Grumpy Girl Posted November 12, 2005 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Okay, so I have molds, wicks, wax... everything I need, but unfortunately the wick pins won't be in for another week and I want to make these now. I thought I remembered seeing a post about using the straight wire from a coat hanger, cut into sections... was I dreaming? What's the best way to do this without wick pins?--------------------------** Added photos to make my post worthy even though I think they suck. SatinDucky Posted November 12, 2005 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Using straight wire in votives may be hard. You can always wick it right after you pour. Not as easy as wick pins, but it works. I used to set the wick in the empty mold and use rubberbanded skewers or popsickle sticks to hold the wick up while the wax cools and shrinks. Watch the tab, if it starts to shift, let the bottom film over and poke it back in place. It should stay. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They're close enough that no one makes comments about the wicks not being perfectly centered. I do want to try those wick pins, though. sudsnwicks Posted November 12, 2005 Share Posted November 12, 2005 You can just put them in manually as the wax starts to congeal; as long as they look centered to the naked eye, it's centered enough. If you haven't tried this before it's helpful to use a lighter rather than darker color, so that you can see what you're doing clearly. I'll give attatching them in the warm wax a shot. I tried this several weeks ago with tealights and was annoyed with having to fuss with the wicks too much.
