  1. Thanks, Top, for your thoughts and the explanation. I always wondered what caused those circles! I am inclined to believe it is a high percentage of paraffin as well even though I just had another jump into my cart this morning and have the hang tag. Capitalization is theirs, not mine: On the front it says: 3-Layer Scented SOY Candle On the back it lists the Benefits of SOY: Clean Burning, Long Burning, Environmentally Safe, Biodegradable, Highly Fragranced, Supports America's Farmers, NO LEAD WICKS I'm only in the top layer so I'm not sure how the other scents will perform, but so far it is very strong. It looks like a tiny wick, but reached a full meltpool very quickly for the size of the jar.
  2. from Walmart! It is an 11 oz. three layer candle in a cute jar with black metal lid...for only $6.00. I bought the cookie version and so far the top layer is really strong. Now my question is what kind of soy or soy blend could it be. With my limited soy experience, soy can look opaque but have grainy spots at times...a matte appearance. This is super creamy, smooth, shiny, soft and oily. When I looked in the jar before burning, it reminded me of one of the one pours I tried, but which one escapes me...maybe the J300 or something. The top has circular patterns in the wax...lighter circles and the centers are darker, about the size of a pencil eraser, some larger, some smaller. Hope someone knows what I'm trying to describe. :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: :smiley2: I'm sure they are using their own top secret wax, but does a similar animal exist in the waxes that are available to us?
  3. I second that...the seams tear or leak, or the bag starts splitting in streaks or they just have pinholes tear open all over! I highly recommend freezer bags. I thought the generic brand from walmart was best, but in the last few months they have gone to the dogs...thinner, split, won't zip. Target brand was the same as the old walmart style, but my last 2 boxes are getting more like the new walmart duds and have similar problems to a lesser degree. Glad was my third choice, but they will spring pinholes, too, if you aren't careful. I think with rising costs, the manufacturers are going to a thinner, less heavy duty bag (even though prices have gone up) and it sucks.
  4. No testing I'm sure, no descriptions, and no skin safety noted...PASS.
  5. Totally agree with this, however, I think Nodtveidt's experience may be due to location (PR)?
  6. Oh, my goodness, I totally agree with not writing Fragile! I actually pull the fragile stickers off any recycled boxes after noticing a few years ago that only the boxes with fragile stickers were damaged. USPS has lost 2 packages and damaged 1 just this year so far. As for deliveries, my mail carrier will absolutely not leave his truck. He drives up beside my carport and drops the boxes out of the window! While I've always had what I consider good service from Fed Ex, they have put me through 3 major screw-ups/damages in the last few months. Before that, I'd had 4 damages in 6 years of using them. I've never had an incoming damage with Fed Ex, but I did have one misdelivery that was resolved in 24 hours. UPS damaged 3 packages in the first 6 months that I used them. And for some reason, they can't deliver a case of wax intact. Every case I've gotten for the last year has been torn down the end and the harder waxes have chunks missing off the slabs that were lost out. Not to mention, it is absolutely filthy and extra work to strain out the trash. All carriers are about the same, some just give better service for some areas or at differing times. It seems to be ALOT worse lately.
  7. Yikes, back to the drawing board then. I need 6 sizes and all are from the custom list. None of their stock sizes will work for me...not even the larger variety available for the 810. I'm guessing this is probably how they make the most money. I almost ordered it this morning, glad I decided to do a little test with the post cards they sent during the last several months! The first one, I took a wet sponge and rubbed over it. It bubbled up and started rubbing off with a little pressure. The last one was the newest, received in Nov. or Dec. It didn't bubble up, but it did scratch off with a fingernail after getting wet. So, I decided to hold the order until next week, when I could talk to them about the coating or try new samples. Thanks for the info!
  8. Got it! Thanks again! At least all of my sizes (or close enough) are on the list...whew. Ok, so, are the only differences between the 400 and 810 the max label width and that the 400 only takes 1 color cartridge versus the 810 which takes a color and your choice of one of the 2 blacks?
  9. That would be awesome, thanks! Sending PM...
  10. I've had my eye on the 810 for a while now (and SLOWLY saving). I would need several label sizes and ALL of them custom so now I'm hesitant again. Do they have a list of the sizes you can order without a plate charge?
  11. My OOB impression... WSP's is more corn, less caramel than I recall of BBW's. It even seems to have that secret note that I pick up in the majority of BBW scents. Smells very strong, but haven't tested in soy, paraffin, or lotion yet. I love TCS the best now that Bubbles & Lights is gone, but alas, TCS isn't skin safe.
  12. Be glad you didn't brave tasting! The Toasted Coconut is HORRID...like getting a mouthful of perfume with only the slightest aftertaste hint of coconut...BLECH!
