  1. Thanks! Right now I have two different wick sizes. One is a 6"-51-32-18 Zinc. I have no idea what those numbers mean except that I know it's 6"s long. The other one is an 8" CD-12 and then it has a 20X6 on the package. Any ideas about these? I used the 6" one in a 16 oz container and the wick is drowning out. I remembered then that the man at Texas Candle Supply said this was a "standard" wick for 8 0z containers. I am burning a candle right now in a 10 ounce tin can and it seems to be doing fine with the same size wick although I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to be doing other than staying lit! LOL! Thanks for all of the help! Belinda
  2. I had it piled up pretty high but I didn't think that would be a problem since I've seen cupcake candles with the frosting higher than what I had mine. The wick might be to big. I don't really know what size wick I'm supposed to use but the one I used is a 6"-51-32-18 zinc wick. I have no idea what all of that means. I got them from Texas Candle Supply and the man told me this was a standard wick for 8 0z container candles. The tin can I poured is a ten ounce can so I didn't think it would be to big. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Belinda
  3. I made a candle in a can and whipped some of the wax to put on top. I used the same container wax (6006) that I had used for the candle. I lit it after about a week of curing and the whipped wax ran down the sides of the can. I had it higher than the can so I didn't know if that is why or if I used the wrong wax or if this was to be expected since it was higher than the can. Do any of you whip wax and make this sort of thing on top of candles and if so, what kind do you use and what do you think I may have done wrong? Thanks! Any and all feedback will be appreciated. I'm new at this so there's no telling what I did wrong! Belinda
  4. Congratulations! I know that must be a great feeling. Good for you! Your hard work has paid off. I hope I'm there some day too! Belinda
  5. Thanks for all the good information! I really get confused when I look at wicks but this helps a lot! Thanks again! Beinda
  6. These are the same ones I used when I poured wax into cups. I also used some that were black. I've been told that they are supposed to have a #2 on the bottom and some I bought did have that and some didn't. I bought from two suppliers though and Solo was one of the brands I got and the #2 that's on the bottom is very small. I bought some off of ebay and the #2 is large. I'm not sure if it matters. I couldn't tell a difference in how they performed. Hope this helps! Belinda
  7. I'm very new to tart/candle making, but have ordered from several suppliers. I guess most have good oils and also duds but I think I've had the best luck so far with the following. Indiana Candle Supplies-so far haven't got one from them that hasn't been good and strong. Natures Garden-most have been good with a few duds Cajun-have only ordered a few from them but so far only one that I didn't like The Candle Makers Store would be next. I like everything I've ordered from them so far, just haven't put that many in wax yet. I've ordered a lot of oils from Just Scent and love several of them that I have but have had several duds too. Right now I'm waiting on an order from Daystar and Candlewic I've ordered several from Fragrance Buddy and they have been a hit and a miss too. They have free shipping with a $50 order and I like that.
  8. Thank you for all the suggestions! I can't wait to get my order from Stacy. I found out today that her son goes to the school where I work and she will deliver my oils to me from now on! I'm so excited to have a place that has a good reputation and I don't have to pay shipping. Thanks again! All suggestions are appreciated! Belinda
  9. I just ordered that one and should get it in this week. I will let you know as soon as I can get it in wax.
  10. I ordered a couple of FO's from DayStar last week and when I got the invoice yesterday I couldn't believe their location. They are in Coldspring Texas, just right up the road from where I live! When I saw the name Stacy on the invoice I also realized I know some of her family members but not her personally. I'm so excited to be this close to a place that sells good oils. Well at least from what I have read on here they seem to be good ones. Since she's so close I can go pick them up without paying shipping so I will probably be ordering again. Are there any must haves from her? Thanks! Belinda
  11. I think I've been cheating myself because I've only been charging $1.00 per tart. When I was doing them in the cups I was charging $1.50 and they were 2 ounce cups.
  12. I like that one too! Now to decide which one to use! Thanks! Belinda
  13. I'm new to this craft also and from what I can gather OOB means "out of the bottle". I could be wrong but I think that's what is meant. Hope this helps! Belinda
  14. Those all sound good! I've been wanting to try a cider scent so maybe when it gets closer to Fall I'll give theirs a whirl. I really like a strong fragrance too! Now I know they will be the ones to get it from! Thanks!
  15. Oh thanks to all of you! I like all of those. I think I might try vanilla biscotti or frosted cookie! Thanks again! Belinda
  16. Any suggestions on what I could call Mrs. Claus Cookies? I personally don't think it's just a Christmas scent but I don't know if anyone would want to buy it this time of year with that name and I love it so much I want to offer it all year. I was thinking of something like Vanilla Sugar Cookie or something like that but am open for better suggestions! Thanks! Belinda
  17. Thanks Dave! I always enjoy reading your posts and learning from you and everyone else on here. I just started making tarts last September and wished I had found this forum before buying from certain companies or certain fragrance oils. I've become addicted to buying them like a lot of people! ) I guess I'll stay clear of Candle Chem for FO's unless like you said I just need a small amount of something. I have actually bought four from them over the months. I have orange cupcake (I love it but it seems light to me) oatmeal raisin cookie which smells okay but nothing to ever make me want to buy it again, cozy christmas, which smells good but haven't used it and then I bought a bottle of cherry cobbler off of their ebay store and it smells good OOB so I thought I would try a few more. I went to their website and they have a lot of oils to choose from and but I wanted to see what people on here thought before I took a chance to use anymore of their stuff. Thank you again for taking the time to give me your experience with them. I really appreciate it! Belinda
  18. I was just wondering if anyone orders from Candle Chem. I see a lot of posts about Peak, Natures Gardens, Cajun etc but not much on Candle Chem. I was on their website and they have a lot to choose from but don't want to chance them if they don't have good reviews. Thanks!
  19. Thanks for all of your help! I have really enjoyed learning from everyone on here.
  20. I'm about to place an order from candlewic. Any suggestions on FO's? Thanks!
  21. Oh thanks! That makes sense to me now. I've been trying to figure that one out for months! LOL! I had no clue what "wick up" or "wicker upper" meant.
  22. Hi, I'm new to making candles (in fact I've only made one so far!) but I've been making tarts since about last September. I want to pour some candles also and have a question about wicks. I don't really know much about which one to use. I have 6006 wax and was wanting to pour into 8oz and 16oz mason jars and tin cans and decorate with a label and homespun. Which wick would you all recommend? I have read the phrase "wicker upper" and "wick up" and I have no idea what that means. Thanks to everyone for their input! I've been reading posts on this board for weeks and have gained so much from everyone's knowledge! I also enjoy reading your posts! Thanks again, Belinda
