BrySC
Yes Scented...another "M". With the brown one, I wasn't trying to get the freckled look...but I like it. I just wasn't going for that look.
celicagtca
Looks really good. I dare you to try that again on the brown and see if you get it.
BrySC
LOL Yeah, if I could do that consistently, I could sell them. Sure wish I knew what caused it.
Candle Man
LOL Yeah, if I could do that consistently, I could sell them. Sure wish I knew what caused it.Could we have a close-up of the brown to see if we can figure it out? From that pic it looks like a mottle. BrySC
Here's a closeup. Doesn't really look like a mottle to me.
Candle Man
Could that be air bubbles? Have you tried to poke those spots to see? What temp did you pour at?Was the mold heated? What was the room temp?Did you pour slow or fast?Did you add additives? MasterBaker2
Definitely a fan of the one on the right. At first glance it looked like a coffee bean candle. :highfive:
BrySC
Candle...they're definitely not bubles. Can't poke them at all. And I poured at about 185 degrees...did not heat the mold...room temp was probably 70 degrees or so...and I poured at a medium speed...and besides dye and scent, I used 1 tbs of stearic acid, and 1 tsp of vybar. Strange, huh? I think I'm going to try the EXACT same recipe tomorrow, and see if I get the same results.MasterBaker...it's not coffee bean, but I did use "hot coffee" scent. LOVE the smell of it. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I sure do like the smell of coffee.

topofmurrayhill
That's a type of fingernailing. Freaky.I once had a slab of wax that would only fingernail in various ways instead of mottling and I've seen patterns similar to that.
Donita
Top...that's the first thing I thought of too.....little tiny fingers inside the candle scratching to get out.....lol....Donita
Scented
LOL that one isn't so mm-y but I'm watching for the actual golden arches You're doing nicely on the draped layers. Gotta agree that the brown is finger nailing and I tend to find that 1343 is good at fingernailing when 1) too much vybar; 2) the slightest hint of UA. I've not tried a mix of steric and vybar in the wax. Someone once convinced me it was a waste and said use UA instead And I don't use the UA because I'm not a fingernail fan. Those were just my experiences with those additives and that wax. I think you could get that effect again though, but plan it. Like crumble a bunch of wax those colors that would fill your mold and try pouring a clear filling. There might be another way, but I need to try it out before saying more. When you burn that candle, you may hear some hissing sounds and that's just the release of the trapped air in those fingernail features. Mtngrl
That's a type of fingernailing, really? I love the unusual & unexpected look. I'd like to know if you get that appearance again when you try it on purpose.
BrySC
Mtn...I'm going to try to MAKE it happen this time, instead of it happening by accident. I'll let y'all know what the result is.
