  1. Just poured this scent, and boy is it awesome! Smells just like the real thing, imho... So good, I just had to share!
  2. HenryK, I used my sample of CBL-129 w/ Peaks Pink Sugar (1 oz pp) and let me tell you this thing THROWS!!!! It shrunk quite a bit, but no wet spots or anything. there was a thread not too long ago about the CBL-129... I'll see if I can find the link for you. I've also got some J223 that i got off the classys here... i've only mixed it w/ soy, not tried it on its own yet. it seems like a great wax to mix w/ soy so far. Don't know if any of that helps, but i do try! Edited to add: Here's some links to previous threads: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26130&highlight=CBL-129 http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21490&highlight=CBL-129
  3. Hi there Ginger, I've tried the same combo, and had success with 70% CB135 and 30% J223. The burn seems good, the throw is great (JS choc. chip cookie dough). The first time I poured, I poured at 150*, and it didn't set up well- tiny tiny bubbles all over the sides, so I re-melted in the oven at 170* and let it set up in the oven- much better. Really, use whatever percentages you feel like, IMO. Part of the fun, i think, is seeing what happens with different percentages... HTH,
  4. Peak's BRV is awesome! The throw is incredible, and it smells great!
  5. When I was first starting out I sent them an e-mail to see if they would send me some samples... Bill was awesome, they sent a couple of different ones- their CBL-141 and CBL-129. If you've ordered, I'm sure they would be greatly inclined to send samples!
  6. I've been experimenting with mixing J223 with the CB 135, only made one so far... I got some J223 from the classy's here when I was really frustrated w/ the 135. Not a bad result at all, I lit the one up for the first time tonight while chopping onions in the kitchen, scented Choc. Chip Cookie Dough from JS. Seems to be throwing really well, looks pretty good, too. I poured @ 150*, but I think I'll pour cooler next time. HTH,
  7. I also got my best results adding fo at 180* and waiting to pour until the wax cooled to between 115* and 110*... So far, so good, using those temps.
  8. Why not ask? The worst they can do is say no, right? Unless you think you may jeopardize the free shipping??? You didn't mention if there's no shipping b/c you pick up, or what the deal was... As long as you can maintain your free shiping, I say go for it!
  9. Hi there, and welcome to the Board. You'll find an amazing group of very helpful, knowledgeable people here... You will probably get a much better response to your post if you post in the "gel" section, rather than there. Also, get to know the search tool at the top of the page, it will easily become your best friend!
  10. It took me a minute, but HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!:highfive:
  11. I use the same wax (CBL-141 from Candlewic), and mine often look like that after the first pour... I pour right next to the window in the kichen... well, my kitchen is so small that everything is right next to the window! LOL! So, it's probably that you're pouring next to a vent. Hope it gets better tomorrow!
  12. Well, nothing as exciting as you pros, since I just make 'em for me (and the occasional mom or MIL). I'm going to try a blend of J223 and EcoSoya CB 135, and see what happens. Wasn't getting great scent throw with the plain ol' 135, hoping a little J223 will help. Also, may pour a few pillars tonight, haven't done 'em in a while as I've been concentrating more on the containers and the 135 problems. That's in between vacuuming the house, washing the floor, etc... DH works weekends, so he just left- time to get busy!
  13. Perhaps try a different type wick... From what I understand, Zinc cores burn cooler than most of the others. Candlewic recommends LX, RRD, CD, HTP... perhpas your melt pool isn't getting hot enough? Maybe a more experienced chandler can chime in on this one...
  14. I only used this wax once, but here's what I did: I used 1 lb. wax, 0.5 oz Pink Sugar from Peak. Poured into a qt. widemouth mason jar, as it is just a tester for me to see the properties of the wax... I followed Candlewic's instructions precisely, heated to 180*, added color, then fo, then poured into preheated container. I have a CD-16 wick in there, and let me tell you, after about 10 minutes now, the throw will kick you out of the room! I had this one at my office for one day, and one of the women said she could smell it all the way down the hallway on the other side of the building! I used the spec sheet from Candlewic as my guide : http://www.candlewic.com/candle-wax/PDS-CBL129.pdf HTH,
  15. I think most people just purchase blank sheets of card stock and make their own... I don't even know if you can even buy pre-made hang tags. I know that a bunch of card stock at staples, office depot, etc. is fairly inexpensive, and it's easy to do yourself. HTH,
  16. Any recommendations for must haves? I'm about to place an order for some other stuff, and can't resist adding some fo's to the cart! TIA,
  17. That really is the example of a perfectly burning pillar! RF- the name makes me chuckle every time I see a post of yours:laugh2:
  18. I think the CD wicks work best with the CB135... I've recently begun playing around with this wax, and the CD's have performed better in terms of throw than the RRDs, and the paper cores for me so far. Don't forget that this is JMHO, and I've been having issues of my own getting throw out of the CB135... HTH, at least a tiny bit! PS- I saw a thread a couple of days ago in the general section re: poor hot throw with LX wicks... you may want to check that out, too.
