coconut
I have a piece of metal wall art with fish on it that I want to use to stage a house with. It has a lot of rusted areas. I would like opinions. Spiff it and repaint it, or leave it rusty and clear coat it? What is popular now? I am out of touch. Is shabby chic in or out? Thanks for all input. Trappeur
I love rusty too....but it depends too on the look you have going on in the house and color scheme. Can you give further details on the house? Trappeur
Daisymay66
My vote is rusty too
coconut
Thank you, everyone. It is a beachy theme with pastels, walls are light green.
kandlekrazy
oh yeah, rust looks great with beachy, so does shabby tho.
coconut
I'm thinking that we will brush off the loose paint and rust and then perhaps spray it with a clear coat. Since this will hang on a wall in the living room, I wouldn't want rust and paint flaking off on the wall and floor. What do you think? Candybee
Oh definitely the rust look. Sounds great. Wish you had a pic!!
Vicky_CO
I think taking a metal brush to it would be good idea see if you can find a sealer that does not give the shine of a clear coat.
deisel
how about a clear matte spray coat? or a light brush of (choice of color) chalk paint right over the rusty finish? kris
coconut
Turns out hubby has already brushed off the loose stuff, so we are leaving it plain for now.
Trappeur
Love love it Coconut! Very unusual, very different! Wonderful piece! If I can make a suggestion.......it's probably already too late...but I'll suggest it. The piece would look in better proportion on your wall if it was on a much bigger wall....maybe over your sofa so it doesn't look cramped running into the corner of the 2 walls and right up to the edge of the door opening. Is that the living room? And I would lower that piece definitely also so it is not at the height of the door opening at the top. I'm thinking just by looking at the picture maybe 5 or 6" Great ! coconut
Hi Trappeur, I appreciate the input. I wish I had a bigger wall as I agree it would look better in proportion. It is a very small house. We are trying to stage it with as little expense as possible and this was a found piece. I suppose we could cut it down, but I hate to do that. We still have time before we put the house up for sale. We'll see if we find any other art to use.
barbaranj
Perhaps hang it vertically?
