  1. Describe the bottle and label. Is the bottle tall with a flat top or rounded????is it clear or brown....is it plastic or glass. Is it short and squatty and tall ? Is it square (only know of one co. that did these and they weren't anygood in anything I bought so it can't be them) So the company label is seperate from the FO scent label? ...is it clear or white? like the size of an address label?
  2. I 2nd Just Scent....really good!
  3. She didn't say they asked her to do a knock off! "one of my compettiors sites and there was the same candle.that they were creating with me. " Now that I reread this I'm a little confused....you were working with a competitor to create this candle????? Why would you be doing that???
  4. I agree......they came to you. You did nothing underhanded and should accept the order. Karma always has a way of showing up and the good guy is the one who wins!
  5. Sniff some coffee grounds to try and clear your nose.
  6. The smell is completely off and often triggers a gag reflex OH, I've had DH do this to me and he's not that old!!!!!!!!! :laugh2:
  7. Darbla, I don't know if I ever asked you this....do you know where Southland Florist is? My cousin, Paulette, I think owns it. It was her mom & dad's (my aunt Betty & uncle Paul's) and I know she took over running it so I assumed she owns it now. It's on Hardy St. across from the cemetary. 3 of my mom's sisters lived in Hattiesburg and my grandmother. I grew up playing hide and seek in that graveyard and riding my cousin Anita's two seater bike down the huge hill at the back of the cemetary across from the ball park. If I would ever leave New Orleans it would be to go to Hattiesburg.....hay any Tiger sightings?
  8. This was one thing I was adamant about teaching my kids....own up to your mistakes and learn to say "I'm sorry". People will respect you more.
  9. There are a few I have like this one. Red clover tea from Missy's....had a big following...ordered a bunch for stock...and bam all of a sudden no body ordered it anymore but it's still a fav of mine. I think I still have a pound of it and it's still good. These are all in those white plastic bottles. Not one of them has a split in them...unlike BCN bottles that split after 1 year. Vanilla's are the bad group in school. They make soap brown....they cause wick issues....but they comfort so well!!!!
  10. Well, I poured some Mardi Gras FO I bought from Missy's Candles (the original not the Mr. rebirth) at least 7 years ago. I have it burning in my living room now with 2 ceiling fans and the throw is unbelievable. No change in the scent whatsoever. My oils are stored in my warehouse which is out of sunlight but is subjected to the temp. variables here in the deep south. OOB the oil smelt fine so I thought I'd try it since I had 2/3's of a # bottle and was making some Saints candles for Sunday's game...so the scent seemed appropriate. I figured it might have lost some of it's ummph but not a lick. Great quality oils I guess last forever. This is one reason I miss Missy's so much.
  11. yeah the storm did a number on those Chalmations (yea some place other than the frickin' 9th ward was destroyed.........imagine that) but they are a strong bunch of people and it's coming back!!!!
  12. When I used a hard wax I actually used a sugar cane machete and a hammer. Then I bought a 70# wax melter and the slabs fit in whole...that was a life safer.
  13. Cool....And another SE La girl....whereabouts? North or South of the Lake? East or West Bank of the River? Jefferson, Orleans, Tangipohoa? or are we talking true Bayou girl from Houma,Thibodeaux? Welcome!
  14. I really couldn't jack her around with the price too much cause I have that posted ...price per pound of wax, price per scent but I did say an extra .25 for each additional wick she wanted. That would have been a nice .22 profit on each one. I guess I could have added an additional $20 rush fee but I really didn't want to bother with being rushed. I too hated turning down a job but I don't want her to think everytime she needs something I'll be able to do it in a couple of days. My regular's that bring me their glassware know it usually takes me a week or more (depending on if I have to order the scent) and they don't have a problem. And for them I will do it in a couple of days if possible. Sometimes I hold it for a couple of days just so they can have some cure time.
