  1. Oh lol. The tops (of the whole whopping 2 I made) don't seem to come out smooth. I guess it's the tiny amount of wax that goes past the bottom of the wick pin. When I pop it out, there's just a teeny rim of wax on the bottom of the mold, guess the base of the wick pin is just a tad small. There's also a chunk missing on that one where I knocked it against the mold, I was so excited to pull it out, I wasn't paying attention lol Thanks for all of the replies!!!
  2. I thought the bottom of the mold was the top of the candle...? I poured the dark brown layer last.
  3. Burn pics... I've never seen a pillar burn before, so I don't know what to compare it to. It's cupping in towards the top, teeniest amount of bulge. This is right after the 2nd 4 hour burn. This is good right? Or should the walls be thinner by now? They're about 1/4 of an inch thick, as far as I can tell... (the pillar I have burning in the background I got at hobby lobby, but it hasn't been burning long enough to tell.. I bought after the first burn!)
  4. Your wife's pretty cool! I actually like the green, reminds me of split pea soup YUM!
  5. How much FO are you using? I might try upping it a bit. And burning until you get a full melt pool each time. JMO
  6. Thanks so much! I've got another one cooling, and I ordered a few more pillar molds. This might get addicting... (I've been doing mostly votives and a few containers, but these rustic layers are just too cool!) Oh, if you see anything wrong, let me know. I can take it
  7. Personally, I find a better scent throw with my votives with the zinc. I like how they stay straight and don't curl, and I don't mind the 'shroom. Some of them are very interesting! But, take my opinion with a grain of salt, cause I'm new at this!
  8. My first try at it, and I'm so excited it worked!!! May not be the prettiest candle in the gallery (by far!) but not bad for a first try maybe? The only pillar wax I had was the 1274 mottling wax. I added some UA, as the wax is only supposed to hold 5% FO. Scented Chestnuts and Brown Sugar. Woohoo!!!
  9. I also love the smell of racing fuel and burnt tires!!! Let me know if you come up with someone who has those scents... tried before to look for burnt tires and even ordered a candle that claimed to have that scent, but nope. Not even close. Nothing better than a day at the track with the smell of racing fuel and a fog of tire smoke! Sorry to hijack...
  10. I would try calling the supplier. Maybe they had a bad batch...?
  11. You know... I put some 4794 into some big molds at one pound per cause it's so hard to break chunks off, and it didn't pull away from the sides. Had to heat gun it to get it out. Hmmmm...........
  12. Any votive wax I've tried... which is 3 lol. JS granulated votive blend, Peak's granulated votive blend (no longer available), and IGI 4974. They blow Harmony Blend, Greenleaf's 70/30, and Cargill's C3 (all container waxes) out of the water with their throw. I just don't get it! I've upped the FO's too!
  13. It's probably my wicking. I haven't met the aliens yet, but I'll try the tin foil hat! I need all the help I can get!
  14. I'm not sure if my head is screwed on right or what... but... seems to me like out of the several paraffin votive blends out there that I've tried, they ALL give me outstanding throw compared to the container blends. What's the deal? I've tried a few paraffin container blends, a soy blend, a straight soy... nothing comes even close to the votives. The votives can scent up my office and the main area it is attached to. Any of the containers... not even close. It'd driving me nuts! Maybe I'm just picking the wrong wicks... or waxes... I just don't know... I thought votives were supposed to throw a lot less than a container.
  15. Wick up=bigger wick Wick down=smaller wick
  16. Just Scent is awesome. Their oils are excellent, and you can't beat their customer service. Same with Peak's. They both send free samples of FOs, and they both email back very quickly. On my last order from Just Scent, I got like 4 free samples. I have so many samples, I don't know what to do with them all!
  17. Well, Kaplan is still quite a drive and I haven't made it out there yet. I'll have to check their stuff and see what they have... I ordered some dyes from them a while ago, so if they have what waxes I want, gas may be cheaper than shipping!
  18. I'm no expert, but I have a suggestion. Try pouring them cooler or letting them cool more slowly. Some people put them in the oven (with the oven slightly warm but turned off). Some put a cardboard box on top of them. It may help... in the meantime, you can heatgun the tops to even them out.
  19. I have a candle warmer that I use for stuff like that. The oven doesn't smell like FO for a week!
  20. Try this: http://www.candletech.com/calculator/
  21. I weigh the wax before it goes into the pot, then add FO and dye right in there.