  19. One of the many things I've learned from the experts on this board is a great method for testing wicks in containers-- pour the candle w/o a wick, let it cool and set up. Then take a skewer, wick pin or other simiilar object, and poke a hole in the center of the candle, then you can just pull a wick out of the sustainer base, and shove it in the hole to test! You can heat gun the top to seal the hole if you want, but I usually just leave it. That way, if your first wick is not working, you can blow it out, let it cool a bit and yank it out with pliers, then put another one in. Let me tell you, these people are genuises! This has been a life saver! If not for this technique, I would have wasted A TON of wax! HTH,
  20. Nat, If you don't mind sharing,,, what type of wick do you typically use with your CB135? I'm in the testing phase with this wax, and can't seem to get a hot throw... Thanks for any help!
  21. it's coloring and setting up pretty well, but I'm getting little to no throw. The cold throw is ok if you stick your nose into the container, but there's no hot throw. Here's what I've done: 9.5 oz wax, approx. 0.75 oz fo, which is roughly 8% (Vanilla Velvet from BCN); heated to approx. 175* (oops, didn't write the exact temp down. Bad tester, bad tester, LOL). Added ivory dye block and fo, cooled and poured at 110*. Put into oven to cool slowly. I made this candle on April 20th, lit for the first time yesterday, so 10 days cure time. First burn, I used an RRD 34, which was too small for my container (approx. 2 1/2 in square). Today I tried an RRD 37, still not looking good, still no throw. Now I'm trying a Paper Core 44-24-18. I figure I'll go through all of my wick sample packs trying to wick this damn thing. Any input anyone? Perhaps the RRD's and paper cores just don't play well with this wax? I'm running out of ideas... Any help would be greatly appreciated! You guys are always so helpful! TIA,
  22. Ok, so I melted to 175* and repoured at 150*. Covered with a cardboard box to cool, left overnight. No cracks, which is great, also no frosting. Only problem is that it looks like some wax stuck to the wick pin, and a small chunk came off the votive when I removed the wick pins. This happened on both votives that I poured. The only thing I can think of is an air pocket? Other than that small flaw, they look pretty good... I will try some more with the rest of the sample... I think pouring at 150* is definitely working the best for me. Who knows what I'll try next!
  23. Ok- Here's what I did: 4 oz. wax 0.25 oz. fo (Warm Van. Sugar) 1/2 Peaks maple dye chip Melted wax and dye chip together to 180*. Added fo at approx. 175*. Poured between 155* to 157* into room temp. molds with wick pins. Cooled at room temperature, which was 72.5* at the the time. DID NOT cover. There was the tiniest bit of shrinking. Ended up with very small cracks near the wick pin as others have described. In one I had a larger crack which looks to be an air pocket. I had some wax left, so decided to do a little re-pour. Heated to 170*, poured shortly after removing from heat. Silly me, forgot to check temp, and I probably poured too hot. Anyway, now I've got larger cracks, enough space for a fingernail to fit in... Going to melt and re-pour at same temp as yesterday, but cover the molds with a box this time to see what happens. I'll keep you all updated! Unfortunately, I can't get a decent pic with my camera, so I can't show you...
  24. Hey there, Good for you! It looks great, and I bet it smells awesome! Glad you're getting what you wanted!
  25. Candlewic CBL-141: 50 lbs, $61.30 with shipping from PA to NJ ($1.23 per pound) EcoSoya CB 135: 20 lbs, probably $32 or $33 with shipping from PA to NJ ($1.60 per pound), but I ordered other things, inc. glass, so its hard to say what shipping for the wax itself would be.
