  1. I brushed it aside for a number of years as well, but with costs being what they are, no more. I can understand the volume thing if prices were adjusted accordingly, but when a bottle has quite a bit of space at the top and still doesn't weigh out, that makes me furious. If you think about it, for every 16 bottles of FO that's an oz. short, they are making an extra $14-16 free and clear. I've had some 2 oz. or more short, so I'm guessing that they are getting 3 lbs extra if they buy in 25 lb increments. Perhaps that's how they keep everything at the same price... I'm a bit obsessive about checking weights and I've recently noticed shortages with oils, butters, and other soap ingredients as well.
  2. You'd be surprised how often this happens from a multitude of suppliers. Some I suspect aren't accidents... We used one long-time, VERY well-known supplier for fundraiser scents and at first, could never figure out why we'd run out of FO and have to rush another order in...until we finally started checking weights on the bottles. It's no wonder they have such great prices. If a supplier sells by weight, I expect 16 oz. for my money. Some oils are lighter and won't weigh 16 oz. even filled to the brim. (For all my other gripes at times with prices, I do have to give DS kudos for sending one of their scents in 2 8oz. bottles to give you the correct weight.) IMO FO's should be just like any other ingredient we buy...we base our costs on weights for everything else, so if FOs aren't based on weight, 9 times out of 10 we're shortchanging ourselves with pricing. Just my 2 cents...
  3. I'm no help since I don't use them, but just wanted to say Hi and Welcome. I remember you from the old Scent Review.
  4. Is it possible to set up and play around with Zen Cart offline? I've been wanting to try it and have a bit of wasted time out of the office each week when I have a laptop but no internet. It seems I saw something at some point where I could install it on the laptop on some kind of server thing, but I'm clueless.
  5. Wick n Wax, just wanted to say sending a prepaid box is a wonderful idea in order to get it back to test. I never would have thought of that so just wanted to give you props for the idea in case it is ever needed.
  6. 4 presto pots at various degrees of age from ancient silver to new insides range from smooth to nearly all the teflon scratched (inherited it this way) no spigots black bits in all all types of wax transfer with metal ladle
  7. Are all the scents skin safe as well? I know they all say soap and candle, but several of them look similar to other supplier FOs that aren't safe.
  8. Cracking is caused by FO breaking down the plastic. I store leftovers for personal use in various plastic cups from drinking glasses to souffle cups. Sometimes, when I get around to using them, they will be mush and the plastic will practically dissolve in your hand (or at least tear open) while other times they are cracked from top to bottom. Not all FO's have the same effect or time line. Sometimes you can see a reaction in days, other times it may be weeks. Knowing that customers sometime hoard their goodies, I can't quite trust them over the long haul for tarts...though life would be much easier!
  9. Drat! I just paid $150 for one. Mine did come with 2 lights so maybe that will make up for it.
  10. sheesh...I just noticed it says only the first 100 clients receive it for $250...what will it be after that???
  11. Unless the same person wrote her press release, I'd say that's a no. And the price is the same there as well. I know...go ahead and say it...I'm going to h*ll...but this is one time I just couldn't help it.
  12. is it REALLY disturbing that this person is selling a set of 3 lipsticks and a lip liner for $250 , yet can't properly end a sentence or use correct grammar...not to mention the website as a whole... http://www.valuxurybeauty.com/Shop.html
  13. I don't think there is anything I hate worse than a supplier who tacks extra charges onto already ridiculous shipping. If I suspect a box was overcharged, I head right to UPS/FedEX to find out for sure and that supplier loses my business if at all possible. When I give them the benefit of the doubt and use the high retail rate (knowing that many of them have accounts) and they STILL charge me an extra $2, $3, $5, $30+ onto shipping, they are out. And to top it off, a certain supplier who I question their ethics over the past few months, overcharged for UPS by at least a couple of dollars AND used a wrong-side out Priority box to ship in. Sadly, things like this are becoming more widespread across suppliers.
  14. Yes, it means just 1 bottle per package. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of it. The FP of pure denatured alcohol that I've been able to find ranges from 48-57 deg F. By the time FO and other ingredients are added to make perfume, the FP averages 78-100 using the lower alcohol FP. I'm thinking I still don't want to worry with perfumes.
  15. That might not be too bad. I've received 2 others the last couple of weeks with similar setup. You had to make and ship the product to them and give them a 40% consignment fee. So for only 10% over wholesale, you had to pay shipping/packing materials to them and have paypal fees deducted when they send your money for weekly sales...all for a product that might not even sell to their customer base. I find it interesting that both of these new companies are owned by people who also own candle/bath/soap businesses.
  16. Thank you! I offer flat rate shipping of $5.50 and give out coupons for 20% off. That didn't work too well with single perfume orders at 20% off and Fed Ex shipping of $7-9 for one tiny bottle so I had to discontinue them. I have seen one box from an FO supplier come in with the ORM-D sticker on it. I can't remember which one. I think the only other FO's I've gotten by mail had FP over 200 so maybe that's why. All shipping has gotten ridiculous. That recent USPS increase was just over the top...Fed Ex is cheaper in most cases that I've taken the time to compare.
  17. Mind sharing? I discontinued alcohol products because of the worry over USPS.
  18. I received 2 emails from 2 separate sites (the one above included) and I'm not on a secret pal site. From what I could tell it is all drop-ship for this one. I don't know what percentage they take, but I doubt it would be worth my time and money to get involved with either one. The other one was consignment.
  19. Soy and I don't play well together so someone else might have a different review, but I got nothing out of Ginger Krumkake and GB 415.
  20. If you have a nice sized picture of the product in a grouping or whatever, like on a main page, then use pictures that represent the scent, I'm fine with it. If there were no product picture at all of the style I'm looking at, I wouldn't even look far enough to find out the scents.
  21. I agree. We are currently stuck with a wholesale customer that expects every order to be "rushed" through...whether it takes working 72 hours over the weekend or whatever to get it out. They are huge and growing every month so I can't afford to tick them off too much, but after a couple of split shipments, they do seem to be "trying" to do right. I would have saved myself alot of sleepless days by being firm from the start since I'm the one who pulls the all-nighters. The help gets nights off.
  22. Why not just Daisy Kaye? Leaving off "candles" leaves you open to pursue any other product imaginable!
  23. An honest customer would have took the iniative to tell you about the mistake, would have been thrilled with 15% off, then would have sung your praises to all when you surprised her with 30% off. I had a similar situation, (though not $100 for $10!) and that is exactly how it was handled...with a much larger order in the end! Granted, after giving her the higher discount, the profit was about the same, but I scored points for customer service that are well worth the additional work and felt someone that honest deserved it. In your case, I wouldn't do that. You're right...not worth it to take it to those boards. I know it's tough, but ignoring it/staying away is for the best. I wouldn't even read the comments and let them get to you. I would say that an order without products noted isn't a valid order anyhow!