  13. I had one from The Scent Works that was totally crystallized for a couple inches at the bottom. It took lots of hot water changes and several hours of soaking/shaking violently/soaking/shaking violently but that finally worked. There is one tiny spot that never dissolved, but it has been several months and the others haven't reappeared. So don't give up hope, just keep the water hot and shake like crazy! Good luck!
  14. I am only a couple of states over, not across the country. I think I discovered at least part of the problem. In the past, I always ordered at least 4 gallons of oils. Now, the cart automatically goes to two boxes after 3 gallons which is ridiculous. If memory serves, the last box had plenty of room and everything was falling around inside the box because they never bother to add enough peanuts.
  15. Is it just me or is their shipping a bit inflated? I noticed their pricing has gone up, then the shopping cart calculated almost $30 for shipping on a 42 lb. order.
  16. You've also made an error in your cost calculation: Assuming 16 tarts in 16 zip baggies, the bag cost is $.32, not .02, raising your cost to $3.04 divided by 16 = $.19 Also, there is no allowance for labels for each tart, though I did see mention of a label costing only .01. I just can't believe the cost of label stock and ink averages only .01 per label. Even if that's possible, what happens when your costs for baggies and labels jumps tenfold or more when stock is gone? Definitely not thinking for the long haul here...
  17. Thanks, David! I, too, cater to our established customers. Just recently, we've issued credit to a long-time customer even though a damage claim was denied by the carrier and we just pulled a 3-nighter for a few-month-old customer who needed product by Wednesday. I think I'm not too concerned with loss of a customer who wouldn't even bother to contact me first before returning the order without a valid reason. I believe I'll draw her attention to the policies, product information she used to make her purchase, and offer to send it back at our expense. She did, however, pay with a credit card so we'll see. Thanks much!
  18. Love, love, love NG Orange Clove but it is clove-heavy. The Just by Nature one sounds really nice!
  19. How would you handle this? A new salon customer places an order for several bulk containers of a product. A month later, you receive the box back in the mail with a note that they are returning for credit because the product wasn't what they expected. They had a photo, as well as a complete detailed description of the product before ordering, and did not request a sample first. Our policy clearly states that bath and body products may not be returned unless we ship in error (and we do not even require return for those--our mistake, they keep the error) since we have no idea if someone sneezed in the product or touched inside the container with nasty hands. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  20. I've had that problem with Online Labels for over a year. One batch would print perfectly, the next a bleeding mess. They did tell me that the coating changed, but every time, they told me they had no problem with them so I'm glad to see someone else finally mention it...though I'm sorry you're in the same boat as me! I finally tried Elements and the first batch was great, but the second was nearly as bad as the ones from OL. Right now, I'm trying to save for the Primera printer, but haven't seen any feedback on it. I get a postcard from them every couple of months. But lookie at the price tag http://www.primera.com/LX810.html For twice the price, the Ultra water-resistant labels from Labels by the Sheet print great, are nice and white, and don't yellow like the others.
  21. I like the regular Sharpie silver markers, not the paint kind. I use them for everything from marking test jar notes like wax/wick/scent right on the jar as well as making notes on anything that can't be labeled right away. They show up no matter the color and are light enough that you don't "have" to wipe off, though I wipe my containers with alcohol during labeling and it comes right off.
  22. Arrrgghhh...my merchant account has the the same cancellation fee. When I signed up with them through a third party, I was told I could cancel anytime. When I got the massive contract, in tiny print, it says I can't cancel for 2 or 3 years or be charged $350.
  23. My friend received her order and they did lower the shipping to $13 and change. Still a bit high according to the UPS calc, but at least it is closer to actual charges and about the same as they've been charging for several months.
  24. Well, my friend received a shipping notice but no call or shipping quote! She's planning to call them when it arrives if the invoice doesn't reflect a drastic reduction in shipping. Graymaire, the site has said that for a few years about the shipping being "off" and they would correct it but they have not lowered my shipping a single time! It's easy peasy to go to UPS and calculate the shipping estimate. They've always had a handling fee (note the site says they charge actual shipping so that's a lie) but $3 (or more since I can't believe they wouldn't have daily pickup with an account) is a bit much. Grammafransfixins, your shipping might be closer to actual, but in my case it would be 6 lbs of FO, that's it, for $18+...maybe an 8 lb box for the same price as a 50 lb. case of wax from other suppliers. Jenny, I hope that's your name lol, they can't exactly ream you for shipping using your account. I'm glad for you! If I didn't have a hate-affair with UPS lately, I might consider that, but nuh-uh. So if they know the calculations are incorrect, and they aren't correcting them (don't know if this is a fact yet, just musing) what will that say about their business practices?
  25. My last order was a month or two ago for 4 lbs. and shipping was $12+. I put in the exact same order and shipping shows just over $18 for that, too. I ordered several pounds of FO and samples from JS and shipping from there was only $10 and change.
