  1. Those are gorgeous!!! Sorry for the stupid question, but what happens to the embeds when the candle burns? When it gets down to them? Do you peel them down so they don't catch fire, or does it leave a shell when it's done burning? Thanks!
  2. I haven't had that happen before, they always turn out nice. Maybe yours cooled too quickly? I keep a cardboard box to set over the top of them so they cool slower. The room I pour in is always warmer than the rest of the house.Don't know if that makes a difference, but you can remelt those and try it.
  3. I got mine from http://shop.candlesandsupplies.com/candles/category.asp?catalog_name=Candles&category_name=All-Natural+Waxes&Page=1. I've made votives with it, and a few pillars and I haven't seen a crack anywhere. I might now that I said that though... I've noticed that there is usually a hole or two on the top near where I poke the relief holes, but that gets covered by the second pour. I don't know anything about tarts, but just thought I'd throw you the link, in case you got yours somewhere else..
  4. I poke holes as soon as there's a film to poke through. I keep going back every few minutes to make sure the holes are still open. I tend to go down to the bottom of the mold. I keep doing this until no more wax comes out through the second hole. And I do pour to the top to where it looks like it's going to overflow. But, I haven't gotten down the 2nd pour yet, I still tend to make it over the edges, as the wax doesn't sink in the center like paraffin! (Maybe I'm poking too many holes??) I'm still real real new to this, but this is my experience in making a few dozen...
  5. My palm pillars shrink right up, no need to have help unmolding. In fact, they shrink up quick, before I get the repour done!
  6. Hmm... I've made a couple of dozen palm votives, and they've all turned out great. I poured at about 200, poked relief holes, repoured. They are all fine, except where the repour goes down the side of the mold.
  7. I use the wick pins. I can't imagine trying to wick those things without them! I have a problem with a few of them being crooked, and occasionally I'll get a tab that falls right out of the bottom (after I've trimmed the wick GRRRR), but other than that, they're awesome. I don't care about the gap, it goes away once it starts burning!
  8. WHOOPS!! I meant he found the heart-shaped glass at Wal Mart, not the wax!! If he'd found the wax there, I'd live there LOL:D
  9. I used a few drops of red liquid dye from the Cajun Candle Factory. I think I used 3 drops in 40 ounces of wax. It looked nice and red while I was stirring! mystical_angel1219, it's paraffin wax. IGI-4630, and yup, my hubby found it at Wal Mart, he thought I'd like it, and he was right! And for once, I overwicked. I've had a heck of a time trying to wick soy votives made with Cargill's NatureWax. Oh, the other 2 containers seem to be burning great!
  10. Chestnuts and Brown Sugar is the reason why I started making candles. I love that scent so much!!! The wax is IGI-4630 Harmony Blend. These wicks are VERY sooty, is that because they're too large for the container? I got a full melt pool across the whole container with maybe 1/8 inch around the outside in like 45 minutes! Thinkin' I'm gonna wick down some...
  11. My hubby found this cute heart-shaped glass, and I found two glass jars in the kitchen. I was going for a red color, but it turned out pink. They're scented Chestnuts and Brown Sugar. I know, the color doesn't match the scent, but I wanted the heart to be red. I think the heart is wicked a bit too high, after a few minutes, I have monster flames (not in the pics). They're CD-16. Anyway, did I do ok with the wick placement in the heart? Thanks for looking!
  12. Well, you're supposed to let it burn for a while. I think it's an inch per hour, but not sure if that's for containers. You're going to be looking for the size/depth of the melt pool, size of the flame, if there is any hang-up on the sides of the jar. I'm sure I'm missing a whole bunch of stuff, but I'm sure some of the more experienced people will help you a whole lot more!
  13. I'm sure everyone has had those days, but don't give up! You already know what you need to do... find one or two things, and test those until you have them perfect. Don't get frazzled trying to master everything at once, cause it won't happen. Just keep on trucking!
  14. They are embeds, it's not hard to do if the stars and the sun and earth are aligned in the perfect fasion.... if not, they don't turn out at all!
  15. I like Just Scent and Lone Star Candle Supply's scents... I hear the Cajun Candle Factory is good too.
  16. Yup, I have been busy... I have one mold! BTW, my dream car is an old, maybe 69 Mustang Fastback... maybe I should make a cane with one of those... Thanks for the replies!
  17. Thanks! The one on the right is for one of my Mom's friends. Belated Christmas present...
  18. Here are a few hurricanes I made today and yesterday. The two stacked in the middle have two pics embedded, that's why I posed two pics... so you can see each side. They turned out really well, which confuses me because over the summer and fall, I had to remelt several quite a few times to get them to turn out! Darn things, I guess they like the cooler temp in the room...??? They were tough to get out of the molds too, which scared me, but they didn't get scratched. Strange...
  19. Still beautiful! What scent is it?
  20. I wonder how the bottom would look dipped in plain white paraffin?