  15. This woman, Crystal, worked with husband at a limo service and they had an account with a hospital that did treatments for women with breast cancer that were flying into town. They ordered a bunch of pink candles for me to pour into their provided glassware. The containers were square with approximately a 3" diameter. She wanted 2 wicks and I told her I didn't do two wicks because for something that size it would burn too hot and throw off the scent. Well, her and hubby split up and haven't heard from either of them for a good 2-3 months. Well, she calls up today. She works for another limo service and she wants to drop off some more jars (no clue what they look like) maybe tomorrow afternoon, wants them double wicked cause she didn't like the way the other ones left wax in the corners, she wants them black (which I normally don't even put any color in my own candles cause of the wick issues but I hate making black candles anyway (whole voodoo thing and all) but this is the kicker...she wants them for Friday morning to give to clients for the Superbowl. I told her impossible since I hadn't even seen the jars, she couldn't tell me how many or how many ounces each of them were to give her a definate quote and I didn't have black dye in stock and wouldn't any time soon. And with that short time frame I wouldn't be able to guarantee the quality of the candles since I wouldn't have time to test them with the dye if I even had it. Haven't seen the woman in months and she wants me to jump thru hoops for her! Hell, if I'm making any Superbowl candles I'm making them for me!!!!!!! Hay, I need to do that!
  16. I just got this one in and what perfect timing. I lost both my huge vines to the recent freeze (even tho I had them heavily covered). This fo is so close to the actual flower it's amazing. Throw is perfect for this type of scent. Not too strong (like an abnoxious jasmine/gardenia) and not too light where it can't even be smelt. This will get me thru the season until I can see if mine will even come back.
  17. Do you have a shop? If so, then burn the pear. I sell more stuff by what I'm burning in the shop at the time. Or make tarts and give out samples if you don't have a place for them to smell it burning. Sometimes people are hesitant to try something new but if they know the end results it's a sure sell. Personally I love pear & pomegrante from JS. Two of my favorite scents combined in one.
  18. Definately test in all the different time alotments. Especially burn for an hour and blow out and cool and relight. If you don't adjust your wick while it still has a melt pool when it cools it can lean over and then break your glass the next time you burn it. I say test only so you can tell your customers what not to do. So you can honestly tell them what's gonna happen if they do it wrong. Also test if you trim your wick or not cause people are famous for not buying the candle quenchers I sell and just blow out a candle and never trim them properly. My wick self trim to an extent but not all the way. IMHO, votives are the hardest ones to teach a person "how" to properly burn. People think it's a frickin' candle ...you light it and that's it. I've actually had people come back to my shop mad cause the candle only burnt for maybe an hour. I was so confused cause mine are 12-14 hour burners. After a few questions I found out the idiot had put it on a plate like a pillar candle. Gee fool....can't imagine why I sell these little glass things right next to the votive candles....morans!!!!!
  19. I also use a heat gun but I was thinking a heating pad should work okay...you could actually turn the jars upside down so the inside would stay warm.
  20. Me and my customers are hooked on JS's chamomile & lavender. Most don't like the normal soapy lavender smell and this one smells exactly like the Spa Aromatherapy Sleep that B&BW carries. Very Very relaxing.
  21. A company that stands behind what they sell and corrects their errors and admits they made a mistake....perfect example....wrong scent was in my order....I sent an email and the correct scent was shipped out the next day without a mention of me sending the other one back and I got an apology! When DH and I opened our businesses the main thing we believed in was customer service. We said if we can't provide a good product with courteous and timely service we don't even need to open the doors. We treat our customers the same way we want to be treated when the shoe is on the other foot. We must be doing something right cause that was 18+ years ago and we're still going strong.
  22. I agree with everything TOMH said plus....give to someone else to test. You could have slight candlenose plus you're wanting to smell them too much. When I first test a candle I put it in my 1/2 bathroom with the door shut. After an hour I open the door...if it has a great throw there I move it to a room with no ceiling fan and no a/c vent blowing. If it's on a day when I don't have the boys I put it upstairs away from me and go check on it in 20 min. or so. I like to see if it greets me going up the stairs.
  23. HOw precious!!!!! Is that applique or stitched? Either way she's very talented.
  24. I use a soy blend...best of both worlds. Less hassle with just soy and better burn then paraffin. Triple scent is a marketing ploy...don't fall for it. Wax can only hold so much FO and no more...if it could hold 3 times it's a weak FO to begin with. If that's on a supplier site scratch it off your list to use. There are way too many out there that are reputable with excellent FO's. Just to name a few: Just Scent Nature's Garden Cajun LoneStar Tennesee WillowWoods Alabaster Peak The list goes on and on. Look for tutorials on this and other boards and read read read. Get books that have been listed as good reading. Be ready to spend $1000's on testing wax, wicks and then the endless line of UPS trucks bringing you boxes upon boxes of scents....that line will never end...believe me...at one time I had well over 900 scents available to use. I've drastically dwindled that down to around 300. Only chandlers are that crazy about that many different scents.
  25. When I read the question I instantly thought...."At a witch shop???" lol the cold has my mind on a different level today!!!!
