I have and making them as pure white as I can get them. It might give an upscale look, I dont know. White candles just always remind me of the boring, plain candles they had at chruch lol. Do any of you NOT color your wax? If so, what types of reactions do you get from customers? Also, if it helps or makes a difference, I use metal tins. You couldnt see the color from the outside anyways, so this was why I am deciding this route in the first place. Thanks
  23. Can you link more specificaly where the instructions and/or recipes are? All that link does is link me to more links for online retailers
  24. Not sure if I am any where close to anything here, but would this work to add maybe some clay, walnut shells and limonene? Then mix all together?
  25. Dang, I have no idea what you just said lol. I have zero soap making experience so I will have to get my ring and decode what you just spoke about. All I am trying to do is basically make a really thick "paste" comprised of whatever base plus walnut shells, and a bit of D-limonene as a de-greaser. The best way I can describe it is to link the item Im trying to duplicate, although I doubt many of you have ever used it seeing as its mainly a bathroom staple in mainly mechanics shops, warehouses. http://www.zepdistribution.com/product/zepprofessional/walnut-paste-industrial-hand-cleaner-with-scrubbing-shells
