Jamers
I've looked and looked, and am having a hard time finding a glass candle container that is 9-1/8" tall with a 2-3/4" diameter. Anyone have some great ideas of where I could find this odd sized container? Thanks for any ideas!
CWave
Have you checked Walmart, in the crafts section? Lots of times you'll find glass containers this size.
R.S.
Have you made something like this before? Just curious how someone would light the candle as it got close to the bottom of the jar? I like the concept but unsure of it's practicality. How would the flame perform towards the end of the candle?
TxSioux
Wow -- this turned out to be a tough item to find, even though I know I've seen them. I always associate these containers w/ Prayer Candles & have never understood how they can burn clean -- just not enough air flow as it burns to the bottom. I found them on a couple sites & they're not cheap ... but here's the best price I found: http://www.candle4less.com/Clear-glass-container-candle.pr.708.htmHTH -- Susan. realmarcha
You can try the following company, but you will need a Sales Tax ID # to order from them.www.marckassoc.comTheir site is something to be desired, and it is not an ordering site. You will have to call, and request a catalog, which is online. Once you give them all the information they need, they will email you a User Name, and Password, for the products they carry and the pricing. kandlekrazy
Gen Wax has one that is 8" tall, I think the diam is close to what you listed. I've bought them before but don't have any right now to check. They are fairly inexpensive, like under .75 each.
HeavenScentU
How do those burn when they get down to the bottom? They are nice though.
kandlekrazy
These are typically used in churches for prayer candles, so they are not really meant to have scent in them and that's how I made them - no scent. They burn fine all the way down. Very little soot, if any.
Violetsexoticcandles
How would you wick something that tall? Most wicks I have are only 7" long...
Jamers
I'm going to try and answer everyone's posts right here. Thanks for the replies and the help. So, here it goes..... CWave-I have checked in the crafts section in WalMart, and was unable to find anything that size. R.S.-I actually have already tested this size, and it worked just fine. I'm not making a bunch of candles this size....this is just a one time thing. I used one of those long lighters, and it worked great for lighting that size of a container. As far as the size of the flame towards the end of the candle, it still burned just fine. TxSioux-Thanks for doing that footwork for me. I did go to that website, but the size wasn't quite right. I need the container to be 9-1/8" high, as it will have something wrapped around it, and that's the only size that will work. realmarcha-Thanks for looking into this. I still need to check out this website. I appreciate it, though. kandlekrazy-Thanks for the information. As I told TxSioux, the container does need to be 9-1/8" tall. The person that I'm doing it for wanted a cinnamon scent, so that is what I tested, and it burned good. Violetsexoticcandles-I was wondering about the wick thing myself in the beginning. I ended up getting some raw wick from Peaks. I tested and found that the 60-44-18-Z (Zinc core) worked good for this size of candle, with the GW444 soy wax, with the cinnamon FO, and without the container getting too hot as it burned further down.There....I hope my answers were clear. Basically, I had a little mishap.....I was all done testing the candle container, was getting ready to clean it out for the "real" pour, and in the meantime it got broken. This is exactly about what I did! It was a matching set of candle containers that I've spent hours online trying to find another set just like it....to no avail. The only "upside" is that these containers have a scene wrapped around them, that I think I could take the wrap off the broken one and put it on a new container. I know you're probably wondering, "Why all of the trouble?" Well,...these containers belong to somebody else. The other part of that is....they were handed down to them from their Grandmother! All I can say is that there has been a lot of stress involved! Thanks for all of your help!!
TxSioux
Geez -- I feel sorry for the stress you're going through. Is there any chance you're in Tx? I've seen some at HEB w/ wraps, so those might be the same size. You might try calling some of the suppliers that have the 8.5' h to see if they can check their sources for the specific size you need. You may also check Hotel/Restaurant Suppliers. Good luck, I feel for you!Susan.
kandlekrazy
You're probably sick of looking, but you can usually find them under Sanctuary candles or Vigil Candles. There are many who sell them under Church Supplies (so you can look there as well.) I did some volunteer work at a Catholic church and you may even be able to call some local churches and see if you can buy one from them. In looking around the web, they do make a 9 1/4" which is most likely what the one you have is (you know how the measurements are never exactly what they really are!) They had crosses etched in the glass. I just did a Yahoo search on Sanctuary Candles.
