  1. Thanks again everyone. You all have made my day! Donita - had no idea that Vanilla Voodoo was in the Academy Award baskets! I just love it!
  2. Beautiful - what an inspiration! I'm looking forward to your class too - wish I could do it "live" but can't unfortunately. :undecided
  3. Thanks for the nice comments! And yes, Anjie - you're exactly right! It was SO exciting when I slid that candle out of the mold. Felt like a little kid!
  4. Gorgeous! I love the rich brown colors too - really gives the whole display an elegant look that sets your candles off beautifully. Congratulations!
  5. I got the postcard from A Jar Store too... Maybe several suppliers are selling mailing lists. I've never ordered from Candle Science...
  6. Those are really beautiful!!
  7. This is my first rustic pillar, and my second pillar ever - usually do jars, votives, tarts. I finally got a chance to try my hand at them, and I want to thank all the experts here that so generously share their expertise! Any suggestions/critiques, etc., are more than welcome. This is scented Vanilla Voodoo from Candle Cocoon at 6%, IGI 1343 with stearic, WSP's ivory dye in half the wax. (The camera flash washed out some of the "rustic," though.) Thanks for looking!
  8. That's beautiful!!! It makes me think of Mardi Gras...
  9. I use it too, and love it. I get good throw after a couple days' cure, but longer cure just makes it better. I use zinc wicks with it, add FO at 180-185, stir and pour.
  10. The Scent Works' Full Moon is wonderful for a winter scent. I do a white on white swirl CP soap with ultrafine glitter on top. The scent is very strong, soaps well, and is really good in paraffin candles too (haven't tried soy).
  11. I'll chime in too and say Peak's is wonderful! I also really like Indiana Candle Supplies (ICS), and she ships USPS as well. Might want to check that out too.
  12. I'm no expert - only been making candles for a little over a year and a half now - but I use 6006 and zinc wicks. This combo is working great for me. I've also used KY parasoy blend (not the perfect blend) and I loved that wax, but can't do the shipping out here to WA.
  13. Those are great! I wear reading glasses and have looked and looked and looked for something just like these! I bet lots of others are looking for them too.
  14. Brambleberry has little tiny ones, 1/4 ounce, plastic. http://www.brambleberry.com/packaging.html
  15. I totally agree with Lindsay! Shrinkwrapstore.com is awesome! They also have the POF bags, which are food grade and don't get that skunky smell (so far I haven't had any smell with these at all). I got the impulse sealer there too. Lindsay - that's a great idea about bumping up a size on the bags! Thanks for the idea!
  16. I've never tried this on a candle or on glass, but I used to use "UHU office pen" glue stick from Office Depot on my whipped shea and sugar scrub jars before making a final decision on labels. It dries super fast and sticks when wet and doesn't wrinkle the paper! It's great glue for all kinds of stuff. Hi Dee (remember me from the kitten episode?)!
  17. You can use the cheap throw-away food storage containers they sell at the grocery stores too. Since they come in all sizes, you can get small ones (one for each fragrance) if you only have a few melts to store. I've used these successfully. Also, if you do use other plastics, the ones with the 5 in the triangle on the bottom I think are polypro and won't suck out the scent. You can buy polypro bags at various candle suppliers too.
  18. I use Paint Shop Pro - costs around $100. It's a good program for those of us who can't really justify the cost of Photoshop. Grumpy - I think Photoshop is still up around $600 or thereabouts.
  19. I've wondered about this too... All the shrink wrap sleeves/bands I have stink like a skunk, especially if they get too warm. These are PVC - for lip balm and whipped shea. I have some shrink wrap bags for soap that I got from eBay, and they don't seem to have that odor. Don't know what these are made of. There is PVC and POF (polyolefin). According to shrinkwrapstore.com, the POF is food grade and produces far less odor than PVC. I haven't tried this yet - has anyone else? http://www.shrinkwrapstore.com/store.php?crn=83&rn=337&action=show_detail
  20. I grow chamomile and calendula for oil infusions, along with peppermint, parsley, sage and thyme. I'm looking to add Rosemary too. I've never used chemicals on any of my plants, ornamental or edible, so I've never tried Miracle Grow. I use compost almost exclusively, and it does a fantastic job for me. I amost forgot - Lavender! I grow lots of lavender...
