  1. Mine seem to be smooth out of the mold, but after they burn and cool, that's when the cracking happens. Not sure what to do about that, maybe move them under a box or something to keep them warm? Oh well, still haven't figured out how to wick the little buggers.
  2. I'm using soy too, Naturewax V-1, for votives, and I notice they crack too. Kinda irritating... just got a sample bag of it, not sure if I want to get more.
  3. Try here too, pdevine posted this in a gallery thread... http://www.firstimpressionsmolds.com/
  4. Hi, I have a bag of Nature Wax V-1 and I am trying to wick them. I used about one ounce per pound of Creme de la Creme and a couple drops of coffee color. The 44-24-18 isn't enough wick for these votives, and I have no idea whatsoever what to try next... I have a sample pack from Lone Star with some LX, CD, ECO and HTP wicks. Any suggestions??? I don't know enough about wicks to just stick something in there, and I have 5 votives left... please help!? Thanks so much!
  5. That looks almost exactly like the horse emblem on my Mustang! I love it!!! How did you make the mold for that???
  6. That's pretty neat... is the horse made of wax too? Or is it a stick on type thingy?
  7. There's another votive swap? For some reason I thought it was tarts... if it's votives, count me in!
  8. I will try that first, before I start the mixing thing. Not sure I can do that without making a huge mess anyway! Thanks!
  9. I got a bag of soy votive wax, and I read here where they tend to crack. I was wondering if I can mix a little paraffin container wax in there? I don't want to add a lot, otherwise I'm sure it would cease to be a votive... or would it? Sorry for the dumb question, and thanks in advance for any ideas!
  10. Sorry guys, I've been on vacation for the last week and didn't take all your fine candles with me! I'll be posting more reviews as soon as I can!
  11. 1. Make sure to wear gloves when holding a mold under the spigot on the Presto pot. That wax will heat up the mold FAST! 2. Make sure spigot is turned to CLOSED before you hear the wax flowing out onto the floor. 3. Make sure to spray the molds with Pam before adding the wax, especially when making hurricanes. 4. Do NOT use a knife to get hurricanes mentioned in #3 out of the mold when Pam was not sprayed... the mold will be ruined. 5. Do NOT pull the wick pin out of a palm wax pillar before it's cooled off. The wax WILL run out of this hole. Also, do NOT unmold said pillar before it's ready. 6. When pouring one ounce samples of FO into the Presto pot, do not let it slip from your fingers into the pot. If this happens, do NOT reach into the wax to get it, especially palm wax that is 200 degrees. 7. When a mold is in the oven to be cleaned, do NOT reach into the oven and grab the mold without gloves. It will burn skin. Also goes for pour pots and glass containers.
  12. I'm thinking you might want to try the wax that comes in granules or flakes. I'm not sure about parrifin container wax, but I think there's a soy container wax that comes in flakes. No cutting, just scoop it out with a cup and put it on your scale, no worrying about slicing another tendon! Or, you might try votives, I know Peak's has a votive blend that comes in a nice bag that you just scoop right on out. And I haven't yet cut myself with a votive mold...
  13. I noticed in another thread how some of you melt the wax in the presto then mix the scent and color in a pour pot. I'm wondering how much the wax cools during the transfer and before you pour? Does it matter? Thanks for any info!
  14. Are your molds spotlessly clean? It seems to me that there's some sort of imperfection in the mold. Maybe run your finger along the inside and see if you feel anything. The mold might have leftover wax or maybe a small gouge in there somewhere.
  15. LOL You used my Quik Quarter newspaper for packing, how funny!
  16. Got mine!!!!! Wish I could take the rest of the afternoon off!!!
  17. I had mold sealer wrapped around the spout to help prevent leaks, but there's a little tiny mountain of wax starting to grow right underneath where it screws into the pot. Any ideas on how to seal that up? It gets pretty warm right there... thanks for any help!
  18. I suppose I can wait another day... but 2 is going too far for my excited impatience!
  19. That mold should be fine, if you use a tealight inside. To use a votive, I'd say go a little bigger.
  20. Ok, lemme know! The mailman very well could have given it to my evil neighbor... it's happened before!
  21. I'm getting a little worried... haven't gotten mine yet! I'm real close to Texas... I hope the mailman didn't steal it for himself!
  22. I haven't tried, yet but I'm interested in seeing your results!!
